I've heard rumours that Patrick Cripps is getting pretty tired of missing out on competing in the finals every year and will go back home to WA should the Blues miss the 8 in 2021. We know Cripps will become a free agent next year so that obviously intensifies this rumour.

How would WC afford him?

Kennedy and hurn retiring next year.

Trade out someone on average salary. There is 900k min right there.

Of course Carlton will threaten to match. But another pick in top 10 is just too tempting.

Then to soften blow to fans, Carlton will overpay for some GWS player to come and play for them.

Love when fans assume money at clubs. Eagles affording Cripps will be very difficult. Carlton will match regardless, and will likely have more money to use.

Duggan Sheed Brander Rotham Redden all out of contract after 21 too. I’d be assuming Duggan will be commanding a fair pay rise

It's the picks/players they wouldn't be able to afford to get the deal done.

The only way that Carlton won't be able to match an offer is if one of the WA teams chopped it's salary books to free up $3,000,000 to $4,000,000 over 2022 and 2023 and they lodge the paperwork to secure Cripps as a free agent on a two year minimum contract.

That club could sign him to a five year extension at the end of the first season but that salary will be allocated to 2022 and 2023 regardless.

As soon as a contract gets longer than two seasons most clubs have most of their salary cap free beyond that.

he'd do a Danger and say to be fair on Carlton that he wants to be traded and not taken as a free agent.
Dangerfield didn't do that. He said he was going home for under market value and Adelaide said they will match any offer anyway.

Fair enough too.

It’s on Carlton to show him there’s something worth sticking round for.
He’s probably got 3 good years left (think he will play longer), before his body starts to give. 2020 showed how he’s getting banged up without support.

Don’t think Carlton supporters would begrudge him leaving if he chooses to do so.

Lol . If anything Cripps would go to Freo, he wants nothing to do with a drug fulled culture of bozo slackers like the Eagles.

Fremantle are more likely to get Patrick Cripps than West Coast given the Dockers have a lot more cap space and more upside to come. Having said that, I think Cripps will end up signing a long-term extension with Carlton.

Apparently he wants to leave Carlton because Nick Stevens played for them and the mid-00s teams have so much relevance to today

Dont know about a long term extension, but I cam see something in the vicinity of 2-3 years.

Our list is ready for a push into finals and two years would take him to UFA where he could pick and choose where he goes for whatever money if the results arent there.

Im hoping our midfield shapes up like this next season

Centreline: Williams-Cripps-SPS
Followers: Dekoning-Setterfield-Walsh

Thats a good mix of inside grunt, outside speed and polish, with an emerging high-quality, mobile ruck.

Good spine overall with Jones, Weitering, and McKay rounding it out even with Curnow injured for an as yet unknown length of time.

Saad and Doc are high-quality back pockets/flankers. Martin a high-quality half forward flanker and Betts moving into a more "pressure forward"/mentor role.

This list is ready for finals. If we cant make a compelling case for finals we dont really have a right to keep Cripps. He does strike me as the loyal type though. Similar to Pavlich in some ways.
