Dangerfield's rating as a player seems to have increased tenfold since he moved back to Victoria, both in the media and among footy fans in general. When he was a Crow he was generally rated a tier below the game's absolute best players, now he is rated as the best player in the AFL by many.

Pendlebury on the other hand has fallen off the radar since Collingwood's decline, up until recently he was rated as one of if not the best player in the AFL, now he isn't spoken about as much when Brownlow discussions arise.

Who do you think is the better player and why?

I'd trust Pendles with the ball in hand more than Danger. Both have their qualities though.

Pendles was playing with an injury last year so while he was still excellent I think he will go even better this year.

2010 maybe not but he was easily in the top 5.

2011 he was top 3 along with Chris Judd and Dane Swan.

2012 he was arguably second best if not best in the comp prior to his leg injury mid season.

2013 he was 4th behind Ablett, Selwood and Swan.

2014 and 2015 he's slipped a little but still in the top 10 easily in both years.

Pendelbury greater class and disposal. Danger a beast at contested possession. Depends on what each team needs most. Prefer danger if I had to pick as winning contested ball never looses it importance

Pendlebury just came 4th in the AFLPA Top 50 this week, a whopping one spot below Dangerfield.

He's hardly fallen off the radar as the OP suggests.

He's maybe thought of as less of an impact player than guys like Danger, Ablett or Fyfe so in terms of Brownlow markets or best player lists he may not fair as well but doubt there's too many who don't rate him top 5 or top 10 at least.

According to Champion Data the top 5 in 2015 were:

1. Danger
2. Gray
3. Pendlebury
4. Goldstein
5. Fyfe

Personally I don't concern myself too much with an algorithm, and believe that Fyfe was the best player last year.

Also think that Pendlebury has done more over his career to be considered ahead of Dangerfield, especially when including leadership qualities etc. In saying that, Dangerfield looks in even better physical condition following this pre season, and appears set to tear this season a new one.

Currently, Danger. Pendles 2015 was pretty average. You can't hold down class disposal though and I'm sure he'll be back to his best. If Danger had Pendles disposal he would be the best player in the comp.

Depends what you are after, danger definetly is the best contested ball winner in he comp, but lacks skills compared to pendelbury who's skills and vision is up there as the best in the comp. Unusual in the fact Collingwoo could do with a Danger to go wih Pendle's the combination would be outstanding and Geelong could do with Pendles to go with Selwood for the same reason, Selwood lacks the skilll of a Pendlebury aswell.

Going on predictions for teams this year, you would say Dangerfield is a far superior player than Ablett JNR and Fyfe combined, the AFC have lost such a legend of a player who could be rated the best ever AFL player as we are dropping from 6th to 14th this year because of the loss of such an outstanding talent. Forget Carey PD is not only taking us down to the bottom 4 he is bringing Geelong into premiership contention from outside the 8. The guy is a freak, I bet Leigh Matthews wished he could have such an impact on a club when he played!

Pendles is still as good as ever he destroyed Hawthorn last year, there just was not enough quality around him for us to get the win

They're both guns, obviously, but I feel like Pendlebury might "age" better than Dangerfield if that makes sense.

Pendles seems like a mid in the style of Sam Mitchell (in terms of potential longevity), awesome in traffic, great spacial awareness and generally an excellent decision maker whereas Danger relies on his explosive speed to break away from packs. Once he loses a yard or two as he gets older it makes me wonder whether he'll be as effective.
