Duh really?
He's a FREE AGENT UNTIL/IF Crows match.
What if they don't?
What if Cats offer something Crows can't match?
Think about it.
Delusional. The Crows are obviously happy for Paddy to go to Geelong if a trade is brokered. Geelong would only shoot themselves in the foot if they offered a Franklin like deal. Rest assured that the Crows and Geelong are well down the track to try and broker a deal. It will involve draft picks and a player. You may even find that the AFL have already been asked about them being happy to ratify a trade without the Crows even having to match. Geelong know what they are getting and will pay a reasonable price, despite many of their fans thinking that Paddy will walk there free.

the system is flawed...

geelong got screwed when gaz left
hawks got screwed when buddy left
crows will get screwed here if they arent careful....

all 3 deserved 2 top 10 picks in my view....but you have to take what you can get and move on....

true FA and the clubs would receive no compo at all.....so i guess its better than nothing
True restricted free agency and ade would match 5 years and keep him.

I lose respect for any player who requests a club. I think players should only be able to request states. If Dangerfield cared abotu Adelaide he'd enable them to benefit from a bidding war from every Victorian club.

Adelaide simply have to match in my opinion. Neither Fagan or Ricciuto are pushovers and I can't see either of them bending over and losing their best player for a laughable pick (relative to his worth).

To try and compare apples with apples, if my club let Wingard walk out as an RFA and meekly accepted Band 1 compensation I would be gathering every Port supporter I know and heading to Alberton with torches and pitchforks in hand.

Hmmmm. Turns out PD going to the Cats is not a suprise, but for me, 800k a year is.

Really makes it an interesting call. If he really wanted to go to Geelong for family reasons, could they not of dodged the grandaddy offer?

Not sure a club who has just missed finals, has just moved on a lot of old stars and are clearly in a bit of a mini rebuild period for the next couple of years should be piling 800k on one player...

Good luck to them though, prefer it when the Cats are competitive, the two meetings this year were fun, but didnt quite have the clout of years gone by.
what do people think Selwood is on?
Hawkins?

and if they land Henderson, what will he want?....

For those punching cockatoo into their keyboards the kid is every chance to be as good as PD. He's not going anywhere anytime soon..
Why are Geelong fans acting like the victims here? You're going to have to give up more than Horlin-Smith and a 1st rounder. Horlin-Smith is a mediocre player, pick 11 (as it will probably turn out to be) is a mediocre pick. Cockatoo is a starting point. Let's face it, aside from Guthrie, the rest of your youth looks fairly run of the mill. You might be able to polish up a turd like Josh Walker and sell it for Lachie Henderson, but unlike Carlton, the Crows are acutely aware of Dangerfields value to their club. And it ain't just on field.

You Adelaide supporters need to be realistic. Why would Geelong trade things of value when they don't have to? We might be good to deal with at the trade table because we don't grandstand for no reason but we're not a charity case. Basically our choice is to give up 2 first rounders for Dangerfield or give up 2 first rounders for other good quality players and get Dangerfield for free. It's not hard to work out what Geelong is better of doing.
If the adelaide crows are happy and aware that the worst case scenario is for danger to end up at Carlton in pre season draft and can deal with that as a possible consequence of matching then I think we will match

It then comes down to telling Geelong in good faith that we will match and if they want Dangerfield they make sure they have some currency to trade with us (eg 1st round picks and players or combo of both) and don't use it during the trade period.

Failing this they lose chance to acquire Dangerfield and he likely ends up at Carlton , I would say a very big missed opportunity for Geelong and a smaller missed opportunity for adelaide to acquire pick 15 compo

I agree with you.

I don't think us Cats supporters think he'll walk free, the media has been behind that rumour. I think most rational Cats supporters agree that we will do a decent trade with Adelaide. Geelong are not likely to cheat Adelaide out of anything, they don't roll like that. Our club has never been like that. In fact, most of the time we're too soft when it comes to trading players. It's something that frustrates some.

Geelong is an average destination if he wants success. They'll be forced to overpay thus weakening their list moving forward. Seems like a lose-lose-lose scenario for all three parties. Oh well, he obviously wants to come home.
They really won't. Alot of people are acting like the Geelong administration are idiots, which they clearly aren't. They will offer a decent reasonable trade to Adelaide; they aren't going to gut their list trying to get him there like Sydney did with Franklin. Thats not how they operate, thats not how they ever operate. It would be amazing if Dangerfield were there next year, but at the same time, Geelong don't lose anything here; they never had Danger to start off with, and if they don't get him, they will continue about their business. 800k a year is an example of how the Cats don't bend over backwards for one player as Danger could easily easily get more elsewhere if he wanted.

Prob makes sense for geelong to agree to a veale deal

Eg do a handshake and let adelaide receice a FA comp from afl (pick 14 or watever it is), and then trade them 9 for like someone old like van berlo or something.

Both geelong and adelaide win

Adelaide get 9, 14
Geelong lose only 9

I suppose PD is going to Richmond with Treloar and Motlop after all.

I enjoy Geelong fans knocking down trade suggestions (like a first rounder and Horlin-Smith, who is average anyway) because they "won't be paying overs". Err, for a player like Dangerfield, Duncan + first rounder isn't overs. You're still getting an absolute steal.
