its amazing when you look at the age and inexperience of our list to think how quickly we will climb back up, with key players in the next few years to hit 23-26 years of age, + add in henderson dangerfield and S selwood, we will be right up there. exciting times for geelong! shit never tasted so good like you say
Dreaming.

Adelaide statement is cautious: "we will be considering our options....we will do whatever we deem best for the club".

Given most clubs lead out hard with their most aggressive position, the fact they aren't saying "We will definitely match, no option but a trade, don't even THINK of looking at Dangerfield unless you are going to trade" is interesting...
They also said the following:

"Patrick Dangerfield has informed the Club he wants to return to Victoria."

Interesting.. As a restricted free agent he is obviously entitled to nominate a specific club if he chooses, and I think we all expected him to say Geelong.

I still anticipate that's where he'll end up, but by leaving it ambiguous like that (as opposed to saying "It's Geelong or nothing") he's left the door open for the Crows to explore their "options" and maximize their return while still doing the right thing by Patrick and allowing he and his partner the opportunity to return to Melbourne/Geelong to be closer to their families - of course that's only if Geelong try to be clever and refuse to offer fair value for him.

As I said, I doubt that scenario will eventuate and I'm sure a deal will be struck that allows him to join the Cats. It's not often a player of Dangerfield's calibre comes on the market, and even rarer still for a player like that to nominate your club as their desired destination. Geelong are a well run club, and fortunately for them there's no chance that they'll follow the fanciful advice being offered by a few of their supporters and risk cocking up this once in a generation opportunity.

They'll also have additional targets of their own that they'll want to pursue outside of Dangerfield so I'm sure if they haven't already, the 2 clubs will come to an agreement that is fair and reasonable for both sides well before trade week commences.

The Crows come out of this ok if they can nab the Cats first rounder and a player. Ultimately they know they won't get full value but as long as they get better than what the AFL compensation was going to be.

Ok Marty.
While you were in the future did you happen to grab this weeks lotto numbers as well?

And I see you've abated to just 2 x Rd1 now…. no player as well? Must be reality setting in.

Seeing as you're saying the Crows won't match,
While you were in the future did you happen to grab this weeks lotto numbers as well?

Besides, I was never in the two first rounders and a player camp, although a bonus player like Murdoch would be nice.

Either way, 2 first rounders means we get more than AFL compo plus it means you have to give up two good picks. Fair for everyone!

look at the age of your team moving forward to 2016 and beyond, heavy reliance on 30+ year olds to deliver all the goods. i would be geelong any day over hawthorn moving into the next five years. hawthorn have some very hard times coming up once lake gibson hodge mitchel burgoyne leave

Adelaide are kidding themselves if they think they'll get any better than the compensation pick. Perhaps Geelong will offer one draft pick, perhaps even their first, but I can't see them doing any trades to get in any other high picks.

Asking for Geelong's pick instead of the compensation pick is basically punishing Geelong for the sake of a pick a few spots higher in the order.

Hawthorn and Geelong lost a player each who was probably in the top 3 players in the league at the time they moved, and received a pick at the end of round 1. Adelaide will get the same.

So the median player wage is probably around $230-$240 per year, I wonder what the median job length is. It's a pretty average career path for most. (with the exception of guys like Dangerfield)

We keep our cards close to our chest, and if we were as shit as Geelong where this year then our kids would look just as good if not better than yours. Ours don't play, yours do, that's the difference, not the talent. We are like thiefs in the night, we have a few scalps to claim and everyone will have to re-think the Hawthorn decline for a little longer.

But you said no trade for months?
depends on what is going on behind scenes, i was talking in the event it goes to the trade table, two first rounders will be fair. if geelong and his management really want to avoid a trade and get him to geelong they will. the point is adelaide dont have the power to force anything, if dangerfield and his management want to take the draft then adelaide recieve nothing. he can get to geelong one way or another despite what adelaide wants, adelaide has no say or power to demand anything, because at the end of it, they either take what is offered or he goes for nothing.

we will have to wait and see marty, wouldnt put it past for a luke ball kurt tippet scenario either if adelaide tries to ask for alot

I agree with you.

I don't think us Cats supporters think he'll walk free, the media has been behind that rumour. I think most rational Cats supporters agree that we will do a decent trade with Adelaide. Geelong are not likely to cheat Adelaide out of anything, they don't roll like that. Our club has never been like that. In fact, most of the time we're too soft when it comes to trading players. It's something that frustrates some.

You are joking arent you Ive been arguing for months about a trade with you whole BF supporter base

lol you keep what cards close to your chest? i am sorry but let me give you the reality version of this. hawthorn dont have exciting young players, the VFL players you have are not good at all, your senior side young players are some of the worst in the AFL, your side is carried by 30+ year olds still performing to high standards, this will drop off the map quickly, they are ticking clocks. please dont bother trying to compare Geelongs next few years with a side fully dependent on 30+ year olds.

Just a logiical one, unlike the Geelong Dangerfield thread where every man and hius dog was having a circle jerk of grabbing him for nothing
could very much happen, it all depends on his management and the geelong football clubs approach, it isnt in adelaides hands, their balls are tied up, all they can do is match and hope for the best across the table, at the end of the day adelaide asks for too much, he walks to the draft. depends how reasonable adelaide are prepared to be
