look at the age of your team moving forward to 2016 and beyond, heavy reliance on 30+ year olds to deliver all the goods. i would be geelong any day over hawthorn moving into the next five years. hawthorn have some very hard times coming up once lake gibson hodge mitchel burgoyne leave
Unless we can replace them with free agents the same way you are replacing your outgoing stars.

its amazing when you look at the age and inexperience of our list to think how quickly we will climb back up, with key players in the next few years to hit 23-26 years of age, + add in henderson dangerfield and S selwood, we will be right up there. exciting times for geelong! shit never tasted so good like you say

lol you keep what cards close to your chest? i am sorry but let me give you the reality version of this. hawthorn dont have exciting young players, the VFL players you have are not good at all, your senior side young players are some of the worst in the AFL, your side is carried by 30+ year olds still performing to high standards, this will drop off the map quickly, they are ticking clocks. please dont bother trying to compare Geelongs next few years with a side fully dependent on 30+ year olds.
Not sure who you are talking about here?

our players leaving are well past their prime, we lost their influence years ago, people seem to forget that, yours are still holding your side up, once they go or start declining its goodnight hawthorn.

and good luck relying on poaching AA midfielders to remain a top club, i like those odds

could very much happen, it all depends on his management and the geelong football clubs approach, it isnt in adelaides hands, their balls are tied up, all they can do is match and hope for the best across the table, at the end of the day adelaide asks for too much, he walks to the draft. depends how reasonable adelaide are prepared to be

So it depends on whether or not Adelaide matches if you grab hinm for free and he walks to the PSD and not Moggs Creek, and your saying Adelaides hands are tied YEP. OK THEN so be it bring it on

Once the match is done, its juts like a trade before there was FA. Its not like Adelaide are going to take 9 because its better than 15. If there wasn't FA that would be laughed at.

the onus is on Geelong, you don't want to be chasing players of this calibre and then not following through. It makes it very hard to get any quality player from then on.

Pfft let's see how nervous Danger gets with trade week coming to a close. There he no way he will risk going to melbourne or carlton when he is so set on going home.

Noticed this in the Crows statement earlier today:

"Patrick Dangerfield has informed the Club he wants to return to Victoria."

Interesting.. As a restricted free agent he is obviously entitled to nominate a specific club if he chooses, and I think we all expected him to say Geelong.

I still anticipate that's where he'll end up, but by leaving it ambiguous like that (as opposed to saying "It's Geelong or nothing") he's left the door open for the Crows to explore their "options" and maximize their return while still doing the right thing by Patrick and allowing he and his partner the opportunity to return to Melbourne/Geelong to be closer to their families - of course that's only if Geelong try to be clever and refuse to offer fair value for him.

As I said, I doubt that scenario will eventuate and I'm sure a deal will be struck that allows him to join the Cats. It's not often a player of Dangerfield's calibre comes on the market, and even rarer still for a player like that to nominate your club as their desired destination. Geelong are a well run club, and fortunately for them there's no chance that they'll follow the fanciful advice being offered by a few of their supporters and risk cocking up this once in a generation opportunity.

They'll also have additional targets of their own that they'll want to pursue outside of Dangerfield so I'm sure if they haven't already, the 2 clubs will come to an agreement that is fair and reasonable for both sides well before trade week commences.

God I hope he goes to Hawthorn.
its filled with 20-23 year olds transitioning towards their prime, pretty damn good effort, hardly had any reliance on seniors at all this year.

very exciting period the next 2-3 years. a midfield of J selwood, P dangerfield, J caddy, J murdoch, M blicavs S selwood sounds better than anything adelaide is going to put forward. will smash it in contested ball work

geelong for top four push next season

And Hawks have been very good at doing this. But guys like Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne and even Lewis are a bit like Stevie J, Matty Scarlett & Jimmy Bartel - generational players who are not easily replaced

No coincidence that Selwood, Hawkins & Taylor had average years and you missed the 8.

nobody is going to touch a player for 800k a season who tells them he doesnt want to play at their football club. same reason Ball didnt get drafted before collingood, and either did tippet.

clubs are very careful about the attitude and commitment of those players drafted, just like any organisation is about who they recruit.

go ask GWS about this also with why they didnt draft chad wingard besides wanting to, or read the article about why adelaide drafted dangerfield instead of rioli who was their priority at the time.

Box Hill havent played in the last 2 vfl grand finals? They didn't beat Geelong in one of them? Not to mention a third consecutive GF appearance coming up this weekend.

The hawks have to drop off eventually, but they are far better placed than your mob, and I predict them to complete the 3peat and completely overshadow Geelong's recent success.

Geelong wont finish above the Hawks for quite a few years.

Once again, god I hope Danger goes to the Hawks.
