A good benchmark would be the Judd WC trade.

What was that 3, 20 and Kennedy.
I think 3 was Masten, not sure who 20 was.

That is essentially 3 top 20 picks.

Round 1- 2015, round 2 - 2015(or a player like Cockatoo), round 1 - 2016
carlton had picks 1 and 3 and refused to give up pick 1 for what was considered the Garry ablett of the AFL at the time, the biggest thing since carey or hird, he was another level at that time to dangerfield, this sort of trade is reserved for the sort of value ablett or carey in his prime would demand, dangerfield isnt in that bracket for a trade like this

You are joking arent you Ive been arguing for months about a trade with you whole BF supporter base
Oh you do exaggerate. I've never argued with you, so it can't be the whole supporter base. I know it's a difficult time seeing a great leave your club to play for another. On that score, I know how you feel. Don't let the trolls get to you, life's way too short.

800K for 6 years is a bit steep, particularly if Geelong are going to have to trade as well.
There is a trade-off here. If Geelong offer Dangerfield a reasonable figure Adelaide will certainly match it, forcing Geelong to trade with Adelaide. Adelaide get a better outcome if they match Geelong's offer. So to make it work so that Adelaide do not match the offer Geelong would have to offer a huge amount, which would get Geelong into salary cap trouble. So if Geelong offer a reasonable amount only, Adelaide will surely match it, so Geelong will have to trade. This will put downward pressure on what Geelong can afford to offer (considering that they will have to trade as well), making it all the more certain that Adelaide will be able to match Geelong's offer.

you mean the john mccarthy delisted by collingwood? i am sure he was very fussy and picky. nick stevens is the only example in the AFL, and i dont see articles of him or his management telling carlton he didnt want to play for them, their is only an article afterwards with him saying he knew he was going to carlton all along, he wasnt rejecting the idea at all.

when players have told clubs they dont want to play for them, they dont wind up their, its been as simple as that, if they dont say that, well then you may get another nick stevens.

it all goes back to dangerfields management and the geelong football club and what they do. adelaides balls are simply tied, they just have to accept what is offered or get nothing, regardless of where he ends up at the end of it.
McCarthy already had a contract on the table with another club before he was snapped up. Same with Nick Stevens.

Geelong will have to play ball. No such thing as a free lunch.

Box Hill havent played in the last 2 vfl grand finals? They didn't beat Geelong in one of them? Not to mention a third consecutive GF appearance coming up this weekend.

The hawks have to drop off eventually, but they are far better placed than your mob, and I predict them to complete the 3peat and completely overshadow Geelong's recent success.

Geelong wont finish above the Hawks for quite a few years.

Once again, god I hope Danger goes to the Hawks.
their reserves have done well because they are filled with senior bodied top up players who have them up their, not because of good young players.
you will drop off very suddenly. there is not a single thing to suggest hawthorn will be around in 2-3 years time, your key players are a shocking age of 30+, it will be goodnight once they go

I love all this BS about kitchen sinks and all that crap, the Cats got absolutely rogered when they lost the BEST player in the league a few years ago and now people are whinging they're getting a top 5 player back? Huh? A deal will be struck, Adelaide have nothing to complain about, this bloke has conducted himself exceptionally well throughout this year and has probably played the best footy of his career during very trying times. Geelong won't be giving up an arm and a leg here, but i have no issue with them giving up pick 9 in the deal if need be. Geelong must have known what was happening a long time ago and i'm sure the wheels have been in motion for some time behind the scenes.

We are still far better off having you guys not match and conduct a shuffle of picks like we did last year. No reason to let that compo pick disappear. The clubs will be all over this and we'd know if you intend to match, so we'd both be mad not to take advantage of the AFL's compo.

geelong_crazy26 to be immensely disappointed next season.
just imagine selwood and dangerfield charging through contested packs like bulls with the support of caddy and blicavs immensely improving, will be a sight that lifts many tables and wipes the floor with adelaide at each midfield contest. please remind me who was your best midfielder?? you dont have the talent that geelong had in 2010 or hawthorn in 2013, you have a mid table side that cant cover such significance.

your welcome to watch the show front row at skoda stadium next season :)

You got two first rounders for him, it's not Adelaide's fault Stephen Wells pissed them up against the wall.

Yes they are. Dangerfield played pretty well at Adelaide this year despite not wanting to be there; his record at non-preferred clubs is pretty good. Melbourne would love to have him if only for a year.
correction, he doesnt want to be at adelaide in 2016. if he didnt want to be at adelaide in 2015 he would have asked for a trade at end of 2014.

What a salty post hahahaha!

It reeks of finding any excuse to put Geelong down and since the Crows are infinitely inferior to Geelong, you have resorted to jumping on another team's bandwagon.

Adelaide's incentive to match Geelong's offer is that Adelaide get a better trade deal for Dangerfield than they would if they did not match Geelong's offer. As I understand it, once Adelaide have matched Geelong's offer and Dangerfield nominates that he still wants to leave AFC, if Geelong cannot come up with an acceptable (to Adelaide) trade then Dnagerfield could end up at some other club which is prepared to offer an acceptable trade.
they dont have contract rights to him, if he doesnt agree to the trade he can walk, adelaide dont have the final say, dangerfield and his management do

From the Crows website:

Restricted free agents have the right to move to a club of their choice, subject to the current club’s right of first refusal over their services. That is, if the current club can ‘match’ the offer from a suitor club, the player must stay or enter the draft. The tabled offer includes only football payments and Additional Service Agreements (ASA) amounts.
http://m.afc.com.au/news/2015-09-23/free-agency-explained

Surely this is an error and the player can be traded after being matched?

If Danger names a club and categorically states it is the only club he will sign with other clubs offering a contract - should the Crows match and he decide to go to the draft - would be wasting their time. And you risk getting zilch.
