Gee this is a tough Poll but Rioli JUST for mine. Cyril's ability to change games in a blink of an eye give him the slightest edge right now and this may change but both are great players.

Would love either in navy Blue. :D

Obvious answer is both.

But as that isn't an option, I imagine my bias puts me to Danger.

Both have the ability to tear games apart. Rioli has a sense of class and footy IQ you can't teach, Danger had an attack and will you can't teach.

It's probably Patty's leadership ability that puts him over the top in my else, but seriously, both. Not a team in the comp that wouldn't be salivating at a chance at either.

Dangerfield. Just though. (If I had to pick a player only for this year it'd be Rioli) Good HFF who could develop into a really, really good strong (always underrated), classy ball winning goal-kicking midfielder - ie do it all.

Rioli superb class flanker but he's not gunna get much bigger & I personally doubt whether he's got the tank for midfield.

Big win for both clubs. Very happy we overlooked Ebert, although at the time Matt Rendell copped heaps, he has come out looking like a genius! Danger for me!

Was having a debate the other day about who Essendon would take in the 2007 draft if they could have their time again and it's gotta be one of these 2 IMO (pick 10 vs pick 12).

Who do you prefer?

Q - Who did they take?

As to the thread - no Hawthorn person would ever consider not having Cyril but Dangerfield looks terrific. Would love him too.

Essendon took David Myers at pick 6. Still has time on his side and might become a player but can't see him getting to the heights of these two.

Myers. Been broken 3 of 4 years. Will end up being solid eventually but doesn't have that star factor, scrubs a few too many kicks.

With 20/20 hindsight I'm not sure I'd go past Pears.

that's a pretty good point actually. If we're redoing it, there's no way he'd last the way he did

Agree - some very good players coming out of the that draft. While Cotchin and Kreuzer have had some trouble with injuries they will be very good 1 and 2 picks. But Pears, Riloi, Dangerfield and Grimes look like steals at where they were selected and if I re-did the draft the above players would be my top 6.

Rioli just - for this poll.

If people consider Rioli inconsistent, then Dangerfield must be a once in a season type player. I would have thought Rioli has more runs on the board than anyone else from that draft and he looks like he's still improving. Easily the most talented player on Hawthorn's list and that's saying something.

Rioli every day of the week and twice on gameday.

Dangerfield doesn't do it for me. I doubt he will ever be the midfielder people think he has the potential to become. Is tough and gives it everything, but I don't think he has the natural ability with or without the ball to reach the heights.

Also he might ruin himself through injury.

I have no doubt Dangerfield will be a very good footballer, but Cyril is a very good footballer now.
Both are young and will only improve over the next few years.

Dangerfield is very good now or have you forgotten about last week already?
One game doesn't make you a very good footballer, if he can keep this up for a whole year then he will be.

Rioli turns 22 in July, has played 68 H&A games + 4 finals & kicked 76 goals in 4 seasons.

Dangerfield turns 21 in August, has played 43 H&A games & kicked 51 goals.

At this point in time Rioli is the better player and is more advanced in his development as an AFL player. But that would be expected from someone who is in their 4th full AFL season verses Dangerfield's 3rd (he only played 2 games in 2008 as he was still living in Melbourne and completing year 12).

I'm glad that we have at least one of them.

Wrong 'A' month. He turned 21 today. :)

Dangerfield is a gun... would love to have him at Hawthorn. Cyril is an absolute freak, does things every week that only he and maybe a couple of others can do. His start to the year has indicated that his endurance has improved, if he can regularly rack up 25+ touches he will do some serious damage.

Love to clone him, as having a Rioli in the forward line would be awesome, but his vision, line breaking ability are to valuable in the midfield.
