Most of the pundits had him down for that range... shit even I had him slotted in somewhere in the late 20s to mid 30s. I had this weird feeling that taking him at 25 would have been a slight reach for him, but I knew that he wouldn't slide all the way to our third pick... and shocking the hell out of me, he slid all the way to our last pick.

It could be that the other clubs didn't want to take a chance on a kid who, after 2 years development, decides that he wants to go to Carlton and none of them picked him. They should know that coming from the Kerr family, he would give 110% every time he ran out for the club that picked him and he would be professional enough not to walk out on them without giving up a solid return for their investment.

I am so wrapped for the whole Kerr family that finally there is some joy in their life in seeing another generation of Kerr at the club... and his grandmother would be absolutely stoked because she doesn't have to cheer for another side :)

Carlton’s General Manager of List Management and Strategy Stephen Silvagni says Kerr a strong key forward.

“Patrick has really strong hands on the lead and usually finishes off his good work, he’s a beautiful set shot on goal,” Silvagni said.
“He’s also got great footy smarts and knows where to lead which is a good skill to have.
“Patrick is a terrific character great character and he loves the Club, so we know he’s going to give his all to the jumper.”

In the words of Quigley: "Kerr seems to think he is above the defensive side of the game. I can tell you he is going to be quickly disabused of that notion when he hits the AFL. He is going to get a swift kick up the arse every time he slacks off and I am expecting him to have trouble sitting down for the first half season or so."

Tried to find the Metro v SA game to see his last qtr but it doesn't seem to be on you tube unfortunately.
Happy with picking him up where we did!

Well we could use someone who stays at home. Too often we have gathered from defense running it forward only to find no one home.

Actually that's because the midfield is being smashed so to help everybody follows the ball to stem the tide.
But like water following the path to the lowest point. It's quite natural for all hands on deck in situations where the walls are breached that all available able bodied men go help against the oncoming raids
Simple answer to holding structure is standing your ground against the opposition taking the ascendancy and them pushing and setting up camp in their D50 as often and as swiftly as possible.
Hopefully we are bolstering the midfield in getting hands on the ball and the offensive and defensive spread.

Has no problem taking the mark at the highest point in the leap either. That's a good sign. No Jones "i only mark on my chest" nonsense here.

This is a great story.

I did not want to go near Patrick at 27 but with our final pick in the draft I am more than happy to take a chance on Patrick.

As an old school full forward he looks to struggle defensively and is perhaps a little one-dimensional but he does look to be a strong mark and a good kick for goal.

Has a long way to go but he's a nice prospect to pick up late in the draft. Low risk proposition for us as someone to replace Foster who never looked likely to make the grade.

Pat is obviously no certainty to make it either but you can be certain it won't be a lack of effort which holds him back. Loves the club and we've given him a golden opportunity to live his dream.

I doubt he'll feature at AFL level in 2017 but I look forward to seeing how he performs for the Northern Blues.
 
Good to see that he doesn't mind reeling around for a shot across the body. We've missed having players that can create shots from nothing. especially a KPP.
