He is slow in leg speed, and not overly hard at the contest, couple of times he just watched in the centre when he needed to impact at the contest, both times cost us goals. has no breakaway speed, so needs to get first possession or at a bare minimum break even with the contest. He is not going to be that big bodied mid for us, just like he wasn’t at the dogs. DeGoey is our only hope in that role
will just be a number running through the midfield.

we really need to inject some pace in that centre square

But he is 1 of our Better Users of the Ball

Does he? He's a really awkward mix where he's not an inside mid, but he's not fast enough to be an outside mid.

Now we know why the Bulldogs found it hard to play him.

So far he’s done well with both Adams and DeGoey in. With both of them out against a pretty decent outfit he was found wanting a bit.
Accordingly he doesn’t replace them (not a substitute) but can add to the team when Adams and DeGoey are in (hence complement). He can run all day and by and large is a good disposer of the ball.

Speed. Those 2 csn turn on a dime and are elite ball handlers. Lipinski can't do either.
They’re also allot shorter than Lipinski so it makes sense they can turn allot better. We made a GF with Tom Phillips and Chris Mayne on the wings and he’s certainly faster than them.

Are people still talking about Sier? He was as soft as butter and was quickly worked out by opposition coaches. This from a fan-boy initially. Lapinski is three times the player.
Sier had more x factor and possibly talent than Lipinski - particularly handball - but obviously not the required application. In any case, Lipinski is nowhere near good enough anyway to be 3 times better than Sier. He seemed great in the first game but the subsequent 3 have left me wondering what we saw in him. He is definitely not an inside mid in the style of Adams or JDG. I'll give him time, but watching Treloar play in a losing team tonight, I would take him any day over Lipinski.

Unfair comparison though. Lipinski is not on anywhere near the same money, and we got him for pick 43. I’m not sure where all these hyped up expectations of him came. He’s a budget stop gap pick in that age bracket, that’s been relatively solid for us thus far. He will never be a superstar, and isn’t paid to be.

Many critics here seem to have very unrealistic expectations.

For a pick in the 40’s and a middling pay packet, Lipinski has been a great get for us.

He is very clean by hand and foot, a good decision-maker, has great endurance, seems durable and is already one of our best deliverers of the ball inside F50.

Sure, he’s not as tough as Adams or Maynard but he’s a much better kick than both of them and I reckon will miss far fewer games through injury and/or suspension. A great value pick.

Gee the tide has turned pretty quickly! I thought the team struggled as a whole and that included Patty, it was going to be tough for him without Adams and De Goey there as his role changed a lot. A bad day at the office but I'm not jumping off yet, fingers crossed for a bounce back vs Brissy

The pitchforks are out. It’s been good reading tbh 😂

I wasn't a fan when we drafted him, but I'm not going to criticise his performance as yet when he's playing with new teammates, a new game plan and in a midfield which is not settled (for reasons of injury and suspension).

But I am critical of the interview which the club allowed after round 2, when Lippa talked about believing in himself, being starved of opportunity, etc etc. It had a tone of being critical of the Dogs, which has no place being aired in public. Gloating is what we do in here (inevitably before a fall) and it comes back to bite.

Pretty standard by the posters on bigfooty hey.

People forget this is another rebuild year. Could even possibly be the year after also.
It's also about assessing the worth of the players. How much potential to improve do they have? Several young guys looked overwhelmed yesterday. Can they rise above an odd cameo performance to being regular solid contributors and/or provide some x factor. Then some of the older players are near the end of their careers. Then there is the group of highly paid or touted players not performing to expectation. And finally the group that contributes each week. Two disappointing losses in a row are sure to create some reassessment of expectations and focus a microscope on the performances of players.

Why?

Because, as I said, it comes back to bite and when it does it can bring unnecessary pressure on the player. Going public about being pleased with himself after two rounds was premature. I want Lippa to succeed, and I want him to show up the Dogs - but on the field, not through talk.

Sounds a bit archaic to me.
