I've mentioned elsewhere that I prefer the McCreery:McKenna matchup as McCreery's pace and tackling can expose McKenna's weakness disposing of the ball under pressure. McCreery is also more likely to expose McKenna for footy smarts when McCreery has the ball

I’d send Hill and Adams (if selected) to McKenna, Lester and Wilmot.

Take a look at the job that Lippa did on Green and then Whitfield in the 3rd quarter on Friday night - understand that his kicking is off - that could be the result of fatigue. I'd play him on Coleman on Saturday - we'll need all the run we can get if it's going to be 28 degrees on Saturday arvo.
If this eventuates, we should be investigated for match fixing.

Coleman was huge for the Lions in the Prelim. When the game in the balance Coleman was everywhere driving off half-back.

He killed us last time at Marvel also.

McCreery needs to put the defensive in defensive forward on Saturday and go full on beast mode.

He laid 8 tackles against Geelong in round 22 and has a season high 9. The last two finals 4 each with is his average.

Only 1 tackle the last time we played Brisbane.

I've forseen it. It's a tight tussle for the first few minutes, but then the ball spills out to Coleman with a bit of time and space - he sizes up the options and is about to release a laser to Hipwood in a tonne of space, when Usain Beau flies in from nowhere to tackle, ball spills, Pies sweep it up for a turnover goal. Unleashing a Pies avalanche that crushes the Lions. Beau finishes with 3 himself from a series of bistering runs.

To go with the Brownlow, Nick wins the Norm Smith for 35 silky touches, but the opposition nuffies use it to get stuck into Nick with lots of booing and claim he's shit, as they thought Beau should have won it. Nick smiles bemusedly. Beau is so stoked with his Premiership medallion that he doesn't even know that the controversy has occurred.

At the ground I thought he was awful. Fumbly, reactionary, slow. Shocked to hear that people felt he redeemed himself in the second half?

Last week is last week. I want full Kipchoge mode when you come on on Saturday, Lippa!

Lippa a touch lucky, and I’m not convinced is a super sub. But gonna have to trust Fly on this.

I think the notion of super sub is overrated.

If a player is good enough to be a super sub, he deserves to start from the first bounce.

Good luck to Lippa when he does come on!

He is what he was at the Dogs a good player with limitations.
The main limitation is he's not quick of mind.

Imo his main limitation is not committing his body to the contest on occasions that he is required too.

Yes he is an outside player but he is also a 190cm dude and shouldn't be playing so meekly.

He showed in a game in last few rounds when he has a proper crack and puts his head over it that he has the capability to be a good player.

Needs to be put on him to stick his head over it, not physically wilt in 1v1s and have a farken crack lad.

Can't always be there for a handball recieve if the opponent is going harder at the contest and winking it or if your the only player at the contest.

He's a good kick in time and space, not so when under the pump. Unfortunately not much space in finals games especially the GF.
Yeah he's not hard at it by the AFL parameters and his shoulder is clearly still bothering him but he's been ok in the second halves of late when the heat has subsided.

Let it go.

He has been woefully out of form this season since returning fumbling, timid, burning the ball and all round struggling.
Forget a good game he has barely played a good quarter, should be dropped and made to re earn his spot.

He had a great debut year for us but how long does a season buy you, clearly Ginnivan it only lasted about 3 weeks....Lippas form has been worse then Ginni had produced before he got axed.

Is a liability atm.

Wrote this in July and its still rings true 2 and a half months later.

He played 1 excellent game after this let's hope he repeats the effort from that he has it in him if he mentally wants it enough the body will follow.

It was his best game all season by far, put in physically like he hasn't yet this season and it transformed his game.

That's the standard he needs to play to as he was excellent for most part vs Geelong I thought.

Write after the Geelong game in rnd 22. He needs to crack in like that game he got the balance right and was a different player.

Let it go.

But the Geelong game proves he has it in him and the shoulder held up. He looked a different player in that game vs the rest of 2023 output.

How that game didn't give him confidence in his body is amazing.

This isn't about turning him into an inside mid before someone says it, this is about occasions he's the only one there to contests or occasions needed for him to have a crack.

That Geelong game had bugger all pressure.

I want every player to crack in as hard af same as you but sometimes it what it is.

That's why Lipinski's the sub. I think his fresh legs can offer something when the heats out of the game. He's lucky Adams is injured or he wouldn't be playing at all.

Yes and that’s what happened with Ginni.

Super sub is a myth ( unless there’s a veteran on your list that can’t see out 100 minutes…. We don’t have a player like that)

The sub is the 23rd man. Preferably has versatility and is not inexperienced. Lippa fits the bill.

That’s as much about the opposition as anything else I’d have thought. Cats a team that does allow time and space for extended periods in games, relying on their defence to win the footy back.

He was actually playing inside mid more much of that good footy against the Cats.

Lapinski isn't a hard ball getter nor a ferocious tackler... what he brings is a good IQ and smarts with his handballs, he's got good vision and awareness similar to Sidebottom, Pendles and even Daicos brothers.... if he could become a more aggressive tackler he would be a real coveted player.
