Scott Burns was far superior to Lipinski as a player. Sam could use a transplant of Scott's courage too.

I think we need to define serviceable. Lockyer when had a roving commission around the ground, was one of our top players. He was highly skilled by foot, was a decent mark for his height and kicked goals, sometimes several of them. But his greatest asset was his endurance. I know for fact that coaches did not know how to combat his running ability. Then came the day when a new role limited his running and he became once again an ordinary player fighting for a spot. Lipinski will never reach the level above serviceable at which Lockyer operated when he was at his best and when the game plan was played to his strengths.

How on earth can you make such definitive statements about a 23 year-old at a new club?

My memory of Lockyer was as a hard and intelligent runner with really neat skills who didn't have much pace and who was lacking in a contest to play as a midfielder in a good team. It's also how I view Lipinski currently.

Our current problem is that we have an under-representation of them, so adding one in the right age group has been a win.

The crucial element of Lockyer's success was the run because it disguised his deficiencies while the positives were as you say. Coaches found him hard to match up. Once he stopped running, his effectiveness was greatly curtailed.

You would have to know Lipinski's role in the team before you make those assumptions. Lipinski is doing just fine

Okay. I will stand by that remark because for a time Lockyer was one of our best. I am confident that Lipinski will not get to the stage where he has the coaches struggling to set an opponent for him. Perhaps I underestimate his powers of endurance, but time will tell.

Daicos, De Goey, McInnes and Lippa are good. I reckon some of the other kids will be handy in the middle too, namely Macrae, Draper and Poulter. Josh Daicos is already a top shelf wingman. We need another inside bull, that's for sure

Lockyer was one our best when we were hopeless with only Bucks worthy of playing a key role.

Lockyer was elite by foot. He was also a better athlete than Lapinski.

I loved Tarks as much as the next Pies fan but this is overegging it a bit, IMO. A clever player and great kick but IMO would be behind, to name just a few, Bucks, Clement, Swan, Pendles, Daisy Thomas, Didak, Cloke, Rocca, Burns, Leon Davis, Heath Shaw, Dayne Beams (MK1), Sidey of 10 years ago. Tarks may scrape into my best Pies line-up of the past 25 years in a back pocket or on the bench.
