Watching the replay and they said lippa was sent to him to nullify him. Not a hard tag, but explains why he had 18 touches. But minimised Parish's influence to 3 kicks and 11 handballs.

There was questions if someone would be sent to him after half time.

I think Reef helped in that regard as well.

He did an excellent job mitigating the influence of Parish in the second half. Parish was on a historic pace at half-time, and that changed very quickly. Obviously a team effort, but I did not think Lippa had that kind of effort in him.

I remember towards the end of the first half that he was on Parish and started bagging him thinking he was giving him too much space. So he may have only just moved to him? Had no one near him prior to that!

Yeah it only started in the 3rd quarter.

Crisp had the gig for most of the first half, but I don't think there was any deliberate attention being put into him. Halving the rate he was getting possessions in the second half is a neat effort by whoever was involved

However its almost guaranteed anyone getting 30 possessions in a half will drop by about 50% next half no matter what or who plays on them.

I tend to agree. You add Parish’s injury into the mix and I’m skeptical of the benefits of that move.

On the whole Lipinski needs to do more to be an automatic selection in a finals caliber team. Perhaps it comes with continuity, but he’s plateaued this last month.

Its not a knock on Lipinski just pointing out using a stat that is right at the extremes of the range is one thats not likely to be reproduced no matter what

Yes, because coaches tend to change their strategy.
No because 30 possessions in a half is so far on the end of the possible range that its only occurs very rarely so is highly unlikely to be reproduced in the next half. Those stars wont align. Attributing it to coaching moves or opponents actions isnt the reason almost certainly.

If someone kicks 4 goals in a quarter, coaches make moves but the truth is circumstances will make that 4 goal quarter very unlikely to be reproduced in the next. The coaches moves didnt prevent a 16 goal game and they didnt prevent a 60 possession game.

I don't think the inside mid role is his go. Certainly think he is best 22. But I think he needs an outside role where he can use his kicking more than his hands. He has been serviceable without being outstanding.

He will be solid but doubt he gets to Crisps level. Crisp was a new 6 gamer when he came to us and exceeded expectations. Lippa has 5 seasons behind him so is a more known quantity. Solid best 22 without being a star seems reasonable. Bonus if more
Crisp had 3 seasons and 18 games under his belt, he has done exceptionally well at the Pies since coming across

Very true, regression to the mean in action.

There is a fascination with stats by some in here. Sometimes they accurately portray performance but many times they are misleading.

Parish had 10 kicks and 20 handballs in the first half and 3 and 11 in the second half.

13 kicks and 31 handballs total and 310m gained.

Greg Williams would get 40+ every week and destroy teams in todays game.

precisely on both counts!!

Lipinski has been good, not great, unless you consider the pick we got him with. In this case he has performed well and truly above a pick 43 (or whatever pick he was picked up for). The issue with Lipinski is that even though he is a big bodied mid with good skills he doesn't really fit into a midfield role naturally. He is too outside to be the inside mid and too slow and easily shut down for the outside role. Anyway still a good overall pick up at this stage and here is a thought. At age 23 he might get better.

He was off the ground in the 4th quarter, so if you are looking at 2nd half possessions, you're only looking at disposals for one quarter.
