AFL Club
Richmond
Adam Pattison

we all have seen a lot from him now - he looks to have ticker, pride in himself & the club.

but where is the best place to place him? i think we are a pretty good chance of having at least one (possibly two meesen and kruezner i hope) of these ruckman at the club next season - Charman, meesen , Kruezner

with the introduction of those players - i would want them to be playing the 2nd ruckman to simmonds next year.

the flip side is - pattison definitely has earned a spot in our 22 - but if not ruck - where?

i heard gold dust say before he is really slow - would he be too slow to play as a HFF who leads up the ground - and becomes almost a fourth midfielder - as he has a great ability to find the pill - and his size can sometimes throw off the oppositions midfielder.

thoughts?

I think even if we do draft Kruezer next year, he, despite already having the build to play AFL, could be in and out of the team next year for both development purposes and resting purposes. There is an unwritten rule that the number 1 pick always has to play AFL straight away but looking back I still think Deledio would be a stronger player today if he first played some Coburg action.

Simmonds I think will be 29 next years which means at best we has 4 years left in him. It looks like we could have one of Maric/Meesen/Charman/etc. by the end of the year and you would think they would all take 2nd ruck duties behind Simmo. This leaves Patto stranded a little bit. I think he will be able to find the ball alot better then Meason/Maric types but won't get as many hitouts. We therefore, might have to play a very mobile foward line that can adjust to playing anywhere from 2 talls to 4 talls. These would most likely be deep fowards in Richo, Schultz, Kruezer and CHF/HFF like Huges, Riewoldt, Simmonds and Patto. Those 7 blokes + maybe Meason/Maric, will be playing for probably 5 spots in the senior side:
- 1 starting ruckman (Simmonds)
- 1 Full Foward (Richo)
- 1 Centre Half Foward (Huges)
- 1 Foward Tall foward Pocket/flanker (Pattison)
- 1 Ruckman foward starting on the bench (Kruezer/Meason)

Looking at this analysis it really does show how, providing where injury free, Schultz fits into the team. I think he really could struggle to get a game if we are playing 3 ruck/fowards and 2 permeant tall fowards in the one side. A Schultz trade for Meason would probably be the best option at this stage IMO, which is a shame because he will probably go on to star at Adelaide

I was thinking the same thing. He is tall enough to play in a KP but he needs to put some meat on his bones first.

I love the way he tries and gives it his all for the jumper, but I can't help but think he is just filling in gaps for now...

Wallace loves Patto. He is always at the press conferences? Why? Future captain IMO is what Terry thinks.

thats a big call:eek:

although - if he is made of the right stuff - can continue to improve his game (less turnovers, better composure ) - i can see him being a vice -captain or something - his workrate is extremely good, and seems to have the passion.

He is like 20 years old right?

Going very well for a big man.

Can see the improvement every week.:thumbsu:

where is he best suited though ?

i think he really reeally needs to work on his hands and strength in his hands - needs to become a better mark - get that vice like grip

Has the passion + has a knack for a quote in the media.
A bit of a character I reckon and some personality to boot which we all know the Tigers have missed. Doesn't mind the tough stuff as well.
I like him! :thumbsu::thumbsu:

2nd ruckman/tall forward pocket IMO.

Forward setup

Petiffer Richardson Tambling
Pattison Hughes/Schulz Brown

That would be about right.....2nd ruckman/tall forward pocket IMO. But who is not to say if he keeps improving that he can't one day hold down the first ruck.

I think a certain other player from that draft who goes by the name Danny Meyer should be made to sit down and watch plenty of footage of one Adam Pattison.

On one hand you have one guy with modest ability doing everything humanly possible to get the most out of himself in order to have an impact and extend his career for as long as humanly possible and then on the other you have another guy with allt he talent to burn yet doing everything possible to become a footnote!!!

A good lesson there Danny Boy about what it takes to make the grade!!!

danny frustrates me no ends - been defending him a long time now - hoping, wishing this kid will be the player i read in the draft analysis.

not believing that a boy who would like to think of himself as a man - would not be wanting to go back to his homestate - and learn to adapt to a different lifestyle.

just about given up on him:(

it's not becuase he hasn't been performing - but because he just never shows an ounce of interest or care. no pride in his work. no frustration in his lack of impact. :(

he is running out of time, by seasons end - to show some worth. he is starting to smell of a rat, we have became suspicious of his efforts as an effort for him to be able to leave for free - and shaft us:(

very disappointing

I reckon he will be a future leader of the club one day personally. he has plenty of get up and go on field. He is one of the most loved blokes at the club cos of the way he work's hard. Im not sure if anyone has spoken to him before but he is no dil, come across pretty wity

PAtto has come such a long way, he now actually looks like a competent ruckman whereas at the start of the season he looked anything but. His skills are also on the improve. There's definately a spot in the side for Patto:thumbsu:

If Patto can improve his rucktap a bit more he'll be an absolute STAR! Know one trys as hard as he does!

lol if that is all he is to become i have to say what an appalling waste of a first round pick.

for the life of me i just cant see what people like about the bloke. because of his deficiencies i have to say i think theres more chance of him not making it than making it.anyway at 21 he has a lkittle bit of time to prove if hes good enough.

Has some mongrel, big motor and great attitude. Needs to work on his jumping for ruck contests, but his ability to win his own ball at ground level and take a strong mark will stand him in good stead.

i think by playing him in a pocket - it is a waste of his ability to find the ball. i think playing on a half forward flank, having a free role in offense - to basically be centreman will be the great role for him. and still using him in stints in the ruck

I think a lot of perople think he cannot play in the ruck, but if you look at current ruckmen, they are around 23 or so when they start to hit thier straps. I think once he puts on some weight, and has a bit more experience, he will be a very good ruckman.
The other aspect is that we are looking for a tall defender, according to Wallace in the paper. I know some people think Patto is slow, but if he is playing on the bigger, slower forwards, this will not be as big a factor, and we know he would work hard to get front spot, which is essential when playing on these guys.

Thought his work around the ground was very good once again, he is getting better each week. I think a big positive to come out of this year with losing Simmo and Knobel for nearly the whole year is the emergence of this young man. At the start of the year i wasnt sure if he was going to make it or not but now im convinced that he will be a great player for us.
This experience will do him wonders for years to come and i think Terry should just play all players in their natural positions to see how they perform instead of playing players out of position.
Well done Patto :thumbsu:

Pattison will become alot better now that Simmonds is there to help him out, similar to how Pettifer has improved since the return of Brown. Pettifer has kicked 13 goals in the last month, Brown has kick 6 goals in 3 weeks (goaless lastnight). These are good stats for our fowar line

i was just thinking about this - petts plays so much better with browny in the team which is most likely because he gets a lesser defender, but when browny retires hopefully pettifer steps up because browny's not always gunna be there

too undersized to be a decent ruckman and his kick in the first quarter showed why he belongs no where near the forward line

waste of a pick

your a ****in idiot. we have been winning the centre clearences bar last night due to patto's competitiveness in the middle and he has been great at linking up the pay around the ground.
