As for the recent discussion of the worthiness of ODI's, I think 50 over cricket is a rapidly dying format that should be quietly put to bed after we host 2015 WC.
I disagree with this. ODI's are still hugely popular in India and England and can still pull substancial crowds in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Provides broadcasters with the ability to sell six hours of intermittent advertising. Not to mention that there has been some amazing ODI matches/performances/moments recently. The only thing that is wrong is the over scheduling of matches with the stupid 7 match series' that we have seen over the past few years. In Australia they seem to play consecutive matches at the same venue (ie. playing in Melbourne two days after a huge drawing T20 or playing two consecutive games between the same teams in Perth which effectively splits the crowds between the two games as people would not go to both) which hurts crowds.
Also, stop playing the same teams. India and Sri Lanka have played god knows how many ODI's against each other over the past couple of years, but we're seeing both over here? Use the format more sparingly and develop the associate nations by integrating them into the fixture. Every time a team goes to the UAE to play Pakistan, schedule a couple of ODI's for the touring team to play Afghanistan or when teams go over to England find ways to involve Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands. Play them at smallish grounds in areas which don't get to see a lot of international cricket and they should still attract reasonable crowds. Hopefully you would see improvement in these nations cricketing teams and may open up new markets for the ICC. But you don't see that kind of forward thinking from the ICC or money hungry cricketing boards like the BCCI and CA.
