We know what Bower is capable of so I would like to see Watto and Aussie given the key roles.

Watson - Walker
Aussie - Tippett

See how they go with these two Crows players as they are in good form, it will be a real test for them. We need to know what our young guys are capable of and now is the time to test them, especially Austin.

Not to be unecessarily protective of my buddy but I don't think we do know what Bower is capable of. He has only just turned 23, and really there is no ceiling to what he could achieve for us in defense. He is clearly a bigger man than when last at full flight in 2009 and I think should be first in line to make CHB his own. More to be gained in the here and now if we get Paul settled.

They've also got game plans to tinker with, Jamison to get match fit and an upcoming season to prepare for. It can't all be about experimenting. I would like to see them using whatever structure they're planning on going with for round one.

I am lead to believe Bower set the record for bench pressing over summer.
Watched him do weights even whilst wearing the moon boot and man is he strong. Shoulders etc are massive. Cannot wait to see how he goes about it when back

CFC TV: Bower Interview

Pulled his left quad further up this time. :(

Turn that frown upside down...good news in that little snippet. Physiologically they have found something to work on to try and avoid injury going forward, and sounds like Gavin Brown is doing some good work with him.

Almost the forgotten man of this years campaign...if he (and Henderson)can find some touch leading into the back half of the season it could be massive for us.

Whats the go with Bower?

He played a small part as a sub for one game a few weeks back but hasnt played since....Any reason why?

Bower was the sub last week vs Brisbane.

He has struggled with injuries and just hasn't been able to build any sort of match fitness.

He was sent back to the VFL to work on that for a few weeks.

Emu is an important part of our side and will be back in the senior lineup at some stage, but he's not ready yet. In years gone past he'd be playing and building fitness in the seniors, but with our improved depth we can afford to keep him playing at a lower level until he's fully fit and ready to step up.

Sounds good to me, something needed to be done about his injury troubles and it's really good to see the club take some action.

He's super important to us when he's up and running and he has really lost confidence in his body to the point where it effected his on field performance.

With time to regain touch in the VFL, we should see him back at his best nearing finals which would be a huge bonus.

Bower is just regaining some touch after going up to the AIS and working on his running gait to help with his quad troubles. He'll take another fortnight to work himself back into good touch. Short of injury, Bower should be back in the first XVIII in the next 6 weeks.

If you're puzzled as to why we should do this, I direct you to his 2009 season, and his early games in 2010. When he is fit, Paul Bower is a huge asset to our defensive run, and combined with Jamison, Yarran, Tuohy & Russell, will leave the opposition helpless in attempting to cover all the possibilities.

Pretty much sums up my own thoughts on Bower.
Did Jimmae tell you that? :D

I know it's a contact sport and people get injured, but it's so frustrating for us as fans. I can't imagine what it would be like for the players. Some guys just never seem to be able to get their body right, and we have a few of them in Bower, McLean, Austin, etc.

I agree with the consensus that when fit, Bower is still a very important part of our back-line. I'd rather play him as a third tall rather than at CHB, so that he's not playing on big key-forwards all the time, and so that we can use his athleticism and run from the back-line. The guy that I am really excited about and want to see as our future at CHB is Watson. However, with both he and McCarthy still a year or two away from being regular senior players, it is great that we have a guy like Bower who though not ideal at CHB, is able to fill that position for a while. Add those two kids and Bower to Jamison, Thornton, Austin and some versatile talls like Waite and O-hAilpin, and we have some really good depth as fan as tall backs go.

Im banned from TC for some strange reason, TG.
Just use it for cross referencing every now and then and I don't know anyone from there.
Come to think of it, I don't know anyone from here either as far as I know. :D
I'm not going to ask

Keeping my eye on Bower as much as any other player battling for a spot in our team.
May just be the last piece of the puzzle that will give us a good showing in September.

Hoping he has a ripper on Sunday.
Agreed, easily our second best KPD currently and if he can hit top form and fill an important hole in our team by the end of the season it'll go a long way towards a more successful finals series.

It's just been so hard.

We have Bower and Austin injured more often than not, then we have Watson and McCarthy not ready just yet.

Cruel set of circumstances for our back-line.
I think Bower done for the year, If he can''t get some good form in the next month. The season is nearly heading to final stages.

What a waste of another year for Paul. Extremely disappointing!
I believe he will ask to be traded at the end of the year back to the West. I had a look at both Fremantle and West Coast Victorian players that might be offered in some deal.

Fremantle.

Nick Suban, half-back flanker,180cm , 21 years old. I think Dockers Rate him but we have enough half-back flankers.

Alex Silvagni, Tough defender, 191 cm, 23 year old. I think a little short as a defender but tries hard.

West Coast Eagles

Luke Shuey, Midfield 183cm , 21 year old.
Koby Stevens, An inside midfielder 187 cm 20 year old.
Mitch Brown, Key-position player 195 cm 23 year old.
Will Schofield, Defender Defender 196cm 22 years old.

The Fremantle list doesn't excite me on the players we could get .I would be looking to get either Schofield or Brown as a straight swap if we can get that deal now.

Koby Stevens and a draft pick maybe. I'm not sure how they rate him?

I doubt Eagles will let go off Will Schofield but Mitch Brown might be a possibility.

I thought Bower showed some good signs yesterday, albeit from a single quarter.

He executed a couple of those trademark jinking runs which it seems like we haven't seen for an age. Also competed aggressively and effectively in the air.

People forgot how important this man is to our entire setup. He provides such strong rebound and though he probably isn't the perfect CHB, I would much rather have Jamison and Bower as our KPD than any other combination.

Paul took a step forward yesterday, and I sincerely hope he can stay injury free for the remainder of the season. His best football is very, very good.
