Sounds like you're blaming Paulie for that, when we got smashed at the centre bounces and through the midfield and Roo's supply was pretty decent. No defender would have stopped him in the first quarter.
 
another 26 touches for paul, reiwoldt got the ball handed to him on a platter for 3 of his 5 goals, and twice he outmarked paul one on one, i reckon paul did a bloody good job....... sign him up now
 
He's fantastic to watching on the rebound, running it up through the corridor. I remember him reversing the flow of the game last year against Wet Toast at Subi with a gutsy mark and rebound which resulted in a crucial Kade Simpson goal in the last quarter. Defensive rebound players are so damn important.

He's conceding less than 2 goals a game, which I think is pretty decent considering some of the assignments he's been given and the fact he's only played 30 odd games. Pago Pago should have blooded him earlier.

Yup, he's developing into one of the better rebounding tall defenders in the comp....I'm sure Swann and Icke appreciate how important he is to the structure :thumbsu:

What about Austin? I was thoroughly impressed with his game and he showed a fair bit of confidence. He's also a bloody good size.
We have some great kids developing down back! :thumbsu:
 
Bower plays on the Edge. The edge between brilliance and disaster. He takes opponents on, and catches them off-guard by taking the almost suicidal option routinely when running the ball out of defense. He's intense and frantic. Somehow 9 times out of 10 his daring play comes off. And when it does the opposition are as confused as everyone else and haven't had time to set up their defensive flood. It caught the Saints defense out repeatedly last night. :)

Yup, takes off and worries about the consequences later :D. Given the way he does this at all costs, his decision making is excellent.......you may not pick it by looking at him :o, but I reckon the neurons are all up and firing upstairs :thumbsu:

Did a fantastic job over the last couple of weeks. From a Hawk Supporters point of view he's come from nowhere, but you guys might have a different opinion.

Grigg did a nice job last night too.
 
IMO our backline looked so much more decisive, positive and constructive without Bret Thornton slowing us down continually.

Rapt in Bower, Jamo and Austins potential and performance last night as well as the rest of our backs.

Even against the Saints, who are the best at getting back and clogging, we had enough space in our forward line to create. All because we rebounded decisively.
 
This guy is just simply amazing. Can't believe people continue to underrate him by saying he's no more than a 3rd defender. Get this bloke some muscle and I guarantee you he'll be a future AA CHB.

In the first quarter, Superman himself couldn't have stopped Riewoldt the way the ball was coming into their forward 50. As soon as some midfield pressure was applied, I thought Bower towelled up Riewoldt. Take out the first quarter, and you'd have given Bower a 9 out of 10 for his game. And as said already, he could do little in the first quarter with their midfield dominating

Even Austin was doing it, which I thought was fantastic. Who is the defence coach these days? They're doing a good job.

I just cannot forget the bagging this kid got in his first few seasons by fickle Calrton supporters. Quite shameful. Here was a kid having a red hot go and playing on instinctively whilt his more senior temamates where holding on to the ball kicking it sideways to protect their disposal efficiency. When it did not pay off, it set Carlton supporters into a frenzy.

Thank God the Match Panel perservered with him and fast tracked his development and not listened to those fickle supporters craving for instant success. I see a bit of Bower rubbing off on Austin which is great to see. Every time Bowere goes for a run and lays it off he continues his run and gets it back penetrating opposition zones.

All we need to do is move Thornton out for the new defensive brigade to stamp their own authority.

Hear hear! If I didn't have exams this week and I wanted to piss away even more time on BF, I'd go on a name and shame session!

Quite a few people question some of his decision making and looking flustered when he has the ball.

After watching the game again last night his decision making was so quick especially when under the pressure. A number of times he would recieve the ball under pressure, handball it off, get it back and then take off.

I am hoping swanny will get him in his office over the break and get his signature on the bottom of a new 3 year deal.
 
Love the way he runs it out of defence - straight up the guts counter attacking. Not only good to watch but puts the pressure back on the opposition.

Funny thing is, I tend to spend much more time on BF around exam times than I do any other time of year, just to get out of study. Funny what happens when you take a subject that you actually enjoy, eh? :o

Last week against the Lions, Walls was getting into him for handballing backwards every time he got the footy. This time, half his touches must have been handballs forward. I'm not sure even he knows what he's doing half the time but whatever it is, he does it brilliantly. Love watching him play. :thumbsu:

Back in the 70's Thommo use to say half the time he had no idea where the ball was going so what chance did the batsman have? Emu - organised chaos. :thumbsu:
