I've become a glass half full sort of guy recently, should try it...thought Johnson was a great replacement, could be really something for us going forward

Stop (*&^#&% around, Emu!

If we could get Bower, Walker, Jamison and Waite on the field for 11 consecutive weeks (ie. half of one season) I think people in the football world would genuinely sit up and take notice and go "hang on a minute... Carlton have a really good defence!".

These guys, along with Russell and, in smaller roles, Armfield, Joseph, White, Thornton etc, can really form a back 6 that gets it done week in, week out. They've got dash, athleticism, a touch of size, and in a few cases some skill.

Stay on the park, guys! This is when the "next good teams" become the "really good teams", when they play together, are injury-free and build up momentum.
Agree totally Faz. At the season launch I saud to Kreuzer that I though one of the keys to our success this year was having Bower and Jammo fit and playing 22+games together, or near enough to. He agreed, suggesting that the stability of having guys who know each others games inside out is one of the things that will help take us to the next level.
I'd put Russ in that core group now, along with Army and AJ. Russ is our version of Heath Shaw (and as with all things Navy Blue vs Black and White - its a better version - Russ can actually defend one out) and not many teams have two quality small defenders, and with Jammo also able to play small, we have the only defence capable of stopping our own forward line. :D

The key to stopping our forward line is beating our midfield. And if our midfield are working hard and winning most of the contested ball and moving it fast into the forward 50 and then working equally hard when we dont have the ball then the pressure on our defense is also eased. As good as our new forward structure it, its success is dependent on our mids being on top, and as tight as our defense is it too is dependent on a chop out from the mids slowing the delivery in.
