Another shocking performance tonight, doesn't have the strength and skill to survive at afl level. Id rather Thornton in the team. Im sure his spot will be up for grabs next week.

You will probably get a red card for suggesting Bower be dropped and Thornton be promoted but i 100% agree with this call.

Bring back Setenta and Fisher, and put either one of Setenta or Waite in the backline to help out our defence. Our backline is seriously out of form!

Once again you want to rearrange the deckchairs and keep out the only guy in the club that has serious backline experience

It is no good being muscle bound when he clearly lacks confidence playing CHB he is not suited there.I agree about the backline being under siege the mids let the ball out way to easy.

We just need to have a settled frickn backline that's had a solid preseason together. Also could we just get one big bodied backman? Just one? Please? Marcus will be one day but come on.

I nearly bit off a corner of the TV when I saw Bower give up on a contest and grab his head playing for a free. Gosh.

I hope they're made to watch that so many times this week. I want to go back there and get revenge. I laughed when one of the flogmantle tossers said he felt well and rested.

What a flogasaurus.

Flog.

I have faith in Bower. He will come good once he gets his pace back.

I don't think he should have been brought back into the side halfway through the year because he didn't look fit

Who is Jamieson?

Because I know that Jamison is a good young defender who was far from our worst tonight.

Our backline was under siege, yet it was all our backline's fault.

Well said. :thumbsu:

You can't blame the backline personnel for our loss tonight. The vast majority could hold their head up high. The game was won and lost in the midfield and Freo were pummeling the ball into our defence. Great effort to have been so close throughout the game considering how often and how quickly the ball kept coming back.

I know he's not the greatest player but we lacked Hadley's influence in the middle tonight. Just someone to lock it in and prevent Freo from getting the ball clear as often as they did.

Prove me wrong then. Neither have improved in the last 12 months. Pull your head out of the sand.

Point in Bower's favor... He was playing the end of last year on one leg.

Was brilliant in the first 2 weeks of this season and then went down with that quad injury. Got rushed back into the side and did the other one.

At the moment, he isnt playing with a lot of confidence because he isnt confident in the strength of his legs at the moment. He doesnt want to go down with another quad injury at this point of the season.

That being said, if we could get away with sending him back to the VFL for the remainder of our season, then I suspect that we would. Possibly bring in Setanta and play Waite down at CHB. T-Bird has just about done his dash at the club with his attitude and lack of effort.

Thornton hasnt really been doing anything special in the Bullants since he was banished there and therefore doesnt deserve to be brought back into the side.

If Austin was 100% fit and firing, I would be tempted to bring him in to replace Bower at CHB and bring in Walker for Davies.

We might end up seeing Thornton being traded to one of the Adelaide teams or to WCE as a part trade deal. Those teams are about to head into a rebuilding phase and could possibly use a seasoned defender who will be their backline general for the next couple of years.

Our backline was under the pump all night because they couldn't get it out of the back line.

True whenever it went into our forward line it was carried out swiftly, deftly and with aplomb - making things harder - but the fact remains they simply could not get it out.

We were hugging the boundary line like a fat kid on a cup cake - invariably leading to OOB -worse - OOBOTF. Disgrace.

Constantly kicking to their advantage, Sandi, or even two on ones - it was just crap.

Raising the issue that we were under the pump alludes to it not being their fault- it was - it was panicked, sloppy, ill considered and self imposed. Kicking the footy against the wall and calling it tough because the ball keeps coming back is skirting - kick it over the wall.

Incredibly awkward watching him the past few weeks. I cringe when he has the ball, because he is just either badly out of form, or suffering an extreme case of lack of confidence.

he has shown little awareness the past few weeks, last night especially. Thank god Jamo has lifted, otherwise we'd be a right shambles back there.

Bower needs a huge pre-season to beef up and get fit. He looks awkward.

Needs a huge pre-season and a big boost of confidence.

Can I ask what was bad about his game last night?

Couldn't recall him having too bad a game, and I though he did some nice things from where I was sitting.

The quad injuries have robbed him of speed and he can't stick with forwards on the lead. Confidence is shot and really effecting him when he has the ball. Let's hope he's back to last years form after a rest and a pre-season.

Pretty much sums up what went on last night .

I really thought Bower would be a star, providing great rebound off the half-backline, but he has gone backwards and his confidence levels are shot. Hopefully with a full pre-season he can put his horror 2010 behind him.

That is complete rubbish, Thornton has been in the best players the last four weeks he has 30+ touches in the last two to three games and is still in our best 22,.
Mark Austin is so over-rated he has played a few games in four years on the list, looking at him today he is so far off senior level football.
Not denying Thornton may be part of a potential trade, however if we are serious about selecting our best 22, the coach & player need to resolve the issues.

Overrated and hasn't preformed at VFL level.

Went about 24 hours early on that call...:)

you would think so, but we have a few panic merchants in the side who don`t like it when the pressure is on, so you cannot drop them all. j. russell is another one who is like a rabbit in the headlights under pressure. this is why gibbs should stay in defence (imo)because he is the calming influence back there. also, w.hughes should start recruiting players who go in and get the ball, not wait for it to be fed out to them !!!

Agree he needs to put some size on & get stronger in the core.

His left foot kicking lacks any distance & cost us tonight.

However not sure he goes out for Thornton.

Anyway just goes to show how desperate we are for a strong CHB.
yep !!! carlton has been kidding themselves that bower is a kpp. a flanker at best !!! the blues need a gorilla at chb.would not have to be fast, as long as they got someone who could stand his ground and bring the ball to the deck so that our sweepers could clear it away. we have enough runners ( i guess you can never have too many !!!), but not enough strength down the spine.

He definately is best suited to 3rd tall defender. Well at this stage in his career at least, if he got some muscles he might actually be that CHB we need. For now though, he should definately be playing flanker.
