Paul Bower's best is potentially AA. Let's not forget that.

I liken him to Walker. If we had traded Walker to the Crows or Power last year, we would be livid right now. IMO it's the same as Bower.

Injuries, and interrupted pre-seasons hit KPPs harder than midfielders. Look at Lake this year, and even Jammo and Waite last year.

With KPPs, every possession is about beating your direct opponent.
Lose 10% of your game and that's all your opponent will need to out-jump, out-body and out-run you.

Keep Bower, he's a Tim Tam...

...There is no substitute for quality.:D
There's a thought.... trade him for Lake!! might need a sweetener as well though.

He has had 2 years of injury and out of form issues not good enough, and if he does not play this season especially us probably making top four. then i would certainly consider a Trade. Excuses for him are over sorry to be harsh but thats how I feel!

using your logic you are trading a bloke worth nothing
what is the point of that?
Trust he will overcome injury
Trust he has learnt a lot of skills whilst injured
Trust he has talent

it is like when people wanted to trade TBird. He already this year has delivered more than what we could have got
Bower is quality-trust

Couldn't agree more, no point trading someone when they've been out for an entire season as you're bound to get unders for them. Bower's got plenty of footy ahead of him and a bit of time in the weights room and a solid (injury free) pre season will pay dividends.

Bower was in all australian form before he done hes quad came back to early never been same player since.Hes missed alot of footy i wouldnt write off yet.

i'd have bower in he best 22 over white anyday of the week, he is taller, leaner, lankyier nothing against white i just think in my opinion he is allready at his peak and will not improve in any significant way where as bower still could. more height in the backline is what is needed espically against teams with a donkey kong and a king kong.

Bower 192cm 92kg
White 190cm 91kg

Neither of them are tall or heavy enough...

Austin 193cm 95kg

Hmmm!

1cm and 3kg really doesn't put Austin that far ahead.

Leo Barry was under 190cm, so was Micky Martyn. Both were very good tall defenders.

Bower is 10x the player Austin is. In 2009 i thought he was in AA form as a running defender.

Scarlett 192, 94.

I know who I'd take.

What's each one's closing speed like? Arm length/reach?

Lake too slow and fat, if we couldn't swap Bower for him, without a sweetener their something wrong. The Bulldogs would win that deal. I would be looking for Will Schofield, if we could get him or maybe Brown or just keep Bower. Their no way of delisting him, as I reckon his a good player, we just can't get a Season out of him.

Carlton and other AFL clubs have had a history of trading players, that continually not in the 22 most season, either a bad season or injury or can't get a gig. This is good or average players, only the rubbish get delisted.

Before anyone asks, I have no source for this but need to ask the question in case someone does know one way or the other.

Is there any chance he has been approached by GWS and the club fears they are going to lose him so are preparing for life after he leaves?

If this is the case, why would we not play him to set ourselves up for a decent crack at the top 4 and beyond this season while increasing the trade value we would get for him?

I sincerely hope we are not leaving him out of the side for other than football reasons but given he cannot get game time with Waite, Jamo, Duigan, Laidler, White, Austin, Hendo missing in various combinations, it surely cannot come down to purely a fitness issue if he is getting through games in the Ants then being held back as an emergency (or played as a sub) thus missing further valuable game time and match fitness.

There is something wrong with Emu and I hope it is not a more serious injury we are not being told about or worse still, reasons to do with him leaving the club under any circumstances.

Scarlett is an exception to the rule. A Freak. The law of averages would suggest we need a gorilla to combat a gorilla.

and hopefully that gorilla turns out too be the young man from pascoe vale Big Watto. mcarthy seems like a potential brick wall as well. chances are if anything one becomes a best 22 and one comes in from the vfl every now and again.

watson needes a massive pre season of competive work he will ok we got to be patient McCarthy will be a beauty hes never going to be huge reminds alot of Fletcher

Ok then if Bower does not get a game now, with injuries to our backs then the Mc thinks he is out of form and does nor warrant a gig. He is basically not played consistently for 2years now, eventhough he was our in our best 22 before then. But i agree his trade value will be virtually nothing, so maybe keep him on the list as a back up. Then again he may want to leave himself seeking greater greater opportunities!

the other way of looking at it is are they trying to hide him and his talents to avoid being pinched.
I doubt the club is doing either but we know GWS and GC are active as trying to get players

there is an obvious reason why he is not getting a game. Fittness.

He's had a chronic injury for the last season and a half which i believe to be a quad problem which means, at this stage, he is likely to break down during a game.

Secondly being a running player this sorth of thing has a major influence on his game seeing his game involves a lot of running.

The guy has next to no carry over fittness from last season, has hardly had a preseason and has played just a handful of games in the VFL this year.

What the club will be hoping is that he plays VFL, does all the training he can and by an off chance he has gained enough fittness to play AFL at some stage before the season's end.

We don't play unfit guys in the AFL and playing him as a sub does him no favors. This guy is a big key to our success in the future.

People forget just how good this guy was and was looking to be. I have no doubt that if he had not had any injury problems he'd be there abouts for AA selection.

Was I the only one who wasn't overly impressed with him? Don't get me wrong I believe he has a spot in our starting 18 but I can remember always biting my tongue when he was in possession in the backline sensing a turnover.
