I hope Bower gets a good run at it Sunday.
Needs a good lead in for Collingwood & hopefully will be primed to be ready for the finals with a couple of months of good footy to be played.

At times we have looked 1 tall short down back, allowing for Jamo's return & Bower holding his spot, it gives a lot of versatility & a plan B for sides that have multiple monster forwards - i.e. WCE & Collingwood.

Seems things are falling into place selection wise.:thumbsu:

Thing is - I don't really see Bower as 'monster defender' - he's your more mobile creative, attacking, white-knuckle type play maker of half back.

Not a gorilla as Pagan would call them (having said that we don't really have any gorillas apart from Jamo ???).

So Jamo being 1cm taller than Bower makes him a gorilla? This gorilla term is a load of crap anyway. Some players regardless of size have capabilities of playing on players taller and heavier than them. Some people are just naturally strong, some have great closing speed and a good fist (i.e. Jamo, Josh Gibson). So many factors come into being a defender rather than just size and weight.

Have never rated Bower. Has always had dubious skills and lacked composure under pressure. I don't care what anyone else says, I've watched every game Bower has played in and I won't be convinced otherwise.

Bower needs to step up and prove himself, otherwise I think he's trade bait. In my opinion, Laidler has shown far more than Bower in only 9 games for the Blues.

Ok. So would you feel comfortable playing Bower on Dawes, Cloke or Q Lynch ???

Bower has form on those types.
Done the job on Bradshaw in the past & was lookinh like holding down that 2nd key defender spot.

The next few weeks will tell the story & also determine if we have added a further string to the bow.

Utter shite

Eagles did not give up on Kerr and look at him now.
Bower is worth sticking with-keep up to date with the Ants thread

BG ... you would have to be dead set kidding wouldn't you ... comparing to one of the best midfielders in the game to a very average defender.

I would say trade Bower while he still has some currency and most before he has any more injuries and most importantly any potential trading partners realise the limitations of his game.

guns was comparing them at all. He was suggesting the Eagles persisted with Kerr when he was absolute crap due to his injuries and in his mind we should do the same with Emu - an opinion I concur fully with.

Im with this guy. I dont understand the love for him on this forum.
Every time Bower has the ball in his hands I get nervous. Seems dazed, confused and regularly choses the wrong option.

Wonder what all these Bower lovers would say if he was just brought into the side to fill a gap UP FORWARD, until Jamo comes back!

We will see in 45 minutes...

Well common sense would say they won't be able to judge him as a defender if he's playing forward.

Exactly Bower is only 23 his injuries have held him back. Has had no form coming into this game and is playing on name sake alone.

Must be tried to see where he is at, and not ONLY 1 game give him four solid games and see what has to offer. Remember we have Watson to develop and he played his best game yesterday for the Bullants.

I think Austin is gone simply not good enough at even Vfl level disposal is a problem!

If he doesn't play there today, you would think there is NO spot for him in defense...

Would you agree Sin????
No.

When he's match fit he's our best current choice at CHB and our second best tall defender and if not there then he's a very good third man up who offers good rebound. Running out of time in 2011, probably has about four more weeks to get a spot there but when he's fit he's an important part of our defence.

Not so sure Sin, I think Hendo is our best current choice at CHB...

I think Bower is up against Laids for the 3rd up spot...

No, Henderson has not proven himself yet at CHB, Bower has.

He's also shown more than Laidler and Thornton when he's at his best.

Joseph, Bower are not in Carltons best side it couldnt be any more obvious today.

Really??? The guy who has been injured for most of the year and struggling for touch didn't come in and immediately rip it up?

Per haps we better trade Kreuz while we are at it given we are basing our list on just today's performance.

anybody judging Bower on tonights peformance need to take a look at themselves. First game back, and its well known the step up from VFL to AFL, he was tried forward I would assume to get runs into the legs, when he was moved back he looked comfortable but was just short of a gallop.

Witht he run into September he'll get better and player that running backman that we know he can play.

Judging him on tonight after real first game for the year is poor form.

Very harsh to judge Bower on yesterdays performance, why he spent time up forward I will never know. He would me the most unlikely forward in the whole club.

As soon as Waite went down I would have put Hendo forward and bower straight to Hall.

Totally agree.:thumbsu:

Bower never seems relaxed when he has the ball and always seem to have a panic look about him. As a supporter i feel the same way and worry when he gets the ball and what he's going to do with it.

Overall not so sure that he is in our best 22 (even when in form) now that Hendo is down back. But i guess while Jamo is out we need his height down there.
