Paul Daffy Mock Here

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I always read Burgatron Phantom for the inside snippets he had. Daffy not doing this is a big disappointment. We can get any number of semi informed mocks on BF what we are looking for from these guys is some information about what is happening behind the scenes.

Great that he threw up a few different players but we have no idea if he is pulling them out of his butt or teams are actually interested in them.

Overall I have thought Daffy's efforts in the lead up to the draft have been pretty lacklustre. Give us some gossip, some snippets of information that are not already out there. If he gets another chance next year hopefully he puts in a better effort.

It really does make you wonder. Really feels like the ordinary bigfooty phantom draft. I guess we just have to trust that he has the inside info but isn't verbalising it.

He seems to be setting it out to give the casual afl.com reader an insight rather than us draft junkies who want the inside word as to where each player might land so in that regard it was a little disappointing.

Fail...

Stick to writing about the Under 16's in the Southern League Daffy.

Andreojls???

Luke Mitchell at 64 is laughable!!!

Agree the Info he gave was Crap and Does not Fill you with Confidence compared to what Burgan Does. Wish Emma did a Full Phantom Draft

Lets see how accurate it is before we bag it too heavily. I found it interesting that he said the Cats wouldnt pick up Smith at 15.

He defiantly hasnt followed popular opinion, only time will tell if he is right nor not.
You mean he hasn't followed Big Footy opinion which in almost all cases year after year gets no where near the actual draft result.

Do you sorta think you might over rate the BF phantom drafts just a little?

Paul Daffey is no Burgatron, alot of talent left til very late in the draft..........very odd

I find some of the best drafts leave some of the best talent towards the end with some really different names early because it shows they have really given it some thought and have a couple of names up their sleeves that others don't.

Anyone who a month out from the draft had Sebastian Tape, Reece Conca and Dion Prestia inside their top 10 I would have really found the most interesting because it isn't just copying the mainstream. While I would have in all likelihood strongly disagreed because it Tape is an undersized KPD, Conca is a bland midfielder without any standout weapons and Dion Prestia is too short to go top 10, it makes for the most interesting reading and the only worthwhile reading.

This is one of the things that makes Quigley's mock draft so good. So many different names in different positions and it is actually his opinion rather than just copied view.

So in short. Don't be put off by different draft positionings. Those drafts that look different are often the most informed.

Chris25 has seen more of him than I have and being from SA could probably give the most info.

But my notes: Tall leading forward. Could play FF/3rd tall. Slight question on height at 192 and feels slightly undersized, if he grows to 194 he should be a KPF. Strong overhead. Accurate goal kicker. Field kicking seems solid for a tall, but doesn't seem to have great penetration at this stage. Seems pretty mobile. Needs to add some muscle but that should come with time.

Probably feels most like a Jarrad Grant on style.

Had him as a 3rd round and onwards guy, not sure he will go 2nd round so Port Adelaide might be able to get him a little later if keen. But an interesting player to have at that stage anyway.

I like von Bertouch. I think he is a really good prospect, because he almost combines the best of both worlds. He has that classic leading full forward aspect to his game, but he is really quite fast for a full forward and is mobile enough to move up the ground if needed.

I had him more around the 50 mark, but I wouldn't be too disappointed with him around 40.

Thanks guys. Always hard for guys like me to tell on 2 mins of afl.com footage. They all look good there. ;)

Notes:
Darling at 26 is very, very close to my prediction at 25. Really interesting he has him lower end because the majority have predicted higher rather than lower.

Kirk Ugle at 29! 171cm lad. I heard something about on the news in WA it was rumoured he would be the selection. Would be a really interesting pick if it happens!

Wilson at 71 represents good value. Could be a late-rookie selection.

Daniel Farmer at 75! A player i've actually really liked. Feel he should be more in the 40s or there abouts. Would love for Collingwood to take him in the 40s even.

Anton Hamp as a 50-rookie is almost a little surprising. Been hearing both WCE + Freo have been very keen and might use 2nd rounders to secure him. Would be intersting if he goes so late.

Darling at 26 is promising. Would love it if we could get him there but hopes arent high yet because i'm expecting him to go earlier. Worried about Fremantle's pick 20 if he slides. They've stated that there first pick WILL be local. Darling could fit there and be a sucession plan to Pavlich

Ugle - Recruiting staff should be put towards the firing squad if we select him over Andreoli or Fasolo to name a couple. Lot of Eagles fans and bf members wont be happy to see this

Wilson at 71 is ripper value for North. Even greater value if selected after here

Farmer at 75  if he was to slide that far i'd be cursing Jacob Brennan. One player that i'm interested with at pick 29 especially if we were to get Darling as we have a local boy sewn up.

Hamp's an interesting one. Been on my radar for pick 26 or 29 if option a and b are off the market. What his got going against him is his been stuck in the thirds at WAFL level (Colts) due to his club not wanting to play there colts boys in league. If he goes between say pick 40 or 50 or before it would be to West Coast or Fremantle who have had greater exposure to him. After pick 50 it's open slather with him

Still think McCarthy's should be pick 19 or earlier. Happy to be proven wrong but Hawthorn should take him pick 19 if his available imo

If Luke Mitchell makes it to Essendon at pick 64 that would be a dead set steal for them. Personally i rate him much higher than that. Even if he isnt your streamlined, athletic, recruiters dream key forward

Darcy Barden? He didnt get a mention did he

Jermey Howe footage for those that don't know much.....he is a Russell Roberston type who just takes hanger after hanger.....I love him!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucD6aJmCu6s

A bit of Robbo/Kyle Hardingham about him for sure. Looks like he's a good kick for goal as well. Does he rely too much on his leap in marking situations? Didn't see any good body work there. Looks worth a shot though.

Darling would be an incredible selection for the WCE if he slides that far! I think Brisbane might just pip you at the post for that one. But if he slides, will be very good value at that stage!

Hamp could pretty much go anywhere his range is pretty wide. Could go as high as 29 or could be a rookie. Will be interesting to see where he lands.

I meant it as a complement that he hasnt followed popular opinion. I thought it was pretty clear that i thought what people were saying was at least a bit harsh. Sorry for any confusion.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

I think it adds a fair bit to the draft though, not knowing a whole heap about what will happen. Outside the top 10 anything could happen. There may even be some surprises in the top 10.

I think my favourite part is him correcting the guy who asked about Michael Hutchinson, and said "Do you mean Michael WIlkinson? He's been nabbed by the Gold Coast, and rightly so."

I much preferred the Burgatron. He always had "inside information".....did you get yours from Big Footy? Wednesday November 17, 2010 2:37 geoff

Hi Geoff,

I've got inside info as well. I just need a catchy name.

whoever said this, gold :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yeah that was a tad embarrasing for Daffy.

I don't think he knew who Chalwell or Andreoli were either.

And Michael Hutchinson. Got him a little confused with Joel Wilkinson who is also from QLD. Obviously didn't watch QLD during the champs in much detail because they were two of their better players.

Should have noticed this post earlier before I posted mine. Embarrassing moment there. I hope for his sake there weren't too many other close draft followers listening in on the chat.

I admit I smiled when I read this :)

Would love Colin Wisbey to do this. Not in the drafting practice anymore from what I hear and now studying game plans and strategy, but would really like him to become the new afl.com Burgatron. Would be much more insightful and might know a broader range of draftees in allot more detail.

How is Mitchell at 64 laughable? He has barely played this year and doesnt have much exposed form, he could easily go late. BF has hyped him a fair bit and by no means is he a sure thing to be selected in the top 40.

With that said I'd be tempted at 34 and 42 for Carlton depending on the first pick.

If we take Young when Parker is available, someone should be shot!

Young is underrated on these boards but I see what you are saying. Young had some great qualities and once he puts on some weight I can see him becoming a very valuable player.

He is level headed and has a great work ethic, very coachable.

I dont mind Daffeys draft it is different i think the choice of Von Bertouch could be a masterstroke as SA often try to hide one or two and he is an impressive type.
In saying that i think there are better phantoms on big footy especially Snoops but i do believe it is Daffeys first he will get better.

The draft actually wasn't aweful. I think he might get a few a little wrong early. But just the criticism on his draft is that he kept it pretty brief and didn't give much detail on what he has heard from clubs or potential destinations which could be improved next time around.

The thing that was disappointing was the afl.com chat. Maybe the pressure got to him? A few unfortunate responses in any case.

On espn over the nba offseason break they had an all day offseason chat feature going with multiple commentators responding to user questions. While the afl draft and trade week don't get that same following I would like to see this feature improved to an extent with a couple of different talent scouts hired by afl.com/ other sites to give their views. Just never quite has enough detail for my liking.
