Paul Daffy Mock Here

Would love Colin Wisbey to do this. Not in the drafting practice anymore from what I hear and now studying game plans and strategy, but would really like him to become the new afl.com Burgatron. Would be much more insightful and might know a broader range of draftees in allot more detail.

Some of Col's apprasials of Collingwood draftees..

- thomas - ranked 17 in 2005 draft
- pendles - unranked in 2005 draft.
- sidebottom - ranked 24 in 2008 draft.
- beams - not ranked in top 40 in 2008 draft.
- reid - not ranked in top 40 in 2007 draft.
- nate - not ranked in top 40 in 2007 draft.
- dawes - not ranked in top 40 in 2007 draft.

There is a reason why he isn't in the recruiting game anymore.

i quite like that Daffy hasn't overtly given much away. Will make the coverage tomorrow night more exciting.

Wouldn't be surprised if Fox nudged afl.com.au to NOT give too much away.

Surprising to see Quigley give Daffy a bit of stick considering how outrageous his own draft was.

People do their own drafts for their own reasons.

All are good.

I wasn't around in his time having only discovered this site in 09. But have found some of his work and even with his rankings while sometimes a little way off, the detail of every tendency of a player is fantastic.

He could design a phantom draft based still on what he expects clubs to do. But at the same time he could give us allot more insight into the players he expects to go at each selection rather than the minimalist approach we have seen this year.

I much preferred the Burgatron. He always had "inside information".....did you get yours from Big Footy? Wednesday November 17, 2010 2:37 geoff

Paul Daffey:
Hi Geoff,

I've got inside info as well. I just need a catchy name.

whoever said this, gold :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Yeah that was me guys! :p:thumbsu:

I just thought it was lazy and lacklustre to be honest. Thought it lacked detail and offered little. Burga may make mistakes but he wasn't lazy and busted his butt to get info. Daffey needs to get off Youtube and do some research.

Where the heck is Andreoli? If he falls to our 54 I will be laughing for a month. There's not that many mids with footspeed so he'd have to go top 40. We'd surely take him or Chalwell with our last pick.

Also prefer Isaac to Smedts but we'll see what happens tomorrow I spose.

Although Mitchell this low will the dearth of quality talls in this draft probably tells me Daffey doesn't know his stuff as well as Burgatron yet :D

The draft actually wasn't aweful. I think he might get a few a little wrong early. But just the criticism on his draft is that he kept it pretty brief and didn't give much detail on what he has heard from clubs or potential destinations which could be improved next time around.

That is my Biggest Compaint is the Lack of Info he gave about each pick and who could go there

On espn over the nba offseason break they had an all day offseason chat feature going with multiple commentators responding to user questions. While the afl draft and trade week don't get that same following I would like to see this feature improved to an extent with a couple of different talent scouts hired by afl.com/ other sites to give their views. Just never quite has enough detail for my liking.

Doubt this would happen as the AFL recuriters are not as Open as the NBA ones

Interesting that people are bemoaning the lack of inside goss in Daffy's draft, yet when he leaves a top rated guy out completely , people moan about that too.

Ever stopped to think he might have inside mail on Andreoli.

Or maybe there isn't much more inside mail than he's giving.

Or ...........

It's his mock, with as much inside info as he's got, or is willing or allowed to put in it in black and white terms.

You might want to check those again, especially Pendlebury & Brown.

You mean he hasn't followed Big Footy opinion which in almost all cases year after year gets no where near the actual draft result.

Do you sorta think you might over rate the BF phantom drafts just a little?

spot on.

Yet another thread where people think an opinion is wrong, because it's not like the BigFooty echo chamber

The type of thing I'd like to see is 2-3 experts online for a couple of hours to answer questions rather than just one hour with limited questions answered.

Certainly doesn't need to be anywhere extensive, but I certainly think there is enough demand for it for both trade week + draft.

I actually really enjoyed his draft. One thing I wasn't impressed with was he didn't give much Inside information at all.

Gaff, Darling and Ugle would be bloody awesome:thumbsu:

His descriptive work was nothing short of outstanding in terms of player type, strengths/weaknesses and comparisons to current players. Over a few drafts it was evident that his judgement wasn't his strongest point nor his ability to judge the scope for improvement but his ability to help the reader visualise the type of player was just brilliant. No-one has come close to reaching his level since. Certainly carved himself out a career from his work and great to see him get rewarded.

Lets see how accurate it is before we bag it too heavily. I found it interesting that he said the Cats wouldnt pick up Smith at 15.

He defiantly hasnt followed popular opinion, only time will tell if he is right nor not.

I meant it as a complement that he hasnt followed popular opinion. I thought it was pretty clear that i thought what people were saying was at least a bit harsh. Sorry for any confusion.

Nah no need to apologise - crystal clear what you meant - just two muppets who cant read and comprehend it seems :thumbsu:

Good way to misrepresent a person.

Wisbey's ratings are his opinion/rankings of players - Not where he thinks clubs will draft the players.

A bit like Knighmares second draft.

People are being unfair to Daffey.

You are comparing Daffey to Matthew Burgan who was in the job for over 10 years, and therefore had loads of experience, knowledge, contacts, the ability to follow players for 2 or 3 years etc, etc, etc.

Finally, we dont know when Daffey started his new role

Give Daffey another year or two to fall into his role.

Not knowing who Michael Hutchinson is was inexcusable as it means he didn't watch the u18 championships. Then to get Joel Wilkinson's name wrong, when if he'd been at the draft combine he would have known exactly who he was. And not having a clue who Warrick Andreoli is.

This is his full time job, you would expect better than this pathetic lack of basic knowledge.

Yes. I find some of his work hugely relevant even now.

Recently found his piece on Dayne Beams. He rated him on the low end, but that didn't matter because he had all his tendencies and all his details down. Just a fantastic effort and completely agree with this.

It was great because it really allows you to form an opinion gives you such a detailed insight into everything about a player. Truely fantastic. It's really quite shocking that he has some haters around here, because his work is by far and away the best i've seen.

lol at everyone bagging him for not having Andreoli in his mock... guess he does know more than you give him credit for :p
I have to admit I had that wrong. I still think not knowing Michael Hutchinson was pretty unforgivable.
