Unless I am missing something, I would very much doubt that he would come on on min wage... I even more strongly doubt he will be rookied.

I expect that he will have been in discussions with GWS, who have offered him a reasonable 1 year contract (a la Power, Brogan, etc) to help protect the kids.

There is no way we (or anyone) will get him as a rookie on rookie salary.

Yes, I would love to see him back but HWS is the missing link..

Why?

Meds isn't in a position to bargain, 12 months out of the game, wrong side of 30?

If you've got nothing to prove you go to GWS or G/C. He still has a lot to prove, inconsistent last year, walked away from the game etc. If he wants another crack, its not because of the money and it certainly won't be as a mentor to young inexperienced players.

Any chance that its actually Bucks that may have sounded him out to see where his head is at.....?

I would have thought a big part of the reason as to why he walked away initially was because he was disillusioned from playing a lot in the reserves. He certainly won't sign on to a contract for which he will have to play at least half the season in the reserves (and on a base pay of around 45k). He seems to be more of an 'ego' driven player to me, and would therefore prefer to retire than suffer the indignation of playing reserves football on base pay. I can't see it.

We have the next Medders in Elliot anyway. WOn't play this year, but beyond.

Ego driven? I think that you've misread him completely.

However, I do think he's an instinctive footballer and he's going to find it hard if the coach is telling him to hit the boundary when Paul can see a better option. If Bucks wants a tight game plan, with not much individual creativity, then I would definitely not take him

I can't see the point in rookie listing a player like Medhurst. If his body is right he's best 22 if not he's not worth a rookie spot. He won't get any less injured now. If he's sound I'd draft him in the ND and try and get him right for the pre season games. He needs senior footy to play senior footy. The VFL won't do anything more than dull his touch and instincts. We have to draft someone down the pecking order in a reputedly weak draft so it may as well be a bloke that could kick 6 goals in a GF on a good day as a project player that would be better suited to a rookie spot.

Let me say this, Paul is not coming back to play footy for the money, he comes from a very wealthy family, ego maybe, unfinished business definately.

My problem with Medhurst at Collingwood is this. He has played all of his best football as a small full forward. His All Australian year for Collingwood was in that role and his best years at Freo too. Unfortunately he is not going to be playing that role with the space and freedom required at Collingwood next year and at 31 I don't know he's going to have the time to 'develop' into anything else.

He played a lot of good games for us drifting in and out of the forward line, but yeah, he'd have to be playing well from the start of the year to have much of an impact. Also he turns 30 in December, not 31.

Was my favourite player at the Pies a few years back, really disappointed he just gave up but looks like he is regretting that decision.

/Captain Obvious.

If that was the case he would play for Collingwood again and he would play for a very cheap amount, make no mistake he is cashing in. Can a footy player truely have enough money?

I am not so sure that it is all about money for Medhurst.

He was left in the reserves to languish which wasn't his fault.
Malthouse admitted to leaving him in the reserves too long.

Medhurst is into Buddhism and believes in the spiritualism aspect of life,so apparently he took the year off went to study Buddhism, and now he is back ready to go or to give footy one more go.

Apparently there was a strong rumour that when Medhurst left collingwood,he invited all the players to his place and said please take all these possesions i have in my apartment,i don't need any of these things any more................He then said goodbye to all and left for overseas.

So whoever recruits him will get great value,if his minds right and his body is good he will do well.So money is really seondary to Medhurst!
