In 2008 showed great form kicking 50 goals (Winning Collingwood's Goal kicking) And getting a spot in the all Australian side. In 2009 missing 6 games and only playing 16 games and kicking 21 goals, That's not that good considering he is one of Collingwood's best forwards. What has he got to offer in 2010?:confused::confused:

Well I think he was Injured most of Last Season, If he stays Injury Free he should become good again, Maybe not AA but a guy who could kick up to 40 Goals

he will kick 40+ goals next year. he was ok towards the end of the year with his tackling pressue but he wasnt kicking goals or setting them up. he will be fit in 2010 hopefully and return to form. we need him, he adds a different dimension to didak, davis, thomas etc.

i reckon the ankle injury was a bit more sreious then we were led to believe, didnt really recover from it and missed a heap of work because of it as well, should be flying next year, skys the limit IMO.

Medders is, as has been mentioned, a key piece of any success next year.
When he is on, whether kicking goals or setting them up we are a 10% better side.

I pray he has an injury free year.

Medders suffered on 2 fronts last year, injury and he seemed to lose that licence to be a bit selfish and damaging, players like him need to be given the freedom to be damaging and sometimes it may not come off but when it does you have yourselves a match winner.

A player playing injured and trying to do all the team things 100% will often look to have minimal impact, If Medders can get 100% fit and be given the freedom he had in 08 he will return to that form no doubt about it.

Hit the nail on the head - he was trying to do the team thing too often and even with that he failed. Just have a go son!

The last time we saw the "real" Medhurst was the Brisbane game at the Gabba early in the year. The one where he was knocked out, but still came back on to kick the most important goal of the match, then wobbled off asking "where the **** am I".

I think it was either the next week or 2 weeks later he did his ankle against North, and he never fully recovered from that injury, depsite missing about 8 weeks.

A fit and firing Medhurst will make our forward line look so much more dangerous, as at times in 2008 and early 2009 he was actually taking the best defender away from the likes of Anthony or Cloke.

We need a fit Medders to be a premiership threat.:)

Do the medicos have something to answer for with Medders? From memory they gave him a shot and put him back out there - It may count for why he was off for so long

i dont think so, its hard to put a finger on what happened really, if it was a bad sprain it wouldve blown up str8 away and no way he'd of went back out, i doubt very much he tore any ligaments either, a broken bone perhaps ? i think thats unlikely and we wouldve been told, having done ankles my self (one ripper where i was on crutches for 12 mnts, i didnt even break it either and no snaped ligaments, i ruptured an artery, not good), back to medhurst, im thinking it was a grade 2 sprain (on the lower end of grade 2) so probably 3/4 weeks out on average, maybe it didnt blow up and him going back out contributed to the rest of the time he missed, who knows ? hard to blame the quacks though.

possibly he needed a few weeks to get back to full fitness after the injury healed as well.

Did anyone read the article in the age yesterday about the book written by some Journo who spent all of the 09 seasong and pre-season with the pies? In one paragraph it mentioned how the coaching staff freeze the play and ask the players "what were you thinking during this paly?". It then had a quote from Medhurst saying how much he hated that because he's an instinct player, he said Geelong play with instinct and that's how it's supposed to look. Just thought i'd mention it because it was an interesting article.
With all that said I think he will be fine with a fit body. He would rely on his ankle more than most players in our team due to his jumping ability and lateral movements.

i did notice after the injury he stopped breaking tackles which is a big part of his game, it would be hard on the ankles as well.

Does not surprise me, Because MM like Structures and does not Trust players to play with Instinct Players like Medders

That's completely false Dave. Completely. Malthouse encourages players to use their natural flair and ability.

Then why is Medders Complains about that he can't?

He is probably still the best foward on our list. I hope that it was just an inability to get physically right and in the game and build up form and momentum.

I am a shade worried though, on the basis that while last season was a career best for Medhurst he had played some pretty good seasons for Freo when playing as the small focal point FF. I hope that he can adjust and play the HFF role he looked promosing in before Rocca went down last year.

I hope Medhurst can get back to his 2008 form. I'm a skeptic of the injury excuse though. Even if he was carrying something his performace after coming back was fairly poor.

If we want to win the Premiership next year we need Medhurst to play at his best again.

I don't agree with this, because I've read a few articles with players like Medders, Daisy & Harry where they've said that MM has told them to back their instinct & take the game on. MM likes a structured gameplan, but from what I've read, he gives the players license to do what they think is right in the circumstances.

Key player should never have been dropped did not kick a lot of goals last year but set a hell of a lot up when Medhurst get his hands on the ball withing 70 of goal we generally have a shot on goal is an excellent pass to a leading forward
