Definately a Carlton hater.

Stemming back to pre-season 2008, when he came out in the media and declared that we threw games in late 2007 to get Kreuzer.

It turns out we threw games that season in order to get Chris Judd so Roos was right, from a certain point of view.

It's a bit hypocritical trying to turn the spotlight onto us when the guy has been caught red handed trying to lose games himself though.

I'd rather bring back brittain or pagan. The enjoyment i get from watching footy is a fraction of what it was even 10 years ago. Ever since the AFL started really softening our sport (probably around the time they targeted the melee), the hands in the back, overprotecting the head so much that players dive in head first to get the free, close to eliminating the hip and shoulder. I watch blues games but that's pretty much it these days (i can't believe how much i sound like my grandpa).

Bringing roos and his painful (to watch) gameplan would probably be the end of my membership days. I couldn't bare to watch players like yarran, garlett, etc playing roos' rugby style football.

Then forget his wife. I'm sure Jeanne Pratt in appropriate lingerie would be enough to entice any red-blooded man south of the border.

Think that's offensive in more ways than I had planned.

Oh dude.........

The thing that appeals about Roos though is that his forthright manner would suggest he wouldn't be averse to making the hard calls, nor would he need to justify himself to the board and members, like Ratten has to. And despite how ugly the Swans gameplan was, he got the ultimate results. I'd be happy if we only kicked 10 goals a game, if we restricted our opponents to 5 or 6

Why do people think Roos would implement the same game plan at Carlton that he had at the Swans?

Roos mentioned nothing had changed in regard to Judd being smashed/getting the hard ball all the time.

I'm sure our coaching staff said Judd would be spending more time forward this year?

Its not about Roos as coach, its about what he said about us. What he said is exactly correct. It seems some people are in denial and don't like the truth. And it is why we could not win this game given the circumstances presented!

Nothing has...Gibbs at least tried in the first half to put himself between Judd & Hocking, but wasn't really a threatening display. Judd was the still the last man up off the deck at pretty wll every stoppage.

Agree.. in fact I think he'd have a different game-plan... look at the market Roos had to deal with... he knew to keep members and Sydney supporters interested he had to create a game plan that would give them wins as well as appease a rugby based state into understanding the game better... as well as work with his list filled with discarded players that needed the sort of disciplined, rigid game-style he implemented.

With the Carlton list and our supporters not being super-bandwagoner and being a Victorian club understanding the game he'd gear his gameplan to suit the list we have as well as appease the members.

Not saying I want him as coach and I'm not calling for Ratten's head, but a good coach is one that can adjust to his circumstances and get the best out of what he's got... and I think Roos has the brains and savy to do that...

Geelong, I mean Essendon aren't playing the same way with Thompson and McCartney setting up a structure that suits their midfield. The Scum go wide and play the boundary line. The Cats could take it through the middle because they had Ablett, Selwood, Corey, Ling, Chapman, Bartel, etc. rotating through there. The next coach would have to come up with a game plan that suits our mids who are better in space.

Roos tipped Carlton to beat Essendon in the Hun on Friday - he can't be all that bad.

Maybe he hates Essendon more than Carlton.:D

So Roos doesnt want to sit in the cheer squad with half the posters on here ??
BIG DEAL !!!
Whether its Roos or the man on the moon Carlton need an elite coach .
Roos would coach the list he takes over , in Sydney he coached what he had ,
At Carlton or anywhere else he would do the same .

Should we feel the need to replace Ratts at the end of the season, i'd be looking at Alan Richardson or Brendan McCartney. Both very highly rated assistants, and have come from successful stints at both Collingwood & Geelong.

Paul Roos will never leave Sydney. You can just hear it in his voice how passionate he is even about the academy up there.

Mate, you deserve a card for that one...

I actually think the coaching has improved out of sight this year. Brown and Richo in the box and Ratts on the boundary seems to work.

Can't blame coaches if players fail to follow instructions, which I suspect was responsible for a lot of the bombing long to the goal square on Saturday.

I found the problem on Saturday was no one sitting deep enough, especially early on. Waite and Hampson seemed intent on sitting 40 out and playing from behind, leaving Cale Hooker to lob in front as he pleased and look an absolute world beater.

It would seem to me a very simple thing to push Hampson deep into the goal square where if nothing else he makes Betts and Garlett dangerous at the drop of the ball, and we would stop kicking to contests 50 out from goal.

Maybe coaching is just too complex for a simple man like me to understand now, but in a positional sense we can still look pretty amateur hour at times.

Starry????? Where art thou????

I was at the SCG when the players surrounded Roos in their final match there at the end of 2002 and chanted "Roos, Roos, Roos, Roos"

That was one of the most remarkable things I've seen in professional sport.

Given that he commands such loyalty and his knowledge of his players and the game enabled him to exact so much success from the club, why the hell wouldn't he be in the mix?

I love that Ratts re-instilled the Carlton pride, but I'm starting to think someone like Roos or Malthouse might get more from our list.

Yes I agree Ratten wont get us a flag with the coaching skills he has. We have a very good list. We now need a good coach. Roos would be great for the blues

There is no doubt that he is a quality coach. If he is in fact able to change his strategy to accommodate the list we have, and he is on board 110%, then I would give him a shot.
