I think that was a mistake; you basically made Pav Captain in the hope that it would stop him leaving.

And what has Adelaide except choking in September. You've done better than Freo but have really been very underwhelming in September.

Pav is our best player and Bell is most probably our best leader. It makes sense that Pav gets to benefit from a handover with Bell. Pav should be captain. No doubt.

In case you havent noticed Pavlich is in the top 5 players in the comp. You dont get a player like that unless you give up something for him, Nathan Krakour is no good, wont amount to anything, be lucky to be on your list in 3 years time, too lightly framed. Cassissi is an average player, nothing special about him.

We would want your 1st round pick + 3rd Round Pick + one of Gray/Salopek/Pearce

I'd do that. You're under-rating Krakouer tho. Pearce wasn't much bigger than him when he started out and Krak's already put on 5-6kg. He'd be my natural replacement for Pearce in the side.

Throwing in names like Cassisi and Pettigrew is pointless.

The eight long years bit didn't sound very good. If Pav believes that Freo will go places in the next three years he will stay. If he loses that belief he will go. I wouldn't blame him. So if the players and the club want Pav to stay they need to show him that this belief is justified and not just some perennial mirage. If CC goes then we gotta get Sheedy, I'm not sure he'd stick around for Suma or Mark Harvey etc.

Tony, take a listen to the full interview on the FFC website - the 'eight long years' comment was in response to a question along the lines of 'when are you going to commit to Fremantle'. Pav responded that he has been committed for eight long years - I took that to mean that he is already committed and has shown that commitment over a long period of time. But maybe I had my rosy glasses on?

I think a lot of people overrate pearce as well to be truthful FF. Good player no doubt but he has plenty of deficencies and goes missing way to much. That may be something to do with him being young still, but is a worry none the less.
Gray i'm not sold on, cant make ana ssesment on a kid after two or three games. Krakouer the same, not that a first year player would be traded anyway. Salopek would be nice, but aint gonna happen.

Seriously tho, we as supporters are not going to agree on a value, there's too much personal attachment to players on either side. I was responding to 1 suggestion - that yeah, I would take that deal. But if he decides to leave - and that's a long way from being decided - then the clubs could nut out some monster agreement that will probably take til 1.55pm on the Friday of trade week to sign off.

I mean there has to be some respect here for Freo's position - Pav is one of the top 5 players in the competition and Port and Adelaide must think he's worth a premiership if they get him. So he's going to cost, and there's going to be pain involved. It comes down to how much pain you can bear.

For the Crows did you mean? You obviously have not had much to do with Van Berlo. A top young footballer with quality and something very rare in fotballers...brains. People in Adelaide rate him as captain material so I don't think he'll be in the deal. The thing you guys at Freo need to be concerned about is the "free agent rule" that Benny GAle has been speaking about! After a certain number of year's service to a club the player can walk....and one of their models suggests that it would be for nothing!!

The Free Agency this is about 2 years away still mate, not something we need to be worried about just at this point.

Crows ruckman Jon Griffin is out of contract at the end of the year - 21 years old, 202 cm. Wouldn't be surprised if he was involved in a deal for Pav. Played 13 games this season as backup ruckman, gone forward as well and bagged a few goals. Crows have plenty of ruck stocks - Hudson, Meeson, Maric, Tippet, Sellar and Biglands back next year so wouldn't lose too much if he went home to WA. How are the ruck stocks at Freo?

That's nonsense, as if Pav would go home because a handful of people were speculating about his future on an internet forum. If Pav goes home it will be because 3 of the last 4 seasons have been a massive underachievement, and he's had enough. Why would he want to play for a club that only wins half of it's games with a superb list?

If Pav jumps ship, then we owe him nothing. If we can getter a better trade deal from a Vic team, then we should reach an agreement and Pav can pack his bags for Victoria.

Freo needs to be ruthless here. It seems that Carlton (looking to off load Fev) would be a natural fit for any trade agreement (or at least a party to any three way trade deal).

A player has to sign off on who he is traded to. That's why our senior players called Tarrant, because initially he only wanted to play for West Coast.

If we tried to trade Pav to Carlton as you suggest, he'd say get stuffed, I'm off to the tigers through the draft and we get nothing.

Pav is a smart guy. He knows that the Pre-season draft option means a one way ticket to mediocrity at Richmond (lets see how close he is to premiership glory with the Tigers). Pav knows this, so he will avoid the PSD with all costs.

But if necessary, FFC should let Pav slip into the PSD rather than allow us to get fleeced by a SA club. This would teach Pav a lesson. But it would also send an important signal to other young players coming out of contract (like Warnock who may get homesick down the track): If you betray FFC, then FFC will show you how ruthless it can be.

Pav could sign a one year deal with richmond, and then be traded from the tigers to the crows at the end of 2008.

Pavlich doesn't decide on the trade deal. If he announces he wants to play for the crows prior to trade week (like Akermanis did with the bulldogs last year) we will either lose him for nothing or do a deal with the crows. I'd certainly prefer the latter option.

If Pav was traded for VanBerlo and their first round pick it would be the deal of the century from a crows point of view. A pick between 10 and 16 in a mediocre draft is 50/50 at best to net you a very good player. So the crows would essentially be trading their 3rd or 4th best midfielder for one of the best players in the competition.

If it is VanBerlo + a first round pick then that pick will have to come from another club and be in the top 3 or 4.

Sorry - twas a serious question. I know you've got the man mountain Sandlinands and another giant in Warnock, but not sure who else besides Longmuir and I don't expect you'll see much more out of him.

As far as I know Crows have never had a top 5 pick and only top 10 ones that come to mind are Angwin and Meeson, so you'd be looking at pretty complex 3-way trade to get that going.

I dont know how to say this without getting an acetylene spray from the Pav zealots.

While I think he is nearly as good a player as he gets credit for he is not as important to our team as most think.

Currently our team does not play as team. I've watched him and his 'your to blame' looks he gives his team mates on many occasions which make me cringe. He isn't all that great as a team player.

I'd like him to stay another couple of years because weather anyone admits it or not, he is a Captain on 'abilty' in '07' not on maturity. Once he matures a bit more he will be more of an asset than he already is.

In the mean time if he leaves I wouldn't lose any sleep.

No the player doesn't have to sign off, however there is a gentlemens agreement you don't trade players without them agreeing to it. Someone from Essendon got traded and he was none the wiser until afterwards, was in contract too.

No probs, we wouldnt want a ruck as part of the deal, we can draft a young'un or WAFL ruck as backup. We seriously need fast midfielders so thats the minimum requirement in my mind anyway.

I think a Masten and Palmer be good, Crotchin be gone unless we get a top 3. They'll be top 6. So will be difficult but Pav is worth it .
