Pav rumour

Wasn't Gehrig getting booed by his own fans and even reported to be getting hate mail? I seem to recall hearing something like that, or is that just some anti-eagle propaganda my twisted mind has created?

Pav's idolised by us Freo folk and I'm sure the majority still have every faith that he's staying. It is fun to watch how excited Port and Crows fans are getting though.

I don't think there's any danger of Pav ever being run out of town. Although if all this talk bothers him there's a simple way for him to make it stop.

A player who was sharing a house with him came out and said that he couldn't go anywhere without getting abuse and jibes from weagles fans.It amazes me that malthouse was partly to blame playing him injured(shin problem I think)and didn't back him up just said nothing even after he left.

No the player doesn't have to sign off, however there is a gentlemens agreement you don't trade players without them agreeing to it. Someone from Essendon got traded and he was none the wiser until afterwards, was in contract too.
But Pavlich is different! He is out of contract at the end of the year. No club would trade for him unless he is prepared to go to them. You trade him to say Carlton. He doesn't want to play for Carlton. His contract expires after the trade week on Oct 31. He say I am not playing for Carlton and I am going into the PSD. Carlton sell the farm to get him and he walks away.

Its different when a player is in the middle of his contract. You could do what you are suggesting. But when he is out of contract he does have a say in where he ends up. He would have to agree to go to that club before that club would pull the trigger on the trade. Otherwise they are trading a lot for a 2-3 week rental.

I don't think this scenario would be possible. Pav would need to sign a contract with Carlton before the deal was okayed by the AFL otherwise things like this would happen all the time. If he isn't traded to Adelaide or Port the only way he'll be leaving is via the PSD.

Of course. Pav's such an average player how dare we expect to get some decent players in return.

Maybe you should have drafted Pav when you had the chance.

are you saying josh carr is an average player cause we got jack all for him!!

all i can say after reading the posts on this thread is that you freo people are going to be very very disapointed IF he decides to come home.:D

its funny to see alot of you freo people talk about the possibility of him wanting to come home as such a discusting thing, funny that this wasnt an isue when josh went home.

Oh please!! Lets not even compare the results of the two clubs in their history because you would come well shot.

And if you are going to have cheap shots regarding september at our expense, well at least we still make it into september. I guess we choke in september while you do it from april all the way to september.
Oh please!!

So I guess Freo has no chance ever of winning a premiership? Freo are just as close as Adelaide. The current Adelaide team has lacked the killer instinct in September.

At least you admit your team chokes (and I think by inference isn't near a premiership currently). I didn't bring up the "does he want to win the premiership?" line, an Adelaide supporter did.

You got a first, second and third round pick. Not our fault if you didn't use the picks wisely.

We gave you an entire years worth of draft picks. And Josh may be good but he's no Pav. Not many players are.

He's our captain. Our marque player. A genuine superstar of the competition and the greatest player our club has ever had. And you think we might be disappointed if he wants to leave? Thankyou Captain Obvious.

I couldn't care less if Pav stays. A player does not make a team. As long as we get due compensation for him leaving.

In saying that i hope he stays. There are other players who i would prefer to leave so we can get our hands on the talented WA youngsters. I really feel we should target this draft to reassemble our midfield.

rguaci I'm with you, While I love Pav if he does go there is no doubt Freo will get something very good in return. Get our hands on Matsen, Palmer or Morton and things don't look as bad. Mind you, obviously no Freo fan wants to lose him but it's not like we will get ripped off.

Anyway in saying that, the guy will stay.

Im sick of all these rumours flying around about Pav being unhappy here, he doesnt like CC, he doesnt get on with the players etc etc... All of this is because he hasnt signed a contract which he has said numerous times he wont look at until the end of the year. Im no expert by any means but id say until we play our last game of the year whether that be in round 22 or sometime in the finals Pav will not sign until then.

What annoys me the most about this whole thing is the eagles driven media havent said one dam word about Judd not signing yet. He must be having problems with John Worsfold and his teammates, must be homesick. FFS how many slow news days do we need for those idiots in the media to stop running the story.

Thats my rant anyway...

Look at the ladder. We are currently in much better position than you lot. You wanted to take a very cheap shot here and I am sorry but give me Adelaide's results and prospect over yours any day of the week and twice on sunday!

At least we have been consistent finals side over our history and especially in the last 6-7 years while you have been participants in finals for only 2 years in your history and don't even look close to it this year despite being one of the premiership favourites at the start fo the year.

We have been demolished by injuries all season long but are still in top 4 contention!

Are you the same rgauci who 4 days ago was saying we've already got the cattle in our midfield???

(8/7/07) All it takes is someone like Headland to actually pull the finger out and become elite. Paul Hasleby to dig deep and give up the puddings and icecream snacks. A youngster like Collard, Foster, Ibbotson, Dunn to take big steps forward. Schammer isn't far off moving up the ranks.

The cattle is there.

Are you now admitting that our midfield doesn't have the cattle?

The Pav won't leave freo.He seems a dedicated player, and also has a few big business interests in W.A.
He won't sacrifice that to go back to adelaide.
Freo's team is a strong group all they need is a tough disciplined coach, and they'll be back on track again.

Carey has buisness interests in adelaide - yet lives in melbourne

HAHAHAHA!!!

I'm a Port Adelaide supporter and even I found this laughable.
Are you a genius that would have laughed at a Brisbane Bears supporter if they said the same when Buckley left "to win premierships"?

Look how many premierships he won.

The league is too tempremental. Its not like the EPL where 4 clubs can win it every year. Geelong was crap last year, priemership this year? Pav risks the same if he leaves to win "premierships".

what i meant is that you are going to be dissapointed with what you get for him because some people on here seem to think pav is gona pull 5 of a teams best players plus all the draft pick. it jus isnt gona happen.

What Port and Cows fans need to realise is that its Pav not a depth player. Look at what Hay, Thompson and Carr were traded for. It will cost around a couple top 10 picks and a decent player.

WE HAVE THE CATTLE. There is no reason a midfield consisting of Peter Bell, Josh Carr, Paul Hasleby, Heath Black, Des Headland, Brett Peake, Matt Carr, Ryan Crowley, Byron Schammer, Shaun McManus etc couldn't be premiership material.

You've taken my original comment out of context. IF Pavlich leaves, we have a plethora of tall forward options ready to fill his place. Obviously they don't have the same talent as him but someone could stand his position and contribute.

Just saying, by him leaving we could easily reassemble the midfield in 1 or 2 seasons.

OK to paraphrase the MIDFIELD has been substandard this year. If the players took responsibility, there is no reason the same group couldn't lead us to a flag next year. BUT if Pavlich was to leave, it would be an ideal time (WA under 18's have a strong midfield) to reassemble a fresh looking midfield.

It takes a decade to build a spine. It takes 2 seasons (if that) to build a midfield. Look at Geelong and Collingwood who were both considered to have average midfields heading into the year.

All it takes is someone like Headland to actually pull the finger out and become elite. Paul Hasleby to dig deep and give up the puddings and icecream snacks. A youngster like Collard, Foster, Ibbotson, Dunn to take big steps forward. Schammer isn't far off moving up the ranks.

Oh please, Headland and Hase have been that ordinary this year have they, that all it would take is for the two of them to step up a little? I wish that were true, but I can't see it myself.

So your saying what we've seen this year is the best we can hope from these two. I remember after the first 11 games of 2003 Hasleby was equal favourite with Judd for the brownlow.

Gary Ablett junior was good without being great until this year. This year he's moved onto the ball by getting his fitness to the appropriate level and he's the brownlow favourite. I'm hopeful Headland can step it up another level.

Schammer was touted as having the biggest preseason and was set for a massive year before getting appendicitis. He's still a youngster who i've got big hopes for.

Crowley has gone backwards, probably due to the fact he missed preseason. Peake's been injured. Cookie who was part of the 9 game drive has shown he is passed his used by date.

A lot of things have gone wrong this year. Just pointing out that midfields are relatively easy to reassemble.

You obviously have not had much to do with Pavlich. Probably the 2nd best footballer in the entire league - with extraordinary quality and something very rare in footballers...brains. And believe it or not people in Freo actually rate him as captain material too.

We're not talking about trading for some Johnny Average here. Make no mistake, if you want Pav you better be prepared to give up some quality.
You misinterpreted my comment. My comment was cocerning the negative criticism about van Berlo. Many of the Freo posters have ridiculed van Berlo as being part of any trade. My point was to just show the qualities of van Berlo as a person and footballer.
As for having not having had much to do with Pavlich I have followed and seen his progress through the grades from his junior days. I acknowledge his brains and his dynamic personal qualities.

Incredible as it may seem in Collingwood but you don't have to live in a city to have business interests there. I have friends who have business interests in Roxby Downs and Kalgoorlie but live in Adelaide!! That would not be a major consideration of his decision.

Fair enough. But you did say that VB was rated very highly in Adelaide and therefore wouldn't be part of any deal. My point was Pav is in the very top echelon of AFL players and you're going to have to give up something you rate very highly to get him.

I'm sure you do know plenty about Pav - it was just a comment on your description of VB. Pav is all that and much, much more.
