Pav rumour

What Port and Cows fans need to realise is that its Pav not a depth player. Look at what Hay, Thompson and Carr were traded for. It will cost around a couple top 10 picks and a decent player.[/quote]

Have a look what a few of the very good players were traded for when they wanted to change clubs. I have included a few of your Freo boys as well. You might be able to help out with a few of the trades that went from Fremantle back home.

Tyson Stenglein for example: 1998 National AFL Draft 2nd round selection (Adelaide) No. 29 overall on-traded by Melbourne to Fremantle for Tony Modra; National Bank's 2004 AFL Draft traded by Adelaide for No. 12 (Danny Meyer) and No. 28 (Chad Gibson). So Crows traded a fading superstar Tony Modra to Fremantle for Pick 29. They then traded Tyson to West Coast for picks 12 and 28. Pretty generous I would think. What happened to the pick 12?

Kane Johnson: 1995 National AFL Draft 2nd round selection Adelaide) No. 27 overall traded by Melbourne for Anthony Ingerson; 2002 National AFL Draft selection traded by Adelaide for Jason Torney, No. 2 (Daniel Wells), No. 18 (Kris Shore) and No. 32 (Luke Jericho). Can follow the initial trade at Pick 27. The trade to Richmond is a bit confusing.

Josh Carr: 1998 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Port Adelaide) No. 7 overall; 2004 NAB AFL Draft traded by Port Adelaide for No. 11 (Adam Thomson), No. 27 (Pat Garner) and No. 45 (Justin Sherman).

Peter Bell: Recruited to Fremantle as a pre-draft selection; 1996 Pre-Season Draft 1st round selection (Kangaroos) No. 15 overall; 2000 National AFL Draft traded by Kangaroos for Jess Sinclair, No. 6 (Dylan Smith) and No. 37 (Guy Richards).

Jeff Farmer:1994 National AFL Draft traded by Fremantle for Phil Gilbert; 2001 National AFL Draft traded by Melbourne for No. 17 (James Kelly).

Des Headland:1998 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Brisbane) No. 1 overall; 2002 National AFL Draft traded by Brisbane for No. 3 (Jared Brennan) and No. 19 (Troy Selwood).

Heath Black:1996 National AFL Draft 1st round selection (Fremantle) No. 12 overall; 2001 National AFL Draft traded by Fremantle for No. 17 (James Kelly); 2004 NAB AFL Draft traded by St Kilda for Troy Simmonds.

I will add Jason Akermanis although not necessarily returning home:1994 National AFL Draft zone selection; 2006 NAB AFL Draft traded by Brisbane for No. 34 (Chris Schmidt)

Looking at the above trades I make the point that the trades seem fair and often draft picks alone have worked better than trading average-good players for these very good players. Fremantle have the opportunity to have the pick the eyes out of the U/18 champs this year. If Pav wants to come home I don't see that offering players will necessarily be the way to go. They have the opportunity to get home grown talent that could give their club plenty of 10 year players. Maybe one player and 2 top draft picks would be all they would want. Remember that if you trade for 5 players/picks you effectively have to delist 4 more of your own current stock.

Whatever happens whoever gets him is gonna pay through the nose. According to media reports Richmond have offered him $1 million a year to join via the Pre Season Draft.

Richmond sucks. PSD??? Oh FFS - Does that club know no bounds for it's bottom dwelling scum sucking activities??? Haven't you lot poached enough of our players in the past few years? Go pat Simmonds and Polak on the back and admire how pretty they look in black'n'yella and bloody well leave Pav alone.

To be fair, Polak hardly got much of a run before he left and Simmonds was second fiddle to Longmuir.

There's no "fair" where Richmond are concerned. I have always and will always dislike that club. Can't really say why - just hate 'em and always have and most likely always will. Like you and Port, D_B. Maybe because they claim Maurice Rioli as "one of theirs" - when he was only ever a South Freo champion on loan to their pathetic club.... that could be one reason. But Richmond are only second to the weagles in the "clubs to hate cos they suck" league.

I'm sorry Polly deserved to play late last year ? Simmonds played AFL - we gave him a career. Players should do the right thing with their clubs.

Pav to Richmond...oh come on!! If Pav wants success he aint going there is he - he misses a goal and the supporters wil spit on him !! If its money Freo could buy Richmonds ass every day of the week and twice on Sunday geez :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Former Crows captain says don't come home Pav
YOU OWE FREO

By Steve Butler and Mark Duffield
Adelaide

Excerpts:

Inaugural Adelaide captain Chris McDermott has made the shock declaration that Matthew Pavlich should stay in Perth to lead Fremantle out of the doldrums rather than return to his South Australian home.

...McDermott said the Fremantle skipper had a duty to play through at least one more contract ina bid to help them win their first AFL premiership.

...This week Pavlich again refused to reveal whether he would extend.... "His job's not done," McDermott said bluntly. "He's in the prime of his career and he's captain of the footy club, which means a hell of a lot more than if he was just a run-of-the-mill player. He's got a massive responsibility there. He accepted the job and with that comes responsibility.....

...I think he's got at least another contract to go. If he was 28 or 29 maybe, but not in his prime and I think he owes the footy club still."

...He likened Pavlich's situation to John Platten and Stephen Kernahan who were chased to play for the Crows.... "They never barracked for them and never played for them and I don't think Matthew's got any ties to them apart for maybe barracking for them as a kid. He's never played with any of these blokes and hasn't even played state footy with them, so there doesn't appear to be any kind of strong bond or mateship there."

..."There's something to be said for being a one-club player and certainly when you're at the heart and soul of the club... any bloke who's been a one club player feels that way. That's the dream to be a one-club player and win a premiership, and they are not without a chance in the next couple of years. If I were him I'd be thinking long and hard about making a rash decision to come home."

Goes onto say that Pav's manager denied the rumour that Pav would leave if CC stays and that there's no time-frame on formal negotiations but he speaks regularly with FFC.

I'm getting a little pissed off with Pav. He's our captain ffs! Act like one. If he wants to go home say so, if not sign the **** up! I just reckon its destabilising to the whole club from the players to the members. The weeks pathetic effort by him just causes more trouble than it hides.

If we need to go through this every 2-3ys then trade him give us a chance to rebuild around players that want to play for us, rather than all this wanting to go back to Adelaide at sometime comments and attempts to stall. It just looks like hes here under sufferance rather than the love for the purple - the bloody passion Pav where the **** is it ????

I'm going to be jumped on here but so be it, I reckon theres more of you out there that thinks this.

Rant over ;)

I understand where your coming from Freo Shark and I too get a little annoyed with the circus we have to put up with every time Pav comes out of contract. And it would be nice if he was a bit more absolute when asked about staying. But to be fair to him he has said numerous times that he's committed to Freo and that it's a matter of when the deal gets concluded. But of course the media are whipping everyone into a frenzy with their constant speculation and rumours.

In fact, this case is the perfect example for anyone who tries to deny that Freo are shafted by the local media in comparison to west coast. Judd has been as noncommittal as Pav about his future, probably more so. But where are the daily stories and constant questions and scaremongering from our brave journos about him leaving?

Pavlich clearly lacks passion. I don't remember hearing last year that so many of our young players were 'soft'. They are all following the example set by their lazy leader.

With Bell at the helm this did not occur, they appeared, at least to try. There was an urgency about the team which isn't there now.

So if Pavlich was serious about the team and not about himself, then he would have signed to ensure the stability of HIS team.

He didn't. When I look at him, my mind drifts to imagining him as a teenager sitting on a couch with his Mum, sisters (if he has any), Cousins and Aunts serving him a feast. Precious. Spoilt. Selfish.

If Pavlich goes can he please take Haselby with him. Why is everyone so dazzled by his 'statistics'. Please observe what he does with them. Also look for him when we are losing, he will be hiding with Pavlich.

Further, all we are proving by giving people like Gilmore and Walker their one millionth chance, is that players will get one. Players should play fearing and believing that it could be their last. Those two examples show that mediocrity will be tolerated.

Whatever coach we have next year, he better be hard.

Apart from a 9 week run we were inconsistent during Peter Bell's last 3 years as captain. Our current form has nothing to do with the fact that Pavlich is captain this year IMO.

Polak was given every opportunity plus some to show that he had the guts to perform. Th jury is still out on him at Richmond. He is supposed to be a KPP, but is in reality a spare man in defence. Happy to swap Simmonds for Black.

Yeah, we were inconsistent. But we were not fair-weathered. I used to believe in their ability/character to make a 'comeback'. Not now.

Their body language has changed. There isn't the same leadership shown at breaks.

Whats the deal with getting stuck into Pav? I know it's been a frustrating year but you're braking up the wrong tree there if you think that he's got anything to do with the averageness of our season.

What? He is Captain. If he isn't at least partially responsible then who is?

Former Crows captain says don't come home Pav
YOU OWE FREO

By Steve Butler and Mark Duffield
Adelaide

I too saw the headline in the gutter rag and bought it out of anger. I don't usually buy the paper, but I was wondering who is saying that Pav owes freo, and why is he saying it.

I read the article and agree in parts and disagree in others. Probably mostly agree though. Really McDermotts opinion is his opinion and what he says is nothing new or revolutionary.

What sh*ts me is that this is the headline on the back page when really the 'story' is a guys opinion and probably only worthy of 2 or 3 pages in, IMO. But then any actual news that is sport related that could be a headline, such as Aus V Iraq yesterday or Saints V Adel would not have interested me enough to buy the paper. So the stupid headline worked, it sold me and I suspect lots of others. And that is what the worst does, sell papers.

I believe Pav when he says his contract will get resolved when it gets resolved and I think he will stay with the club.

Don't believe the hype

Yeah don't believe the hype. But look at the facts.

Our Captain has not signed on the dotted line. He is putting himself first when our team needs stability.

He is either:
a. indifferent;
b. homesick; or
c. greedy
