with this rumour going around that Pavlich wants to leave, however true it is i have no idea, what would you be willing to give up for him?

personally if the deal was there to be made id give bartel and a first round pick in a heartbeat..
thoughts?

I would hate to give up Jimmy but shizzle ma nizzle PAVLICH.

I have been saying to PATDMAN since the start of the season he is the man I would want. Can play on ball, CHB, CHF and FF. If he is available we should throw a fair bit his way.

Handy Player. Although I really dont want to lose Jimmy. He is the type of player who is good to watch young Bartel.

We would be just about unbeatable with the likes of Pav in the side - couldn't see it happenning though. He is to good to lose, Freo will not lie down and let him walk

Bartel + first pick, no doubt. In fact, I hope this trade happens. I'd hate to lose Jimmy, but Pav is a gun and has a great attitude as well. Would be a star down at Geelong. Imagine that forward line!

It's too good to be true. But they would want more. They would want Joel Corey, which would change our minds a little I would suggest. They would want Joel Corey and a top 7 draft pick which we would have to use Bartel to get. I would still do it but it would hurt.

NO WAY...we would be CRAZY to give up two players of this calibre. Bartel and a pick. Or something like Bartel and Mackie or Bartel and Gardiner. But not Corey and Bartel. THAT IS CRAZY SPEAK!

Bartel and our first pick no worries. Pavlich is in the top 10 players in the comp. I wish but it couldn't happen could it??????
One player i would give Bartel up for.

Matthew Pavlich is an absolute gun and we should move Heaven and earth to get him if he's truly on the market.

No idea if it is true, but cant u just imagine him in the blue and white hoops? sorry plafair, but we'd have a new CHF!

The only player i would give Bartel up for would be Pav. Bartel and a 2nd round draft pick. Bartel WILL be a star, but id prefere 2 keep our 1st round pick, even though i know that would never happen, as we would have to give up our 1st rounder

May I post in your forum?

Is Bartel on the move or something? Why is his name cropping up in trade speculation?

I'd love him at Collingwood and we have a low pick to trade (5, I think pick 2 is not tradeable as a PP)

bartel is curently unsigned, and is asking more than we are willing to offer.
chances are he will sign though

Wanna Trade GAj, Nath or Scarlo then?
Nath would not go to WA.
KP would be burnt to the ground if GAJ was traded. Then Nath would leave anyway.

I believe we would have a greater chance at a flag with Pavlich than Scarlett in the side.
So yes, Scarlett could be considered. Crazy eh?

Hate to say this, but I agree. I would do anything for Pavlich, but remember this is Freo. A third rounder and Will Slade would probably get the job done.

A rock solid defense is what wins premierships, and without Scarlett Geelong wouldn’t have that.
Any club would do virtually anything to get him though.

Bartel and a first I would definitely offer. Freo would be crazy to off-load him though, more likely Medhurst gets shipped out instead.

You guys are going to crucify me for this but (providing Jimmy doesn't want to leave) I wouldn't do it for Pavlich or Riewoldt for that matter. Every post I have read in this thread have given the big thumbs up to the feasibility of this potential trade. Call me crazy or whatever you can conjure up I would not do it.

My reasons are:

1. Loyalty - We talk about a player's duty to remain loyal to a club, to bleed that club's colours, to sacrifice all for the jumper and to do all that is possible to be able to sing the club song after a match. Where is our loyalty to our players as supporters and as a club? We are so quick to accept any gains without knowing the potential dangers. The fact that Pavlich is a gun does not necessarily mean that he will be a "FIT" with the GFC. We lose Bartel whom we have groomed to lead our midfield brigade and is a popular member of the team for Pavlich who is a superstar I agree, but our other players will cringe at the fact that supporters and the club are willing to drop them at first opportunity in order to secure a high price and profile player for another team. (The Moloney Effect is what I'm going to call it)

2. Jimmy = Diesel - Jimmy is a core part of our engine room. Although people might say that Key Position Players are harder to come by, I just can't imagine our side without Bartel in it. His courage, hard at it and in and under style of play. I believe that apart from Ling he is our best candidate for the Chas Brownlow.

3. Team chemistry - Some say that we were a Star Key Forward away from being in GF in 2004. We had Otten and Playfair this year (bearing in mind the injuries are all), our forward line still lacks chemistry. It still lacks the closeness similar to what we have in the backline. An understanding between the players. Having Pavlich there might increase marks and potential goals but building trust and understanding takes time. Croad was a gun KPP for Hawthorn. He moved to Fremantle and failed to deliver. Woewodin was a gun he moved to Collingwood and just lost it. It's not all about recruiting the gun player. Its about developing and keeping the players who love the club to death and guys who are will to put life and limb for their club (For example Michael Voss, David King, Chris Grant, Johnathan Brown).

I know a lot of you guys won't agree with me, but this is my opinion. I wouldn't trade Bartel unless he was desperate to get out of Geelong.

I have issues with shipping out two good players for one great one. Pavlich can more than fill one hole left by a Corey or a Bartel but certainly not two. Imagine what that'd do to us if either Corey or Bartel got injured (long-term) next year. That's what it'd be like.

I'd love Bartel at Hawthorn too.

If Pavlich is on the move, I think Geelong are as well-placed to get him as anyone. Probably have a surplus of excellent young midfielders, and the list is in such a position that they could happily give up their 1st round pick also. The Cats don't need to stockpile young players, like Hawthorn do, as the only piece of the puzzle missing is probably another Key Forward.

I don't think Bartel and a 1st Round Pick is that unreasonable, like some of you are suggesting. Is at least the equivalent of 2 x 1st Round Picks. Perhaps your pick may need to lower (as in better), which could be done via a 3rd party, but IMO it's not that far off the mark. Certainly a better starting point than alot of clubs would have to offer.

Craziest thing i have heard in a long time. I was joking....

Scarlo is the most important player at our club. I would not trade him for any player in the league. Judd, Brown, Pavlich, etc are not worth Scarlo, if not on talent, then just loyalty. It would wreck the foundations of the club if scarlo was even considered come trade time.
