Pav to announce his retirement at The Doig tonight? Hope he does. It would be really sad for him to retire mid next season or finishing his career at Peel.

I thought this too but I doubt he will. Pav will want the night to be about the winner, not his retirement
The reverse Michael Clarke?

I would hope he goes around one more time, but with better management. He's still a very clever player and his skills have not deserted him. His only downfall is his speed which has been hampered by his leg issues which require more rest to heal. However I would not have him go around again unless another key forward is found ( McCarthy) as that would be too much of a burden for Pav to carry but with another forward taking the pressure off ,Pav would definitely contribute his share of goals. I haven't checked the stats but I am sure Pav would always contribute 30+ goals guaranteed ,can you say that about Mayne .

I think he is in the Luke McPharlin bracket of last year. Everyone kind of expects him to retire, everyone thinks he could go one more.

I too think he'll go one more. Sure there were signs of fatigue and loss of mobility but he is still a solid contributor and I really hope they manage him well.

I'd take 18 games of his experience before finals.

He can miss the games to Launceston, Gold Coast, Darwin and Antartica for a start.

If the club can bring in or form 2 handy/solid/good talls then if Pav plays on that's a very good 3 players up forward. It's all about our forward line lacking class when they get a change to slot a goal, right now we have Walters and Pavlich who take those chances, we need 4 more down there.

Hey guys sorry to intrude didnt really know where to put this but If pav does retire and you pick up a mccarthy/casboult/another forward. Does alex pearce fit into ur 22 as a forward or is he just on the outside competing for a spot with silvagni? Cheers

IMO Alex Pearce is the replacement in the backline for McPharlin

Overall hard to say. But McPharlin gone, all of Dawson, Johnson and Silvagni have missed lots of footy this year. He could probably get a spot in the backline most weeks (even when I liked the setup with only Ibbotson as 3. tall we had earlier this season). See him as McPharlin's replacement as well (but who knows, Silvagni was a lock for that some time ago as well and not so mucu anymore). Depending on who else we get, but he could get games forward as well (especially when Pav retires). But really hard to say atm how our key positions will be set up next year. Apeness will need to get game as well or he probably is close to gone...

If he plays on we need to rest him a hell of a lot more than we did this year. 10-12 games.
The club won't do this because they don't have the luxury of it.

McPharlin was supposed to be rested this season. People forget about that. He was instead selected for every game possible and ended up finishing his career before the finals as a result of it. I don't think we could've won the flag with Lukey bulking up the back line but he definitely would've helped. Him not being there showed a massive flaw in the selection panels mentality and the fact we're just not covered in the areas that matter.

Pav shouldn't have to play on if he's not 100% into the idea. At this stage, I reckon he might go around once more but the reality is he'll be cooked mid-season and should've given it up in 2015. He still performs admirably but the poor prick has carried a club for 15 years and is now carrying a backline at 33... you can't have two key backs on you all game while 'developing' forwards don't help you.

I think if we land McCarthy he will play on another year, no McCarthy no Pav.
This. If we are forced to go into next year with same personnel 1 year older then we are close to zero chance of winning anyway and it's pretty much pointless him going on.
