Pav will go around again, we've delisted/retired at least 1 & possibly 2 too many as it is. Especially with a reputedly shallow draft this year and next. Give him a chance to get his coaching credentials happening as well. We want a seamless transition for the great man. Suggestion to Steves R & H, change merchants, how about renaming the club to commemorate the great one. MP's? Matty Pavs? Pavliches? Cockburn Pavs? :straining::rolleyes:

I'm on the fence with Dawson. I had thought that with a full preseason he would be capable of handling the big forwards, however I watched the GWS game last night (His first game for the season) and he was beyond terrible. Cost multiple goals and got rubbed out for his elbowing Cameron. His decision making was poor and his skills extremely rusty.

Did Dawson have a full preseason? He will have better preparation next year.

WA Today are reporting Pav (and screenshot of a comment re Barlow) are no longer on the official website?

Weren't similar things reported same time last year? Surely if it was the end for Pav they'd let him announce it before taking him off the website. Could just be updates for the 2016 season and because they don't know what he's doing yet, there's no point putting him on official advertising things & having to change them again so soon after if he does hang up the boots.

If Pavlich does go on there's no way he's going to be captain, it will be given to Fyfe who he can help transition into the role. Pavlich doesn't need to be the leader anymore and can play and feel a bit more off the chain. People reading into this media thing too much. It's more likely Fyfe has already been decided captain internally next year than Pavlich deciding he's retiring. If that's the case Fyfe is the new icon of the club, they're not going to put Pavlich before anyone anymore. It's going to be hard getting used to that's for sure.

I wouldn't be surprised if those photos were taking a few months back also, I bet before Round 1 rolls around we will have a new one of Fyfe, Bennell and Neale.

Those photos were taken more than a few months back going by Fyfe's hair.

I thought the players voted on captain when they got back? There's a good chance Fyfe will be captain whether it's next year, or in the future, but I don't think anything would be decided yet.

If they were, makes the claims of Pavlich retiring sound even stupider if they're going off pictures being used on the Fremantle websites.

They do, but it's hard to think Pavlich hasn't said / suggested to the club or Fyfe directly by now that he should be captain / captaincy won't be his in 2016.

And the header reads "Hogan's Hero's" ;)

I can see it now

I don't think Bennell will be in the media until he's proven to turn himself around

I don't think he has much to prove or really needs to turn himself around, his "problems" were exaggerated by the media to a point where they made him look like some mess regarding the Richmond process.

The only reason he shouldn't right now is because it will put on even more pressure than there already is for him to perform to the god-like expectations people are having of him on-field. Let him knuckle down and transition into our squad at his own pace.

I agree. But only because I'd hate to see the stupid questions asked by the journos directed at him.
That and he's probably not a "role model" at current for the club

If he turns it around he'll be a pin up boy like Fyfe

Fella you are brilliant... and that's what a picture of trading aggressively should look like.

Good luck defending that lot... if that ain't some fire power!

Could you imagine?

Maybe not today, maybe not Thursday but pretty sure our recruiters have something like this penciled in long term ;)

Don't read into the Pav thing. While I reckon he'll retire and he deserves to do as he wants, a lot of English soccer clubs don't include players if they're even a chance to leave. At 33, you wouldn't go including anyone as the major face of a membership campaign. Add in Fyfey's Brownlow and his marketability, and no shit old Pav'd be pushed to the side.

Seriously mate, it we're going to win a flag, we need to weed these types out. People might disagree but you wouldn't see his type on Hawthorns list. They got rid of his years ago. He's ....house sorry
Your posts are shithouse. Seriously if you cant see how much better we are at defending the high ball when Dawson is in the team then I recommend watching football with your eyes open. For all the grief he copped in the two finals game he actually only conceded two goals in two games to his direct man (two of tippets three goals were when he matched up on Clarke rucking) Id thought we had moved past the 'Dawson is shit' rubbish posts.

Do you ever post without abusing somebody? This isn't really the thread for it, but the reason we haven't moved past the Dawson is shit posts is because Dawson is shit. Part of the reason we have been so unsuccessful in the past is because we have been too willing to accept players that only have one string to their bow. Dawson is the poster boy for one string wonders.

Nah Reg.he has at least two strings: he is an excellent spoiler, and he has an uncanny ability to leave his man and help another defender out, in other words, he takes risks for the betterment of his team.
He has also been a pretty good ruckman playing against Collingwood for a quarter in the past, and can kick a set shot when no one else can.
If he is surrounded by runners and elite kicks, we won't even notice him. This year was not his best year, but having no preseason tends to do that to a player.

I put both of those skills into the excellent spoiler basket.

It's hard to argue when he has results on the board.

If he could kick it himself, our runners and elite kicks could be closer to goal.

Let's face it, he wouldn't get a game at Hawthorn. (Yes, I know he played 14 games at Hawthorn).

Schoenmakers got a game at Hawthorn. Pretty much as Dawson mkII.
