Pav's slow!

Maybe I'm a little cranky but I think the other options some of our midfielders need to consider are other clubs.

I've been watching the same 6-8 players go around for nearly 3.5 years for pretty much the same result. That elimination final where we got belted had Bell-Hasleby-M Carr-Webster-MacManus-Walker-Headland-Sandilands-JLo. The only change is Crowley and Josh Carr.

I think the problem Ralph is that we haven't added much youth to the group. By trading for the quick fix most years we haven't added the midfield talent that is available in the first round of the draft.

The only midfielders that we have with trade value are the required players in Josh Carr, Hasleby, Crowley and Peake. I don't understand why we play an All Australian midfielder in the forward line when we are getting smashed through the centre. With the season on the line Pav needed to play onball in the second half, that is where the game is won and lost. Bulldogs made the 8 last year without a spine.

IP says if you keep doing the same thing over and over you'll get the same result.

I did say that and it's absolutely true. If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.

And we seem to be stuck on the roundabout of doing the same week after week, year after year and expecting different results. How exactly do you get different results when you're not doing anything any differently to create different results?? That's plain crazy to expect things to change when you don't do anything to make them change...

It's all just Quantum Physics. Maybe everyone at the club needs to sit down and watch "What the Bleep do we know?" - and do a basic course in quantum physics and start about recreating their reality. Cos at the moment their reality is not much fun for anyone who supports Freo (players, admin, coaching staff included).

I get your point IP, but we look at things as Fremantle supporters. I'm sure fans of the 15 other clubs would be thinking why the **** would he stay at that club, it's a rabble.

Pav owes the Fremantle Football Club nothing. He has held up his side of the agreement and given his all for 8 seasons. He has another 6 or 7 years in the game, I'm sure if the season continues the way that it's going he'll be thinking that he doesn't want to waste another 3 years at this club.

To average Joe's (and Jane's) like us it seems strange that as a full time well paid athlete that motivation would be an issue, but it quite clearly is. It's a frequent occurence in all sports that a team goes from chumps to champs with a new coach. The leadership group have tried to sort out some issues already this year, but quite clearly it hasn't worked. The magic potion that they found during the split round last year must not be working this year.

You're right dom. For me it comes back to Quantum Physics, and recreating their reality. The same results will continue unless they break the thought patterns and processes and cause a radical shift in what the curent "reality" for FFC is. Pav's a smart guy - it would be good if he could be a part of the shift.

I think he's now disinterested with the Dockers, thats the problem. He wants to come home to South Aus, probably to the Crows.

Freo cant offer him consistent finals and a flag.

He isnt a good captain, he doesnt work ahrd enough on the field and doesnt set the example like he shoule be.
Give the captaincy to Paul Hasleby.
Right now i wouldnt be to dissapointed if he left at the end of the year and i think he will.

Pfffffffft. That is such a Noob statement. Go sit in the cornor and think about it.

IP says if you keep doing the same thing over and over you'll get the same result. Outside MacManus none of those players have got significantly better in that time. And some are not as good through injury. And we haven't improved our team work in that time either. I'm very sceptical of midfields ability to compete with the top 8.

Sandilands has definitely improved, but your point is valid.

Midfielders are a dime a dozen. All we need to do is get some fast ones.

That is rubbish. Imagine a midfield of Walker, Headland, Ibbotson and Peake as their core. Lots of pace and they woulod be consistently creamed. As well as pace we lack good hands, pressure skills and depth kicking in our midfield. And class.

A lot will depend on what happens towards the end of the season. If missing the finals becomes a certainty and it looks like Connolly isn't going to be our coach the club needs to be proactive and get the ball rolling before the season finishes. If we are still interviewing applicants during trade week Pav won't want to hang around.

I still think that we'll make the 8, once we get players back we should be good enough to win 7 or 8 in the second half of the season. Then the club will tell us everything is rosie, they'll re-sign Connolly, and the rollercoaster ride will continue. :(

Hasleby has all those things and we sorely missed him today, but of course Hase is just one player, but at the very moment pace is what we lack most.

How can you judge someone that hasn't even played?

I think wizard is circling the truth.

It might be bit like I mentioned in another thread. IE we all expect too much from him and when he doesnt deliver it stands out even more.

Still i'm with Wizard on this one.

It's now up to coaching staff to identify how to circumvent his poor form and turn it into a positive. Something like instructing the team to only use him if there is no other options. Have Pav as a back up big body around the packs.

I agree that it's time to make some changes. While everyone loves and admires McManus, the reality is he wouldn't get a game in any other team. He shouldn't be getting a game in our team and the fact that he is doesn't say much for our youngsters who should have been pressing for selection and demanding that spot long before now.
Totally agree about Macca, but disagree about the young guys. Dunn was burning early in the year and wasn't given the opportunity. Also, we just don't have many young midfielders coming through because we've drafted flankers and overlooked midfielders since CC joined us.

footnote: Interesting that EF haven't won since losing Dunn. He was giving them a heap of grunt and drive.

:D

They didnt beat us on their flat track russell. I think the way the Pav is playing at the moment, his trade is devaluating.

Although i reckon the Power could squeeze him in somewhere, and let him play some good finals.

Could squeeze him in somewhere? You'd drop Tredrea to include Pavlich.

It would be close going on Tredders form at the moment. But he will be back to his best in a couple more. We would put pav CHF, Tredders FF. Would work well.

While i'm at it, can we please have Carry back ?? :D

Good luck for the rest of the season, i was hoping Freo would do much more this year and knock those Weagles off their bloated perch.

Cmon !! Fire up Freo

Yeah - all Freo' supporters want that as well, but it seems the Football Gods want us to serve more pennance for some reason.

10 years of crap - a flash of hope and back to a slipperly slide of defeats.

Still - I love Fremantle - I just refuse to accept the mediocrity they dish up weekly lately anymore.

It could be worse - we are not Richmond.......... (yet).

Weak responses all round including this one. I'd say Troy Cook is someone who you would kick to in the forward line if there were no other opinoins. Not Pav. Seriously, what are you thinking?

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near some of you guys in any kind of team or organisation. As a team we are average right now but to look at Pav like this is dead set stupid.

Pav is a star and our leader. He has given a lot to Freo and deserves more loyalty than you guys are showing him.

Great post NiGHTFuRY, couldn't have said it better myself :thumbsu:

The part I dont agree with is the captaincy bit.

There are a few facts.
He has played better
He can play better

When was the last time he chased someone down.
When was the last time he grabbed a ball out of a pack broke a tackle and hit a target.
When was the last time he took a big pack mark.

The guy is marquee player with with weight, height, skills, talent and all the ability in one package you could hope for. Lately we havnt seen it on display.

That's the truth whether you like it or not. Stop being an ostrich.
True he given a lot to Freo and he has my loyalty 100% but I also reserve the right to tell the truth as I see it when I see it.

I will still stand by what I said that suggesting that Pav be used "if there is no other options" is insane and IMO evidence of a knee jerk reaction.

How does that instill faith in clearly our best player (whether he is out of form or not)?
