I think I'm going to get the Lenovo G34W-10 because I can get it with a student discount. Same panel as the AOC, but it'll take a couple of months to ship

Just did some quick rounds checking out the new (??) XT stuff. Way to convolute your product stack.
Just need to have something at every price point to fu** with Intel.
Good on em,
but I still maintain that AMD has the single stupidest naming convention ever for their graphics cards. Intel not far behind either.
Does anyone have any gaming laptop recommendations? My missus is looking to upgrade now and spend about $1.5-$2.5k.
I was thinking of something with a 2060ish gpu. Ryzen 7 or i7. 15" screen as she's not a fan of the 17" she has now. Does anybody have any suggestions at all? I haven't bought a laptop in yonks!
I bought one earlier in the year. I ended up with a Raser 17 inch which I got with a decent discount but still a bit more pricey. It was the same size as my old 15 inch laptop too.Does anyone have any gaming laptop recommendations? My missus is looking to upgrade now and spend about $1.5-$2.5k.

They aren't. Ryzen 4000 Mobile is far superior to Intel, but is hampered by the fact that it is typically paired with an inferior discreet GPU(I haven't looked at laptops in ages, so maybe Intels mobile offerings are still superior).
Get her a desktop
Seriously though, The Ryzens should outperform the i7* (I haven't looked at laptops in ages, so maybe Intels mobile offerings are still superior).
I understand they have a use case and are the only option for some people, but I really have a hard time seeing the value in laptops. The only ones I ever buy are for coding and even then I feel like they are a bit of a con job. $2.5k for something with a 2060 in it just sounds bonkers!

Aftershock was one company I was about to pull the trigger on till I found a great deal with a better graphics card. Have a nice range and more of the "stealth" laptop rather than the horrible "I'm a gamer" flair of some of them if you want to do work on it too. Had good reviews and a lot of nice options in your price range. They build it for you and pick-up in Melbourne (not sure what now though).
Laptops still have a place if you are talking about "slim and light" ultrabooks imo, because tablets + a quality keyboard are still too expensive in Australia. (I know people say that an iPad Pro and an Apple Magic keyboard is a viable laptop replacement, but its hundreds of dollars more expensive here) But those things aren't for gaming.
I've never really understood the point of those chunky 15" or 17" gaming laptops - just build a desktop. It'll either be cheaper for the same performance, or you'll get more bang for your buck
IIRC the most important things are ensuring the laptop you get has dual channel memory, that the SODIMM isn't welded in, that it has an Nvidia GPU and that the screen does actually cover most of the sRGB colour space so the colours don't look washed out (unlike the Asus TUF A15 which Tim from Hardware Unboxed absolutely roasted)No matter what, she's buying a laptop soon, may as well.

If you are after reviews, this actually popped up in my YT recommended page a couple of days ago (I take it that they are a bunch of tech Youtubers that specialise in reviewing laptops, but I've never actually watched any videos by any of those people)

Ok, i think i know the answer to this but need confirmation.
I have my modem/router in the middle of the house and ethernet cables running through the roof to each room, office and TV spot so i can hardwire the fix mounted items.
Where the main TV is I have a smart TV,IQ4 foxtel and xbox. To split the ethernet cable into many for each item without loss of transfer rate I need a ethernet switch?
Been reading about splitters/hubs and switchs, looks like switchs are the optimal one?
Thanks
