Does your budget include the monitor in the $1500-2000?

What resolution are you wanting to play? 1080 or 1440p?

Apart from BG3 what others?

For example if you are looking at Starfield some AMD CPUs and GPUs currently have a promotion for a free copy.

I'd love it if the monitor was included but if not I reckon I could go up to say $2500? give or take.

I haven't really looked at any other games. Ive been getting into the slower paced games lately especially some of the simulators that are/have been on xbox Farming Sim/house flipper etc so I'm guessing they're not hugely hardware intensive.

Can't recommend much as dwwaino is the man,

If you're not comfortable with putting stuff together (It's basically like putting together LEGO but when the pieces cost around $400+ it does make you a bit nervous) You can get some pre-builts, but there's a few dodgy operators in this space.

Are you planning on using this thing for work as well?

If you're into flight simulator in particular this is way more CPU intensive than graphics card intensive (for reasons), but just wanted to mention it.

Any budget can work but trying to squeeze in a monitor to $1500-2000 might be tough. Depends on expectations. Then again I haven't monitored prices that much in the last 6 months. I'll have a peak around later.

If you want smooth and crisp I’d recommend a 24 inch monitor for 1080p or 27 inch for 1440p.

Should be able to configure a system including monitor that will cater for either.

Obviously 24 inch 1080p will be more friendly on the bank balance.

What other uses apart from gaming?

If you can whittle down your requirements I’ll put together something on PC part picker. If you’re not comfortable building yourself get someone like scorptec or centrecom or pccg to build to your specs.

Most prebuilts that are good are priced at a premium and the cheaper ones usually use low quality or outdated parts they’re trying to shift.

Well aren't you lot a bloody helpful and attentive bunch.

So basically yes I'll be also using it for general household stuff too. but no heavy lifting.
Wife will probably use it for the odd day's wfh, kids will use it for homework etc.

I've played flight sim on the xbox. fun but don't need to be able to play it on the PC if thats going to add too much stress to it.

Decent build, the change I'd probably make is adding an SSD so there's a OS/Program drive and a data drive. It's not necessary, but it can make things cleaner if you ever need to rebuild the OS.

Good point. I would happily add one of the fast 1TB options as the OS drive.

Oh wow, I didn't realise SSD prices have dropped so much. Handy to know.

It's splitting hairs but for general and gaming use the extra bandwidth over pcie isn't even utilised so if you wanted to go dedicated OS/application drive could always cut a corner getting a smaller M.2 nvme then spend the difference grabbing a bigger SATA SSD for vidya gaems.

I have just started re-playing Mass Effect Andromeda. Can someone explain to me why when the game is in windowed mode it looks crisp like it should but when it is in full screen it looks like there is a lot of glare on the screen? Even the screen calibration option is different between the two modes.

I found a fix for this last night. If anyone else with an NVIDIA card gets bad colour washing, in the NVIDIA control panel change the output color format to YCbCr 422. It is annoying having to switch it back after playing but at least I can play in full screen again.

If you don’t have a windows activation key you can pick one up very cheaply online (about $30 was my last pro license).
Personally I’d go for normal ATX size and a decent gold+ power supply but that system should do all you need and you can upgrade parts in the future as the AMD5 platform should be around for a while.

I hope so, currently rocking AM4 in both my desktop and server, may upgrade next year to AM5,

Scorptec is pretty competitive. Getting all of them from there would only cost $30 or $40 more.
