I was leaning towards the issue being the CPU cooler since it gets quite a bit of a rattle and at times a loud constant whine which forces me to shut down to stop. That hasn't happened nearly as much since I turned the fans down in the BIOS so the longer the issue has gone on the more I have leaned towards the issue being with the motherboard due to audio problems but I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to PC issues so who knows.

I am hoping the issue isn't going to cost a lot to fix since money is tight at the moment.

Sounds suspiciously like a motherboard.

What CPU and chipset?

CPU is an i9-10850K. Motherboard is a z590 elite. The Chipset is apparently Intel 500 series.

You might be able to pick up a mobo cheaply from ebay/facebook marketplace if you're convinced it's the issue.

So I spoke to one of the tech guys at PLE and he said it sounds like a multitude of issues. He said it definitely sounds like there is an issue with the motherboard. The noise it makes on startup which I forgot to mention he thinks could be the PSU fan ramping right up and then settling down. Then two other noises (the rattle and loud constant whine) he thinks are the CPU cooler. The rattle coming from the fan bearings and the whine being an issue with the pump.

But, I won't know for sure until I bring my PC in to them next week. It looks like it could be costing me a lot more than I want to spend.
 
I wouldn't worry too much about the PSU fan noise just yet if that's what it is if it's only on startup. A lot of things run at 100% until post and the motherboard applies settings. It also pulls more juice on startup. Same can be said for things like CPU cooler. If there are gremlins in the motherboard then it could play all sorts of funny buggers with other hardware like sending full current or dirty power. Only problem with motherboards failing is unless they're recent then you're likely up for a new CPU too.

Just got off the phone with PLE who have had my PC since Monday last week and the problem is that my AIO is completely dead and not cooling at all. Thankfully no issue with the motherboard so it is a relatively cheap fix compared to what I was expecting.
 
Thankfully that's all it is, odd symptoms though. I've had an AIO pump fail. ICue was reporting pump RPM and the pump was vibrating but no fluid was moving (I think the impaler came off the rotor) but the trigger for me to investigate was one day my FPS went to poo and I noticed my CPU throttling with huge temps even at idle.

Stuttering, freezing and generally being slow would definitely happen from a CPU throttling due to a failed cooler but not recognising hardware/driver issues are a mystery.

I've concluded WA PLE are the equivalent to Scorptec here. Everyone have really positive experiences and their service is good. However I've been to the PLE store in Melbourne twice and both times were terrible experiences. Infact the first time I nearly got into a punch on with the sales dude because he was being a campaigner (and I promised the wife years ago I'd stop "taking it outside" when people shit me).

I think I've used them once or twice besides that just for pick up because their store is in the same suburb as my work, only about 2 minutes away, and I drive past it every day. That's only the really rare occasions that Scorptec or PC Case Gear haven't had something in stock that I've needed urgently or they were significantly cheaper.

Ah that's disappointing. Yeah I have nothing but good things to say about them, and I've been to multiple PLE stores here in WA, bought my current PC and HTPC through them, plus various bits and pieces over the years. Always my go-to and who I recommend others go to as well.

I am tempted to take my headphones with me when I pick it up just to make sure that the issue is fixed. It seemed strange to me that not recognising hardware could be caused by a cooler issue but when I dropped it off the bloke I spoke to did say that all my issues could be either the cooler or the motherboard as issues with both could explain my problems.

Update: It turns out the issue is a windows problem. Booting into anything other than the main windows fixes the issue. They have tried rolling back drivers but they always revert back to whatever is corrupted. They are going to do a fresh windows install over night and see if that fixes the issue.

Had a few SSDs shortlisted as they're the most likely thing I need that would go on sale shortly. I was just expecting to go with whatever I see cheaper out of the typical ones like Kingston Fury Renegade, WB SN850x, Crucial T500 and maybe the Samsung 980 Pro. Some retailers are activating some of the sales already and bang out of the nowhere the Samsung 990 Pro 2tb is a square $100 off. Absolutely stupid not to grab a couple at that price. Bargain. Also took the opportunity to order my case as it's unlikely to get a meaningful discount (white version has a whopping $14 off) and my preferred Scorptec have to get it from supplier anyway.

All that's left for me besides the graphics card which will obviously be next year is the motherboard, AIO and PSU. The motherboards are too new (and the one I want seems to be one of the most popular) to receive a sale and the AIO is also a new model that only just released a few weeks ago so I doubt that will go on sale either while they've got clearance prices on the previous model. The PSU has just received a revision (for ATX 3.1 spec) so unsure if that will be discounted or not but I guess unlikely too.

Every time I see the 7800x3d for sale I pat myself on the back. Last time I saw it online it had a "sale" price of over $700. It's also reguarly out of stock. When I got it for $588 not that long ago it must have been pretty rock bottom.
 
With MSFS 2024 a few days away, was making me think I should take more advantage of the monitor (Samsung Neo 57") currently got the 3080ti/5800x - any point in upgrading to one of/both 7800x3d/4090? (after donating a kidney of course)
