So the part about retailers not wanting to lose money should the prices increase and they have hundreds of orders to honour. This is what someone else got from Computer Alliance

Fair enough too, people think these guys make a heap on parts but margins are pretty shit. Even back when I did sales and builds for a PC store it was crap, and that's before guys like MSY came in and would have cut them even further.

Looks like the prices are being bumped up already, 5080 is about +$100 and 6090 is about +$200, that'll be a kick in the balls for those who got cancelled

I've been scoping smaller stores that purchase from Leader out of curiosity that are out of sight of bots and they've had the occasional Palit 5090 available. They move smaller quantities so are already selling them at jacked prices like $4899 which I think makes them the most expensive behind the Astral.

Watching these stores is how I sniped my 3080 back in the day so if push comes to shove I'll employ that tactic again. So far Mwave are still holding firm but have delayed their update they were going to give customers today while they wait for more info from their supplier. I'm still early in the line so I'm not budging yet but I've noticed at least a couple with order numbers before mine already considering dropping their 5090 order and trying to snag a 5080 instead. Good news for me.

Sounds like there could be issues with PCIe5.0 and the 5000 series cards, although it's not the "bricking" Reddit mouthbreathers are rambling about. Hopefully it's just a chipset or GPU driver update

Der Bauer seemed to think it it was with early PCIe 5.0 "compatible" boards, but there might also be a driver issue too

Interesting the one at the end where they mentioned the FE with a riser cable. I'm under the impression that will never work and find it strange that the site is reporting it as news. The FE already has the equivalent of a riser cable built in. The connector isn't physically on the same board (the PCIe connector is in the usual spot but the PCB is in the centre of the card and uses a bridge) and doubling up risers will never work.

9070xt expected to launch March 6. AMD have had longer to build supply and since they're still using GDDR6 they shouldn't have have had the same disruption. It will be interesting how many coming from an older card pick one up because they can't be bothered waited for a 50 series anymore.
If you believe all the dumbarses out there and their Nvidia melts, no one will buy it because it's only got 16GB RAM :drunk:

What's funny is leading up to the launch the 5080 was supposed to be DOA due to "only" 16gb but now everyone is falling over themselves to get one. 16gb of vram in 2025 is better than the 10gb on the 3080 in 2020. My bro in law has my old 3080 now and it's not causing him any major issues with the stuff he plays at 3440x1440. I play at the same resolution and I've never seen any game hog all 16gb of my 4080 yet (the primary reason I want a 5090 is to move to 4K and maintain high fps).

well end of the week my orders still not cancelled. ETA has changed 30/1 > 4/2 > 25/2 > 18/2

some of the rumours I've seen still make me worried about cancellation

Stock allocated for Aus/Asia Pacific has apparently been redirected to the US so I think they're all just waiting to see what's happening. From what I gathered there is a substantial shipment coming mid Feb so 18/2 checks out, but the one that was coming after has also been diverted.

To make matters worse for anyone that gets cancelled and tries to find one later is the prices are going up probably so absorb the tariffs US put on China. We're basically all being ****ed so the US can get their fill and this will extend to more than graphics cards.

I assume it's either to **** with bots or a placeholder, it's the only one of their cards running close to that price.

EDIT: BARGAIN! Jump on it

I definitely thought something was up with the $8000 price rather than $7999 or something, but still.... Save $2001, stonks!!!

I'm pretty sure a whole heap of Palit 5090s are about to drop into smaller stores. Might try and snipe one as the more I see prices increase the more I expect Mwave to cut everyone loose. The only thing I can think of is that they're actually warning more interest holding so many orders currently. I've crunched my numbers and I'm about 50 from the front.

After watching Buildzoid's recent video about melting connectors I think it's (mostly) going to be isolated to FEs, but for the moment I'm happy for my 5090 to take a little longer until someone gets to the bottom of this. The cables in PCs are typically insulated in plastic or nylon and the 12v power cable is 1.5mm/16AWG with a max total rating of 9.5A (8.33A at the 600w spec). At work we use silicon rubber flex on motors which has a higher max current rating but the same gauge is only rated for 15A. The fact that he was measuring over 20A on one wire is absolutely insane and it's also puzzling because on Buildzoid's break down all 6 actives on the FE are terminating into a single point so they should be perfectly balanced. Looks like I'll be safer just doing a power limit than the undervolt I was planning.

Yeah it seems to be the FEs causing the major problems, although I'm not sure how much of a problem it actually is? How many confirmed cases have their been? So far the main burnout incidents I've seen are old mate pumping 900w through a 4090 (posted on the 5090 release day), the guy using a shitty adapter in a mini-itx case, and a Youtube personality who makes his living by generating views (and probably affiliate money from people buying the thermal sensor he used from Amazon).

To be safe I ended up getting a new ATX 3.1 PSU (the updated Corsair RM1000x), the 12V-2x6 cable is actually made with a different cable. If you're spending this kind of money on a GPU it makes sense to be to not cheap out on things running high levels of power, and I've found it weird that people seem offended by the idea online, although to be fair a heap of them would just be crying in general because Nvidia bad AMD good.
