honestly if I can get it at release price I'll wait it out another month, I just hate not knowing where I am in the queue, and getting ETAs that blow out another week over and over. I sent them a message this time

Fair. The cards are coming in it's just that they don't want to give them away for the prices we paid which is bullshit. They can't sell the cards individually without satisfying preorders first so they're putting them in prebuilds. That's what's happening at Mwave with the Suprim and that was one of the most popular sellers. I think prices will return to normal but in the end I just said **** it, my parts have been sitting here long enough.

Umart dispatched my 5080 Aorus Master already so time to cancel the Mwave order.

What is the difference between HDR10 and Dolby Vision? All I can really find is Dolby Vision is 12bit whereas HRD10 is 10bit.

A couple of years ago I posted about how when playing Mass Effect Andromeda in full screen mode the picture was very graywashed. I started a new playthrough and had the same issue. I found a reddit post from about a year ago with people posting about having the same issue and someone said switching from HDR10 to Dolby Vision in the video settings fixed the issue for them. It has for me as well.

It depends on the metadata and your display's ability to handle it. Dolby Vision isn't on everything because it's a certification that costs money where as HDR10 is open source. I'm not sure exactly the issue you had with Andromeda but if for some reason the HDR setting was set to Dolby Vision and your display is only capable of HDR10 then the mapping would be incorrect. I'm not sure if that's even possible though because usually unsupported technologies aren't available as an option. You may have a Dolby Vision capable display though that is already set to Dolby and the game is outputting HDR10 which would also show incorrect mapping. I was reading something recently about Dolby Vision capable monitors set to HDR (I think I have this the right way around) and if Windows detects Dolby it will automatically default its HDR colour profile to Dolby regardless if it were enabled on the monitor or not. This was causing issues with Windows desktop being very washed out.

I remember being chuffed and excited overall when I purchased a 2080 Ti for under $1000 ($799-$899 from memory) when it had been 1800-2000 for so long. The 780ti I had prior to that was around the same price.

My upgrade path was 460ti (came with a pre built I purchased in 2010), 560ti, 780ti, 2080ti.

Not so sure that I'd pay high 4 figures ($2000+) for just a videocard. Have done $2,000 - $2,500 on laptops. Even the systems I've purchased may have been high priced (first prebuild was close to $2K, my second - was cheaper ($1300) yet more powerful by default AND EVEN MORE powerful once I started upgrading it).

The madness realty started with 20 series. Before that each class was roughly in the same ballpark of prices. I remember my 680 and 980 being around the same price, or the 980 was only a little more. The 1080 price was similar to the 980 and I remember getting the 1080ti for $1200. Once 20 series launched that was the price of the 2080 and the performance was around the same. It's when NVIDIA shifted to pricing against performance and the 2080ti was about $1800. Then the 3080 which was around 2080ti performance was prices the same, then is snowballs and we are where we are now. The 5080 is pulling in around 4090 performance with an overclock (minus the vram) and so the prices roughly align. The 5070ti is priced like a 4080 too for the same reason. It's a bubble that will hopefully burst.

Prices have leapt far above inflation.

In 2015 I paid $4k for a full system including monitor (144hz 1080p), plus a good Razor keyboard and mouse. It was a top of the range PC for the time (i7-6700k, 980ti, 16GB RAM). Taking inflation into account, I believe roughly $5k would be the equivalent today.

I doubt I can get a a Ryzon 7 9800X3D, 5080, 32GB RAM PC with a 1440p monitor (let alone 4k!) etc. for close to $5k.

biaseddustyfan make sure you update the bios on your x870e Nova before you boot it up. Sounds rare but the common factor is the 9800x3d.

Reddit reports of 9800X3D CPUs dying in ASRock motherboards are racking up fast, but a new BIOS update seemingly only addresses boot problems

I've squirrelled away about $4.5k so far. Still planning for July/August.

also Scorptec replied basically said "there was an allocation for your order but now the 11th March is still not a firm date" aka no info really haha

also Scorptec replied basically said "there was an allocation for your order but now the 11th March is still not a firm date" aka no info really haha

My rule with BIOS updates are if nothing is broken then don't try to fix it. The article does say MSI is on the list too but seems like it's majority ASRock. I wouldn't worry if it's working though as it sounds like it's fresh builds. I wasn't sure if you were using it or not yet.

Also my theory with your card is Scorptec don't actually have the cards with pre-orders on backorder and when they come in they put them in a pre-built. Scorptec are still getting cards as they're calling people who they cancelled and are offering them (obviously at the new price) before putting them up for sale. I just thought there were no MSI shipments but I've been seeing them in pre-builts and stores like Umart meanwhile stores like Scorptec and PLE have been selling every other brand. If they order too many MSIs for their pre-builts they'll have to give them to customers at a loss. Obviously it's your call what you do and I've got no proof, I'm only trying to connect dots, but it's ultimately why I gave up on my own order. Supply is still crap but 5080 isn't too bad with weekly deliveries so retailers have to be deliberately not ordering specific SKUs. Umart had the 5080 Gaming Trio for at least 3 hours the other night when I ordered my Aorus Master and I think it's absolute bullshit they had that many desirable SKUs by good brands like MSI and Gigabyte meanwhile Scorptec still don't have yours.

It came in a plastic air bag so I hate to think of the abuse it went through from Sydney. Some knocks to the corners of the box but thankfully they're pretty well packed inside. I was so nervous when I got my 3080 and had to watched it get air freighted from Perth to Melbourne lol.

9070 doesn't make sense at that price but if the XT can come in under $1500AUD with 5070ti performance then it's going to be popular I think. I guess we'll finally know if there is any truth in NVIDIA allegedly holding back inventory. PCCG are reporting they've got excellent stock too.

If this new architecture is going to be their launchpad going going forward, then in the future if they can match NVIDIA's 80 class and really improve on FSR and frame gen then I'll definitely consider team red as an option next time. Just for now at least I think DLSS and NVIDIA's technologies are way too good and worth the premium admission price.

yeah maybe I'll just leave it. I've run the PC all day like 10-15 times, obviously no gaming and nothing heating up the CPU though yet. It did boot up slow one time with code 15 but apparently it's memory training...?

and yeah honestly the email from Scorptec kinda felt like "you'll get your GPU when prices drop to near release price again" lol..

Just checked again, Umart have had 3 SKUs of 5080s in stock for days. Wouldn't pay those prices for the Astral or Gigabyte Windforce OC but for the Gaming OC $2799 isn't too bad if anyone just wants to get their hands on a 5080 and be done with it.

The sticking point of the 9070xt will be the price. Going forward RT is going to be almost mandatory and with DLSS 4 there is less incentive for 3080 and even 2080 owners to upgrade right away. 9070xt doesn't have a FE so it's going to come down to AIB pricing and I think they need to be under $1600.

Yeah for sure pricing will be key.

As of this second I'm leaning towards an all-AMD build which I never thought I'd say (current PC is Intel/NVIDIA)

Very keen to monitor prices, reports of buggy hardware/drivers, performance improvements with driver updates etc over the following months for both NVIDIA and AMD.

Will come down to 5080 or 9070xt and I can see myself swinging wildly between the two

I think May will be when I seriously start proper research and start speaking to PLE and other stores about what they can put together for me.

Also, regardless of which card I get, I think I've settled on a 1440p monitor rather than pushing it to 4k.

I currently have a 1080p monitor (and TV etc) so it's hard for me to be able to imagine how much better 1440p will be, and then 4k on top of that. At work I use 4k monitors but can't play games haha

So it might be a case of ignorance is bliss and I'll get a few more years out of my PC if I don't go 4k.
