I'm refreshing my old system to sell on marketplace and trying to ask around opinions on price. The full specs are

CPU: Ryzen 5900x
GPU: 4080 Strix (non-Super)
RAM: 4x8gb 3600cl16 Trident Royal
Motherboard: b550 MSI Tomahawk (brand new)
SSD: 1tb Team group MP44Q (brand new)
PSU: Corsair AX1000
CPU cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE black (brand new)
Case: NZXT h710

Since the motherboard is the non-wifi version I've grabbed a new wifi 7/bt5.4 add in card. Also throwing in 4 new case fans.

Using AU part picker and replacing some of the EOL stuff with current equivalents it comes to around $3800 all new. Was thinking of chucking a flat $3k on it leaving a bit of haggle room. Would this be fair?

I imagine you could quite easily start higher, especially given all the low-ball offers and "I just want x part" messages you'll get.

I just checked marketplace and there's a guy selling a 7800x3d system with 32gb and a 7900XT with a full Lian-Li case/AIO/LED fan wankfest for $3600

I'm predicting I'll get a lot of messages for the graphics card and I know I could flog that easily but I didn't know what to do with the rest of the system. The only issue I had selling as a whole system was I had to change the motherboard as while the x570 Hero worked fine it was technically defective. Since I had to change the motherboard I figured it was a good excuse to swap out the 4 year old AIO which is probably doesn't have a lot of life left. Just throwing it out didn't seem right. I thought maybe at a price like that it might get more bites as I just want to get rid of it ASAP and if anyone is desperate for the 4080 maybe they'll but the whole thing, swap the card and flip it again.

Will be cash only. I don't expect someone to be comfortable carrying around that much cash and my missus is super paranoid about strangers coming to our house so will probably organise any exchange at somewhere like a shopping centre carpark where ATMs are on hand and is safer for everyone involved. Might be too much of a stuff around for some people but it is what it is.

I imagine a local copshop carpark may be better for all parties, ATMs are handy but there's often limits on how much can be taken out per day (unless they get their bank to change it), so they may need to be prepared with the cash, or get something like a bank cheque.

Not sure about all banks but mine the daily limit can be lifted via the phone app up to like $7500 or something.

Legit just today processed a foreign student paying his uni fees in cash.
18,000 and change... and he walked in having got off at the bus stop out front.

18k while riding the bus....

I've paid for dvds (more than $60 or over $100 at times) with coins at JB HIFI :P

Can PayID be reversed/contested though? I've never even set it up and mates who regularly sell stuff online tell people who offer it to go jump.
Its the same as if someone transferred you money by entering your BSB + Account Number. And because it uses Osko you get the money almost instantly (assuming both the receiving and sending accounts have the functionality)

I have 3 PayIDs set up (2 emails and a phone number) and have used them plenty. I even used it to transfer my house deposit from the bank I was using at the time the bank that my home loan is with.

Like I said, I know its a meme among people who buy/sell on Gumtree/FB Marketplace but I've never understood why (but that could be because I haven't used either of those in years)

I'd have gladly refused a cretinous action. And legally as well.

This was in the pre covid (aka the cashless era beginning) and most places were grateful to get change as they would usually be running low :P.

Although (and as I've posted about in the General forum) I detest self serve, but have used it from time to time just to feed it the loose change I no longer want (yes I'm aware that act is also frowned upon... even though there are 20+ self serve areas open!).

oh that doesn't seem so bad then, thanks. Could have known and used that when I brought a brand new car last year and stuffed around with a bank cheque. We're on a subdivided lot and split the insurance with the other houses and I know the wife pays our share to one of the other owners who handles it all and that's been my only experience with it. It has a bad reputation which is why I never looked into it further but thanks for the info and I'll look into it when I find a buyer for the PC if that's what they want to do and not carry cash.

In high school I'd do things like go hungry and save my tuck shop money to buy games. I still remember having two big coffee jars full of silver, probably mostly 50c and 20c pieces. One day I asked my dad if he could go to Harvey Norman and get me C&C Tiberian Sun while I was at school. He didn't have time to get to the bank to exchange the coins so he said he took jars to HN and emptied them on the counter. Apparently the bloke didn't want to accept it but my dad could be quite coercive if he needed to be.

I've had a dream pc in mind for years (changing parts as technology gets newer). Sensible options about $3,000, my DREAM pc being $5000+ or more lol.

My first gaming laptop in 2021 was a stop gap, get something to keep gaming while I make up my mind. Well I got a second gaming laptop last year and totalling both laptops plus ssd & ram upgrades to both over the years.. I'd be somewhere between $5,500 - $6,000 lol.

I think switching back to a desktop is more ideal but again right place right time, value for money etc etc.
