Just checking up on r/bapcaustralia and it looks like a lot of 5080s, especially MSI, just came in recently and a lot of those orders finally being fulfilled. 5090 still no word and apparently not a single one arrived in March lol. Would have been nice but I don't regret my decision to swap to the 5080 at all.

Which one did you end up with?

How’s the performance? Running 4K?

Aorus Master. Thermals are really good as was expected as it is usually trading blows with the Astral in temp reviews. I haven't OC'd it yet but apparently there is a fair bit left in the tank. The Aorus Master has one of the highest factory boosts but as I don't want to mess with temps I'm leaving mine stock for the moment.

As for 4K no dramas. It's probably not a native 4K card but neither is the 5090 for the latest AAA games and also neither was the 4090 during its time. In AC Shadows I'm running the highest preset with DLSS Quality (I overrode the DLSS model to the new transformer model at driver level) and 2x frame gen and get 80-120fps and it feels really good. With Alan Wake 2 using 4x frame gen and DLSS performance there is some black magic going on, it's way too good.

No dramas with VRAM because I'm upscaling. So far Black Ops 6 uses the most but that's the only thing I run native due to being a competitive game and that's around 180'is fps.

There are some weird quirks currently though if you check one of my recent posts but that's due to driver issues. NVIDIA have really dropped the ball in the driver department at the moment unfortunately and that's the one thing you've been able to bet on being solid in the past.

Emailed PLE yesterday to get the ball rolling before the value of everything I own turns to dust thanks to the dickhead in the White House.

Basically emailed them my invoice from my current PC, told them the games i most enjoy (single player FPS like Far Cry, and Doom: The Dark Ages in my most anticipated game. I don't play online), and asked them to put together the 2025 equivalent of my 2015 PC.

Keen to see what they come back with.

ordered 66 days ago, GPU has arrived!

tested out Cyberpunk benchmark, if you guys remember when I did it for the lols on my old PC I had 4 fps with everything maxed out

got a solid 80-95 with settings maxed out including path tracing on, using the dlss transformer model. If you turn on all the AI frame shit gets to 140 odd, haven't played around that much. PC doesn't even get particular hot or loud either this is awesome!

How good is the transformer model?! DLSS Performance is like the original Quality setting. I notice it does retain the weird behaviour around UI elements and still has some ghosting/artefacts but it's entirely playable. I haven't tried Cyberpunk yet but will soon just to test it out. Alan Wake 2 is seriously impressive.

Also I didn't realise the Gaming Trio was only 2-3 slots? I just assumed they were all chonky because my Aorus Master is 4 slots...

yeah only 2 slots. I guess it might not cool as crazy as the chunkier ones but seemed fine on Cyberpunk so it'll probably be right on everything 😆 yeah I don't notice much if anything with DLSS transformer on. I even tried this frame gen 2x with path tracing on and it gets to 135fps and don't really notice any obvious negatives while playing either. this gon be good

put about 6 hours into Cyberpunk. good fun so far, graphics are insane. Did notice frame
gen making a weird shadowy glob on a wall in the underground carpark near the start of the game but otherwise haven't noticed anything else. playing on very hard and dying a bit but don't want it to be too easy. so many mechanics to think about it's a bit overwhelming atm

When you pixel peep frame gen you'll always find quirks. Depending on the DLSS setting these issues can compound so it's just finding the right bakance. For some people this is too much and places like Gamer's Nexus and HUB will dine out on because unless something is perfect they'll just bitch about it for days, but if you're like me and find it improves the other 99% of your experience you'll get over it and start to ignore them. The most obvious issues I find around around HUD elements. If you move the camera fast with frame gen on you'll notice pixels doing weird things around the edges of the HUD. This varies from game to game but I'll take frame gen every day in anything that isn't multiplayer. In AC Shadows with cranked settings I get about 50-60fps at 4K with DLSS Quality. It's playable but not smooth. Then with 2x frame gen it sits anywhere from 90-120 fps and is an amazing experience. I thought about trying 4x FG but currently it's indistinguishable from native so I don't want to introduce any weirdness.

dwwaino I really want you to post a "best gaming PC for $n,000 to $n,000" series :)
With $7K GPUs and $2K+ monitors you might need to go to $nn,000.
Bonus is you could also run some pretty reasonable AI locally and write it off for tax.

PLE's put together a quote for me that includes a 5080. Will post the specs here when I get home for dwwaino 's take 😊

Will no doubt be more expensive than elsewhere, but I do prefer the security of buying local and unfortunately PLE have no real competition in Perth, so it will be interesting/depressing to see just how much markup there is.

PLE seem decent.

I bought my last GPU from them.

I reckon if I was doing a new gaming build with a 5080 it would somewhere around $5K.
I tend to buy quality but not premium parts.

Initial quote was $5600 or so but it's gone up since cos I wanted a monitor/keyboard/mouse too as my current keyboard and mouse are 10 years old and my current monitor is only 1080p.

PLE have a good reputation, especially in Perth, but their Melbourne store had terrible service. Finally had a good experience the final time I shopped there and then they closed up a month later lol. Had to RMA that product though and despite being a bit slow it went smooth and they were really good with the emails (I honestly don't think they understood what was wrong so just agreed to replace it lol).

Prices are fairly competitive and consistent between the major guys like PLE, Scorptec, PCCG, Mwave etc and I agree it's better to shop with those sorts for peace of mind.

Thoughts dwwaino and others?

My initial thoughts is that the NVMe SSD should be at least 2TB, and I'm also thinking Gen4 for what I'm being quoted.

I will research every single component today but would appreciate any advice.

At first glance looks pretty reasonable apart from Gen3 1TB OS drive. I'd be looking at Gen4 and 2TB.

I've got no idea on how good the mouse is but I love my wireless Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed - the V3 is cheaper than the one listed.

Personal preference for me is a wired keyboard - I found wireless chew through batteries. (love a wireless mouse though)

I would definitely get a newer 2tb, maybe even 2tb plus another 1 or 2tb as a second drive.
You will get close to filling 1tb with OS plus a few AAA games and some files

also I haven't read all your other posts in detail but if you're mainly gaming then you could save a little and get 9800x3d, performs much the same a lot of the time and some games even better

ill let dwwaino comment on most of the other stuff but looks fine enough
