TL;DR

New pc + monitor purchased in July/August last year.

Some corners cut to make the cost cheaper

One such corner cut...... I knew that my old crappy Logitech speakers wouldn't cut the mustard so my "monitor" purchase was made with built in speakers in mind. They sounded ok (mileage varies not worse or much better than decent laptop speakers).

I've rigged the pc to my lounge room, including HT set-up, most recently as this past week during Easter. That inspired me to "waste" more money and sort out a speaker set-up for the computer.

I've settled on the Edifier MR3 - I know theres better out there but after a test - the price + actual diameter of the speakers suit my desk.... I hopefully won't feel the need to upgrade from them, but you never know. My first choice speakers were smaller.... and double the price.

Edifier MR3s are pocket rockets and pretty decent. I had a pair of Audioengine A2+ that are slightly smaller but were pretty impressive. I hope to one-day set my home studio back up and get my Rokit 6s out but I don't have the room for anything currently.

I had too many to pick from, the MR 3's were my original choice... then I switched to a few others...... including the A2+ (couldn't justify the price though).

My aim was to start off with something good and (hopefully) not want to upgrade in 12-24 months time lol as with everything else I've done over the last few years eg: start off with smaller ram/ssd sizes... but end up upgrading to something bigger shortly after anyway.

I had my heart set on the ADAM Audio D3V for a few days (until last night in fact haha), had a change of heart at the last moment.

Could probably get by with a small sub if you need an easy upgrade, Edifier do some cheaper ones with RCA out.

A few years ago I went from an ancient 2.1 computer speaker set to small cheap bookshelf speakers running off a small USB Amp/DAC, now I'm running $1k bookshelf speakers and a compact Audioengine sub. It can be an expensive rabbit hole.

Who'd own a PC.
In bed sick all day. Turn PC on tonight (from hibernation) and white post led.

Try to fix by reseating GPU power cords. Nothing. Tried getting my hand in to click the PCIe latch for 10 minutes only to realise I was reaching in pushing on some sort of cooling cover. Reseated.

Now get red CPU error. Unplug 24 pin connector.
Now back to white led.

Half an hour later.

Switch monitor from DP to HDMI and back to DP.

PC turns on.

facepalm GIF

When I moved house last I didn't set my computer up for a few weeks. When I turned it on my motherboard and RAM RGB were red and got no image on the screen. Several restarts and reseating components later I looked up the debug code on the motherboard and that said everything was fine and it made it through POST. Turns out the RGB just defaulted to red because after being off for a while it wipes any non-crucial settings and there was no image because for some reason the monitor wasn't even turned on...

I never had a single monitor problem (except for the doofus not plugging in or switching on) until DP came along.

Worst example was laptop with docking station and two monitors at work - could get two out of three displays operating, everything I tried just changed which one went black. Still have NFI why it did it or how I got it working.

3060Ti, 16GB, i5 11400F.

Most with similar specs are 1000-1200.

Some dude just asked for it for $700 lol.

Got any offers for swaps yet? I've used Marketplace once and that was to sell my old PC that I rebuilt that I rebuilt around 32gb RAM, 4080 and a 5900x and got absolutely hammered with low balls like you and several "would you take a 4060 + cash?" type offers.

Sometimes it's just timing. I took it down and put it up a month later and got a genuine buyer witihn 24 hours who was actually super cool. I've got a 5080 sitting here that's going to start depreciating again as these RAM prices normalise but I really can't be arsed going through the Marketplace experience again. I wanted to use Ebay as I've still got the box for the 5080 and could post it but Ebay has changed since I used it last and they want your bank account details to pay for the listing and I read that once you add your details to Ebay once you can't remove it.

What does a 5080 sell for currently?

Around $2000 new give or take about $200 depending on which one it is. A quick search of marketplace I only find a few being sold in Melbourne on their own for around the same price as new. I can't find any cheaper but I don't think they're actually selling.

Realistically I think I could get around $1800 for a 5080 Aorus Master with box and only about 3 months of use but I can't be bothered waiting for that buyer to come by and put up with easily over 100 messages again of absolute rubbish.

finished the Factorio demo over the past week or two

really good..solid demo, 10-20 hours available. I feel like if I buy this I may be out for a few months or maybe years

The new Steam Controller looks pretty neat. No haptics or rumbles in the triggers seems a bummer at that price point but still looks like a pretty cool thing to own. I'll probably grab one for the novelty of being able to play m/kb only games while reclining with a controller.

I don't need at all (as have the xbox elite for my pc gaming) but I want it as it looks sick and everything I've seen has been positive. Plus I'm a Steam cuck.

I got the original one when they started clearing them out a few years ago (think I basically paid $100 for a controller and Steam Link), it was ok but the touch pads were a novelty that wore off. If I was gaming from a couch I'd be more inclined to try one out, but I think I'll stick to KB/M and Xbox style controllers for now.

Looks like they may not be compatible with Game Pass initially either, if that's an issue for you.

I just want to see how it goes with stuff like Cities Skylines and Two Point Hospital that don't have gamepad support even though it would probably still be arse for Cities. It's unlikely to replace my other controllers but it's actually a bit of unique tech that I think I just want to get one to try out.

Do you guys have a Steam deck? Just want to know how well the track pads translate to what I assume is WASD+mouse.
Had one. Sold it.
Not sure if it was a dodgy GPU die or some undiagnosed compatability issues but couldn't get anything but basic games to run.

And unlike Switch/PC/PS5 etc etc when there was a graphical issue rather than having a fps crash for a couple of seconds it would instead just completely crash. Literally couldn't get out of the Elden Ring tutorial at the start. Other games were similar.
