My NAS drives are 2 and 6TB sizes. If any fail I’ll be looking at 8TB or larger as replacements. No need for more drive bays just get bigger drives.

My issue is I have 4x 8TB that are all close to capacity, and given they realistically have life in them I'm tempting to get the expansion kit and throw a couple of my old drives in there for storing crap I don't necessarily care about. The main unit will probably get some big (14TB+) cheap Amazon specials or shucked externals

I built my own Unraid server (repurposed old PC and got a huge case with heaps of 3.5” bays) no need for expansion units.

Yeah I did that for a while, but wanted to go the low effort route for a bit of a change, and grabbed a QNAP NAS.

If they still make Home NASable cases that aren't 4RU rackmount behemoths when I need to replace it I'll probably go the custom route again.

This is the one I got.

I’ve got six 3.5” drives in at the moment and a couple of SSDs and can still fit a couple more 3.5” drives in.

I was thinking something more compact like the Silverstone DS380 or Fractal Node 304, haven't really got the room for another tower.

used to have a Node 304, you need to be careful with the larger capacity drives as the default trays for the 304 don't support them.

Fractal will just ship you a bunch of updated trays , but they ain't default

sataris you should get one of these to multi-thread your pron faster

350W TDP

Ok team I need some help.

I need a printer for home, after 18 years of using company resources I have moved into a hybrid situation.

I'm think color laserjet, scanner, copy and 2 sided.

Not sure whats out there, I see something like this would do the trick.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

All printers suck.

Laser is certainly the way to go, all I can suggest is check/compare the cost of toner/fuser replacements to a couple of others.

Laser ftw

Are you 100% sure you need colour?

Mono lasers are like 1,000,000 % cheaper.

But dav3 is correct, all printers suck.

For the record: This is the one I bought HirdyLannister

it's "ok"

I'm starting to look around to upgrade my i7-2600 3.40GHz, Asus Mobo P8Z77-V LX, 16 Gig RAM as I can't upgrade to Win 11 and having the PC blue screen freeze occasionally.

I'm looking to keep using my SSD, case, fans, GeForce RTX 3060 Ti etc.

I'm generally streaming Netflix etc, playing games (GTA online, Grim Dawn, Witcher 3) so although I don't need the highest specs I usually go for them when I've designed a PC previously as I know it's a bit future proof.

Is now a good time (I know it's never a good time) to upgrade? And, anyone have any suggestions for a CPU, MB, RAM combo?

Who knows.

Something like this bundle should keep you sweet for several years and give you scope to upgrade your GPU if you're wanting 1440 or 4K gaming in the future.

You'd need to get a cooler for this. https://www.scorptec.com.au/bundle/cpu/amd-socket-am5/1693-bdl-1693 would be more than adequate.

I'd also recommend a 1 or 2 TB M2 drive if you're going to update the core of your system. Kingston KC3000 is pretty nice and well priced from Amazon.

If you haven't replaced your PSU during the life of your system I'd suggest a new PSU as well.
