Do you guys have a Steam deck? Just want to know how well the track pads translate to what I assume is WASD+mouse.
I have a Steam Deck, don't think I would ever use the left trackpad for WASD I'd just use the joystick for movement. though there was a game I used it as a dpad instead of the actual dpad, can't remember what?

trackpads mostly used for mouse only kinda games (strategy, CRPG maybe) and they work great for that, or you can bind other stuff to the trackpads for loads more keybinds than a normal controller, or kinda make it a radial menu or whatever. or for typing in games with on-screen keyboard

I'm absolutely gonna buy the Steam Controller just due to being a Valve cuck like omgfridge

Had one. Sold it.
Not sure if it was a dodgy GPU die or some undiagnosed compatability issues but couldn't get anything but basic games to run.

And unlike Switch/PC/PS5 etc etc when there was a graphical issue rather than having a fps crash for a couple of seconds it would instead just completely crash. Literally couldn't get out of the Elden Ring tutorial at the start. Other games were similar.
I don't have those issues but still I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a Steam Deck if they want to play demanding games especially if they're used to a gaming PC with good framerate

is not a great experience playing Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, BG3 etc imo. I only play the likes of Balatro, Vampire Survivors, Starwdew, Emulators, Ball Pit, Hades, Drova etc and it's great for that with 8-9hr battery life. it kinda got me into these games as I never played these types before purchasing it

I just want to see how it goes with stuff like Cities Skylines and Two Point Hospital that don't have gamepad support even though it would probably still be arse for Cities. It's unlikely to replace my other controllers but it's actually a bit of unique tech that I think I just want to get one to try out.
I'd die for my steamdeck. I run Two Point Museum on the deck (one of the few unverified games I do) and it runs completely fine. Closest thing I'd play to Cities on there is Halo Wars which also haven't had an issue with. Still genre of games I think PC with traditional mouse/keyboard can't be bettered.

I'm very much the same. I do play BG3 time to time on it but definitely prefer that on my PC. a high end game like Cyberpunk is not what I bought the Steamdeck for. Something like Control would probably be on the highest end I play on my deck. Play mostly what you said, rougelites especially. Slay the Spire II and Hades 2 getting the most attention lately.

While RAM and graphics cards might be up it's not all doom and gloom for anyone who might have been thinking about an upgrade or something new. Motherboard market might be on the way to crashing due to their lowest sales in a decade. Might not save much on a low-mid range board but also might be a good opportunity to "future proof" (as much as you can anyway in this hobby and as far as a motherboard goes) with a good price on a high end motherboard.

Scalpers have already made short work of the Steam Controller.
bought it when I woke up that day, already arrived. feels good, probably become my main controller due to the magnetic puck+battery life. feels larger than most which is good for me as most controllers feel too small and hurt my fingers. some people said it feels cheap but I don't get that, doesn't feel any worse than ps or xbone controllers

touchpads work great but I probably won't have that much use until I set up another PC in the main room. could use them for extra controls but haven't really tested that yet

What time did you order that day? I checked when I was getting ready for work around 6am that morning and it said out of stock which is what I expected. Then I was surprised to keep reading on Reddit all day people being able to get one. I assume it was going in and out of stock all day. I've been looking since just in case and just now as I check I see they've added a reservation button which sticks you in a queue and you get an email when you're next and have 3 days to pay. That's a pretty neat system IMO.

I bought at 6:08am. Had no issues, purchase went straight through. I think it didn't fully sell out in Australia until around midday.

Sounds similar to when I bought the white Steam Deck. PayPal purchase was glitching out and then it said sold out and I thought I missed out, then about 30 min later my gf messaged me to try again and it was back up and I used card instead

reservation queue is nice idea

Had the brainwave to upgrade my laptops wifi card. The card itself was easy to take out AND insert the new one. But connecting the mini cables as the antennas is a frustrating experience lol.
I did that, broke one of the cables and eventually scrapped the whole laptop because I couldn't fix the cable or have the money to get it soldered.

Fairly sure I busted the new wifi card :P
plugged one cable in right away, the other cable refuses to sit in.................... but the original card plugged back in instantly.

Luckily I was running a dummy test on an OLDER laptop before going to do it for real on my current/main one. But that plan is on hold for now. I still want to try it at some point. The strange thing is the wifi card in my current laptop is meant to be poor performing. Yet I havn't had the documented issues (dropouts, disappearing wifi etc)....... the card I was going to replace it with.... was a newer model of the card in my 2021 laptop (freaky!).

I wanted to test a newer card in the current laptop to see if there was an improvement. I'm trying to solve why I've had poor performance when gaming (ping/latency issues) online. The download/upload speeds are normal when using the internet itself. And yes I know the response would likely me "well you're using wifi to begin with so of course your connection won't be as good as direct/wired when gaming". Which is a valid point itself - EXCEPT that prior to late last year my wifi connection was relatively stable (ping between 15-29). Something happened from September and it hasn't been the same since. The ping when using that laptop for gaming over wifi jumps all over the place.

God, fighting games on wifi 😳 that must be interesting!

I’m sure you have a good reason but yeah, would never do it myself.

It's how I've been gaming for years, (even on Xbox/Playstation too lol). There is a clear difference between wired/wireless I know and have experienced this. But wireless is more convenient and (until my recent issues) haven't suffered greatly in terms of win/losses in the different types of online games I play on the laptop itself. But yeah since September I've seen the connection deteriorate (ping and lag spikes galore, when it RARELY happened previously) - don't get me wrong I know "wired connection" is king.

On another topic (previously discussed on here) I purchased a 4TB ssd shortly after buying my new pc in September last year for $344. That same ssd is now $1069 on special for $849 on Scorptec. I nearly died haha!

My dream of a few 8tb ssds in my other devices is a longggggggggg way away from happening, when they're $4000 + lol.

Yeah, I just made the point because out of all genres, I can’t think of a more difficult one to play via wifi than fighting games, which I know you love!

It’s not a good look but regardless of inconvenience, i’ve just run network cables all over the place when needed. Not sure of your setup, but it’s normally not too pricey to get some wall outlets installed.

I manage, my skill level is ok....... can cover slight lag differentials :P.

Funny story, back in the day I had a 50m network cable running from the spare room where the main desktop and modem are.... leading into my lounge room. It was about 30m longer than needed but oh well lol. That was mostly when I wanted to rig the desktop to my lounge room TV at the time.

I got that idea from when I used a slightly shorter crossover cable to play certain games over a "network" (think Medal of Honor Allied Assault, classic COD, Doom etc) with visitors on another pc.

Was a priority when I built my place.

Have one in each bedroom, the study, the home theatre and two in the family room. 8 in total.

Should have put in more in the theatre and study but it'll do ☺️ Ethernet from PC to router, then from router to the wall makes me happy.

When the missus and I were looking at relocating 3 years ago or so, if the address didn’t already have fttp I wouldn’t let it on the shortlist. Networks these days are as important as water and sewage.

A few months after we moved into our new place, ABB started offering 2GB plans. I then got to do my best ‘i told you so dance’ and we lived happily ever after.
