First step in getting a role at Fremantle.
Today I found it pretty hard to find all our players as the listed numbers were rarely correct and even the numbers some of them wore last year were different again. I didn't comment much on our back line players earlier because they didn't really have a lot to do most of the game. It must be pretty daunting for a young Perth side to come up against Logue, Hughes, Nyhuis and Duman in defence. They did manage to kick two goals against them at the start of the 2nd half but other than that our defenders rarely got out of second gear all game. There was plenty of end to end transition from our players but it wasn't under a great deal of pressure from the Demons so take with a grain of salt. Hughes and Duman played pretty far up the ground at times. Duman used his speed and disposal really well a few times, and I don't remember Hughes' opponent ever touching the ball. Logue won every 1-on-1 i50 marking contest I saw - his body positioning is really improving. And I don't think Nyhuis' opponent saw much of the ball but that's nothing new at WAFL level. I honesty didn't notice Spurr all game so perhaps someone else can comment on him?
I thought Kersten did some nice things without starring. One passage on the wing he worked really well off Apeness who beat 3 opponents to the ball in a pack. Got it out to Kersten who did a great kick down the line and it ended up in an easy goal. Apeness played ruck for a majority of the game which I thought he did great as. Perhaps a little unfortunate we didn't get to see him playing as a KPF but I'm sure our many other ruck options will be available for Peel shortly. Jetta can still kick goals from anywhere. Bell took some great grabs. Ugle kicked a really nice goal. Traye Bennell's body shape isn't looking that great (hardly recognised him) - should not be on the same diet/fitness regime that Jetta and Ugle are on. Kaine Ah-Chee as a new young recruit looks pretty lively as well - one worth keeping an eye on.
The highlight was the very young midfield though. Crowden's agility and disposal is truly a weapon. He finds space with his speed and hits leading targets beautifully. And he can kick a goal himself from any range. I think his endurance is the only thing holding him back atm, and that's easily fixable in an elite environment. If he handles the step up to AFL we have struck gold. Cerra reads the taps really well. I was excited about Balic in the middle a couple of years ago. I think Cerra is a big upgrade - isn't super quick but just slows down time. I'm assuming it was Howlett (#2) in the middle quite a bit as well - it's almost unfair Peel managed to secure his services. North was solid all game but not as noticeable as the others imo. Liked how he positioned himself behind the ball though. For a first hit out I was pretty impressed at how they all worked together - but the disclaimer is the opposition was far from AFL quality.
Saw Darcy walking around with Carter. And Dixon went and grabbed a sandwich at one point (eat eat eat!). Good to see these guys there supporting their team mates. Can't wait to see Dixon and Carter playing for Peel in the coming weeks. When you turn over 22 players in 2 seasons it's pretty hard not to enjoy watching the 2nds. So much to like about watching both Freo and Peel this season.

Freo can match a bid through the points system.
Swit has been training well like most of the new recruits
Switkowski has been on a running programme to strengthen the hamstring he injured last season.
He doesn't appear to be restricted much but doesn't get involved much in drills. Should join in main group next couple of weeks I expect. Fairly light build that will need some work though.

Reading it I'm thinking our the restump completes a molecular rebuild of the club.Improved foundations,structures etcetera all the way from top to bottom.Great recent recruiting to correct weaknesses.
Given where we've been,what we've changed and who we've got on board I'm quite liking where we're headed as well.

I understand the quality of opponent was weak but I can’t remember a time since the first year draftees have taken out 1,2 and 3 in the best players ( in supporters opinions) in early games.
Fills me with great hope that the level of quality in the list has gone up a level.

Yeah that was my take home as well. It was a very young and inexperienced Perth team but Crowden, Cerra and North are the same. And it wasn't even the game outcome that impressed me, it was some of the skill execution. Some of the kicking was sublime. Not just hitting leading targets inside 50 but low trajectory kicks that the forwards couldn't have asked to place any better. Whether they can do it under considerably increased pressure is the question mark.
