i'm sure over 40's know who MJ is...
go ask a 10yr old kid who MJ is.. and who Pele is...
your point is??

why dont u think MJ will be remembered in 30yrs time?
MJ, who happened to to be the greatest, also played in the greatest era of basketball.. during the 80s and early 90s...

yes... at the top level, u have to at least be of a certain ability to be able to get in... thats the case with all sports played at their highest level..

as ant mentioned before... pele isnt even universally regarded by experts as the greatest soccer player.. i've read many times, that experts opinions range from maradonna (quite often), di stefano, and others...

When ppl think Basketball, Michael Jordan springs to mind. He will be forever remembered and why not...you always remember the greatest of each sport thats why Babe Ruth, Pele, Ali, Bradman etc etc will always be remembered. Jordan is basketball.

And what the hell is that 6'4 crap about....there is tonnes of players under 6'4 in the NBA??? That comment suggest you know little about basketball.

Oh and Pele is better than Maradonna or should we say the Hand of God...

We will remember who Jordan was in 150 years time, let alone 30.

Will you Dan, and how old will you be then, 175?:D

Pele is known by more people throughout the world than Jordan by the simple fact that soccer is the most followed and popular game in the world. And a much better sport to boot.

Well, I think this one is closer than many of you think, although maybe it could be Jordan, it could also be Pele. I think in 3-4 years when the jordan thing dies down Pele will still be incredibly famous worldwide. By the way it's useless asking different aged people here in Oz, you must remember most of the world is not like here. I think we went over that in the other thread although I'm not sure Dan got the jist too well!!!

Too hard to call.
Pele and Maradona would be the two most famous soccer players. Jordan by far the most famous basketballer.
Now even tho Soccer is played in far more countries than Basketball is...i reckon Jordan would be just as or if not more famous than Pele or Maradona. The thing is you dont need to really play Basketball or know much about Basketball to know who Jordan is. Jordan is bigger than the sport. Just look at the amount of sponership and advertising the guy did. Id go as far as saying more people know about Jordan than actually know about Basketball. People would of heard of Jordan without actually knowing really who he is.

Id say both Pele and Jordan would be equally as famous.

Listen Dan you have a certain perception of the world, probably quite like the one I had before I went overseas, and I have a different one.

I've read books, I've seen docco's, I've spoken to people, but I've also been there and done it myself and might I say that all the reading, talking and idiotbox watching taught me about 1/1,000,000th of what I learn't whilst travelling. That's about how I look at your credibility and opinion on a topic such as these, you just haven't got a clue what it's really like mate, believe me.

Your ego and arrogance is amazing, to think you know more than me about the world and what it's like, just amazing.

I think that quote about sums up all these "famous" threads.

Neeeeiggghhh, hope you don't fall of that high horse of yours!! ;)

I don't think I'm smarter or better than him nor you or anyone else.

When Sheedy played James Hird at full-back on Gary Ablett during a round 11 match in 1995, I though I was a hell of a lot smarter than him. So did the Bomber fans around me, all of whom agreed with me that Hird should be moved! :D

Jordan is better how many times has Jordan sunk baskets on the buzzer to send the Chicago bulls to a victory. Yes Pele was good but Mike was better. I dont believe im biased im not really a huge fan of Nike and i rate Socer higher than basketball. Michael Jordan was someone who had incredible sense ofwhere things are.

Pele was someone who was able to do new and phenominal things that hadn't been tried before, yes because of him Soccer changed greatly in the way it was played.

But Michael Jordan was just way above everyone else and it still shows he is still racking up 40 plus points each game after all the young "guns" said he is passed it and will get a lesson in basketball. From what ive seen Michael seems to be giving out lessons, it's a pitty that his team dont learn from these lessons.

Although I rate Maradona as a player, possibly better than Pele......Pele is

- Most successful player from late 50's - mid 70's
- An icon for world sportsmanship
- An ambassador for the game

Maradona was an amazing talent, but he also was
- Drug Cheat
- Not a role Model

So Pele gets the nod ;)

Out of MJ and Pele, its real hard...but considerign Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and considering that somethin like 27 yrs after retirement, Pele is still talked about.

Plus remember no one in the world has seen what Pele has done, Not all games of his were broadcasted, unlike the NBA.

Anyway...Pele (Just)
