I'm still confused about the appeal against his conviction. Did his lawyer not admit guilt when calling it 'a vanilla sex act' and it being on the lower end of the scale?Nah, the Court of Appeal getting all wig and gown and letting him go on a technicality - with all the posturing and shouting from Bolt and co that would entail - would be the worst outcome.
Pell doesn't care about much except his legacy. Knowing he'd die a convicted sex offender would be hell to him.

He's in his late 70s with heart problems. Six years or 20, this is essentially a life sentence, he'll probably die in jail.I was expecting Pell to get a fair whacking here but instead, he has ended up getting off too lightly.
The judge initially sounded like he was going to lay a big smackdown but he gave Pell a discount on the sentence due to his age which in my opinion is totally wrong.
3 years & 8 months non-parole period is just not enough for a sex offender who held such a high position of trust.

The defence can’t argue the defendant’s innocence when appealing to the judge on sentencing grounds. The jury had already found Pell guilty. Only at the appeal hearings can he argue Pell’s innocence or more correctly errors in law made during the trial by the judge and/or jury.I'm still confused about the appeal against his conviction. At advanced age I assume Pell is pretty low priority and far down the queue for organs. Rockefeller could probably afford to pay someone who was still alive to give up their heart for him.How is he too old? Didn't that Rockerfeller bloke have like 4 transplants in his 90s?

Not sure how accurate it is, but heard today he needs to admit guilt to get parole? Not sure how that works, but as I see it if the appeal fails he either admits guilt, gets out in three, and is presumably defrocked/cast out of the Catholic Church, or he does the full six, maintains innocence, and gets a pension.
Then again the 'admit guilt to get parole' kind of sounds like BS so who knows.
I thought that Justice Kidd was quite outstanding in such a high profile and difficult case.
"J" is quite simply a National Hero.
What he has taken on, and will continue to take on through to the appeal, is just outstanding. Unbelievable in fact.
I cannot even begin to imagine what he is dealing with right now, but he has my never-ending respect and admiration.
For people to quite openly call him a liar on here is beyond my comprehension.
Hi ShanDog . This guy is still posting his trolling rubbish after calling for the death of a current politicians father.
Yet I get a day off for wishing that his father withdrew before ejaculation?
That's all good.
I now understand how this place works.
Protective custodyI hope he isn't too frail to start grabbing his ankles.
Yeah I feel the same I would had like a much longer non paroled period but with 6 years sentenced I can see why it was limited to 3 years and 8 monthsGiven the parameters, I feel like the six years is about right - would have liked to have seen a longer non-parole period given his utter lack of remorse, but you can't win them all.
Is it justice for the victim? Only he can answer that.
But Pell will probably die in jail, having spent his days sitting in a very small cell, with none of the robes, none of the pomp, none of the political influence, rightly vilified as an abuser of children by the community he lorded over, bullied and shit on. That's something.
If you google it, it says you don't have to admit guilt to get parole. But it can certainly help you if you are remorseful of your crime. I suppose it would depend on whether the Parole Board thinks Pell will reoffend or not. I don't think him getting parole is a total given, especially because of the nature of the crime. It's a question I raised earlier in the thread. As yet unresolved.
I am familiar with a historic (family) sexual abuse case in the UK where someone was sentenced to 9 years and served all 9 years rather than 6 due to him claiming to this day that he is innocent and not undergoing therapy as a condition of his parole.
Because the judge has to deal within the parameters he is bound by.How is that rubbish? It was a genuine question. How is Pell too old if they do the transplant on people in their 90s.
You probably got a day off because you personally insult everyone and call them a cretin if they don't share views that align with the interests of farming
Judge Kidd did note that he rejects the prosecution claim that Pell lack of remorse indicates a risk to re offendIf you google it, it says you don't have to admit guilt to get parole. Fair enough, Cat. Did not know the judge said that.Judge Kidd did note that he rejects the prosecution claim that Pell lack of remorse indicates a risk to re offend
And we are talking about Victoria parole system ...of course he will be paroled
Quite simply, you're a grub.
Could be just a ploy to starve off a successful appealFair enough, Cat. Did not know the judge said that.
You need to try to stop personally insulting everyone on this forum. It displays your inability to handle a debate with others of superior smarterness.
Simply dismissing mixomatosis and animal crulety/live export doesn't stop them being real issues. It's also not how you win an argument.
