Appeal lodged.

Pell’s barrister, Robert Richter QC, filed an appeal against the conviction on 21 February. That could obviously take some time to play out, but the appeal is based on the following grounds:

1 - The verdict of the jury was unreasonable, in contrary to the evidence before them
2 - It was not right that defence were not allowed to present jurors with a digital animation they intended to screen during their closing address
3 - The way the jury was constituted was unfair
Richter is one of the best criminal defence barristers there is, combined with the rest of the legal team sure the victims like the church paying for that when the victims under Pell's plan got pocket change. Mind you he does defend people no one else probably wants to like Julian Knight.

Pell isn't well don't be surprised if he doesn't see too much, if any time in jail whilst living in some luxury provided by the church whilst the various appeals take a while.

Not sure that I ever believed the story of him being unwell.

Even Richter has admitted that some form of gaol time is inevitable.

Ironic that the only way he’ll face real justice is if the afterlife his church sells to prospective members turns out to be real.

At least it puts his role in covering up the crimes of other Catholic pedos into proper context if nothing else.

Yeah I heard last year that a lot of journos and legal community were surprised at the verdict.

At what point does the greedy Catholic church change its 'married to the church doctrine'. Even the church itself admits it has far more paedos on its book than in society.

Any institution banning love between man and woman, which is the most basic and primal aspects of humanity, should not and should never have been trusted.

It seems common sense. Not even in hindsight.

Maybe pell and church will be sued civilly now , church has a bit of money in real estate, churches seem to be highest spot in areas

Worth considering it's the alternate. The rules don't make them like this. The rules and general community had attracted people already like this.

Simply that is very difficult, that's why the victims cop Pell's plan 'generous' 20/50k

Dozens of journalists have been threatened with a charge of contempt of court – and could face possible jail terms – over reporting of the Cardinal George Pell trial.

Victoria’s director of public prosecutions, Kerri Judd QC, has written to as many as 50 individual publishers, editors, broadcasters, reporters and subeditors at the media giants News Corp Australia, Nine Entertainment, the ABC and several smaller publications, accusing them of breaching a nationwide suppression order imposed during the case.

Show-cause notices were sent to the journalists in early February saying that they had potentially interfered with the administration of justice and scandalised the court.

The ones who do not have a strong enough explanation could be prosecuted.

Child abuse also known to be self.perpetuating. Any institution whose very rules allow, encourages or fosters an environment for child abuse should be dismantled. Or at the very least have the rules changed that both attract and perpetuate child abuse.

I would ban any institution that permanently forbids the sexual union of man and woman. Be they buddhist monks or catholic priests. Permanent forced sexual abstinence creates a breeding ground for sexual dysfunction and human sickness of which one maninfestation is the sexual abuse of children IMO.

And lets be honest the Church's primary reason for abstinence was financial and not theological as it was to ensure no one inherited anything but the Church.

I revealed in another thread that I am a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, and I'm sure I'm not alone on this site.
When one of these animals gets put away it makes our life just that little easier to endure.
However when one such as Pell, who did so much harm to survivors through his (in)actions and obstinate defence of his peers gets put away it makes a very big difference to us indeed.
I hope he is enjoying his very own personal hell from now on.

A good read by David Marr.

https://www.theguardian.com/austral...l-waged-war-on-sex-even-as-he-abused-children

As an archbishop in Melbourne and a cardinal in Sydney Pell poured his energies into combating contraception, homosexuality, genetic engineering, divorce, equal marriage and abortion.

He was particularly brutal to homosexuals. When a wreath was laid outside St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne in memory of gay students in Catholic schools driven to suicide, Pell’s disdain was absolute.

“I haven’t got good statistics on the reasons for those suicides,” he declared. “If they are connected with homosexuality, it is another reason to be discouraging people going in that direction. Homosexual activity is a much greater health hazard than smoking.”

Pell did nothing to curb paedophile priests in his years as auxiliary bishop, though the predations of some of the worst were being reported to him. He didn’t know enough, he would claim, and he didn’t have the authority to act. Despite the pleas of parents and teachers, Pell left mad Father Searson, toting a gun and terrifying children, in charge of the primary school in Doveton
