But... perhaps what this should do, for people belonging to the Catholic Church, is perhaps make them ponder a cornerstone to their belief, for example, and from Wikipedia (so it's probably not true);

My criminal law mates where saying nothing!! I hate Pell with every fiber of my being but Sacristies after mass are like back stage at a play - there are heaps of people about.

That said the fact that the complainant survived cross examination by Richter should give people pause

Most Catholics are appalled with the Church (Especially the younger generation). Reform is needed and I believe will take place.

However, people using this to smear all Catholics (Even the ones who aren't defending Pell, like me), not the Church and the institution which should be blamed but all Catholics are not helping anyone and are using the victims of these horrible crimes to push their own agenda.

The argument could be made that everyday Catholics contribute to the problem by donating funds used to defend pedophiles.

Do note though that Hollywood is also full of rapists and pedophiles. So watching a movie or paying a netflix subscription could be seen in a similar light.

When someone is accused of a heinous crime the best thing to do is reserve judgement while erring on the side of the victim. Bolt’s stance after the verdict is to disagree with the judgement and posit a conspiracy against Pell.

In a normal society, Bolt would be shunned, but so long as he’s the Smithers to Murdoch’s Burns he will survive.

Despite this being an unpopular opinion there’s a lot of good work done in the community by the catholic leity. I feel sorry for those volunteers out there who will be having crises of confidence of what their church means to them
