For or against, no one was waiting around until yesterday to have an opinion on Cardinal Pell.

Believe me, the point of my post was not that Abbott is smart. It was that he is a scumbag.

That's alot of them I used to work parliament house a long time ago in a pretty low level capacity. Most people who I know who have met Abbott actually like him and apparently is a very helpful local member, but is a Jeckel/Hyde scenario with his public persona.

The likes of Bolt and Devine may like to see themselves as mouthpieces for the so called conservatives but on this issue they will find few friends although this will probably become a new issue for them to rant about for the next twenty years or so.

It is not often that I say a positive thing about Abbott but he has done the right thing in not commenting on this case.

More keeping his head down out of pure embarrassment.

Everyone is reading between the lines here because very few people have actually heard the evidence.

However, if Pell's lawyer is arguing that the abuse is on some sort of lower level then that is accepting that the abuse happened. I am not sure how anyone can defend Pell in light of this.

Pell's own lawyer has stated that abuse happened.

That won't help, even if Pell wins on appeal, there'll still be a retrial.

I dunno how anyone can jump strongly one way or another on this. Religion personally gives me the shits but on the face of it this all boils down to one persons word being believed over anothers. With the profile and media shenanigans around this its also hard to see how the jury haven't been affected. Then again i hate pedophiles with a passion and if he's done it I hope he dies in prison.
