Do I think pell is guilty, yes. I do also believe he didn't have a fair trial. Why? Because for years the media have championed the cause to bring down the Catholic church. They continually ran stories that made out sexual abuse to be a problem confined to the church, and not in any other religion. Eventually something was going to come up and the accused was going to be found guilty due to the unconscious bias of the jury

It's amazing how the Catholic Church (and Pell as a by-product) can somehow be turned into the victim here. Just amazing.

assuming Pell is guilty, it demonstrates there this stuff went on relatively in the open, the organization saw no need to police itself until it had to.
I don't see that from other organizations in the enquiry, or not so much, an under cover thing.

Poor old Catherine did get a pretty shit hand in life, married off to a stranger at 16, then having to marry his brother after her first husband died, then locked away to die in a freezing castle knowing her second husband was rooting around and would probably kill their daughter if given the chance.

I think you're blaming the cart for pushing the horse on this one. It's the other way around, there have been so many stories about child abuse within the Catholic Church because they have had so many child abusers and have refused to deal with the problem honestly. The Catholic Church has been reported on more than other religions because they are worse at it.

We need some sort of global civil action for billions of dollars against the Vatican/Catholic church for the systematic (at least tacitly) cover up of child abuse and by inference its approval.

The sooner belief in the bearded man in the sky is consigned to the dustbin of history as the fairy tale superstition built on mans inability to understand at the time perfectly natural events the better off humanity will be.
