Well no. Not end of. If that was the criteria all of the townnof Mortlake, half of Ballarat, most of Apollo Bay, and half of Edenhope would be similarly guilty.

As it happens, there is no direct evidence that Pell knew of any of them bar one Christian Brother who he did report to the head of the Christian Brothers.
That's what I call victim blaming on a grand scale.

Well it’s the difference between allowing people a belief system and throwing people in gaol for years.

It’s part of the justice system. The Judeo-Christian justice system.
A belief system that says flat out - no, i will not report further cases of molestation despite it being illegal to not do so as my deity says i shouldnt break the confessional.

Some filthy pervert can bang as many kids as he wants - three different kids a day if he wants - confess once a week and father mcfiddly will absolve him and do nothing.

However - as was the case a few months ago, father mclightfingers stole from the catholic church.

Was he moved to a new diocese?

Was he protected by the church?

Did they forgive him and tell him not to do it again?

Did they f#<|<!!!!

He was reported straight to the police and charges pressed.

Which pretty much tells you every thing you need to know about this disgusting organisation. Ie: Its a racket - it should be taxed.

These blokes are not confessing their abuse in the confessional. And you can be assured that absolution wouldn’t be granted absent admissions to authorities. The whole confession thing is a red herring.

As it happens, Pell made some 70 referrals to VicPol. Ashton said they’d made none and the next day Pell produced the files. It was not long after that that VicPol opened the Pell investigation. Without a complainant. Strange that.

My advice to you is, before you hate something, you’d do well to try to understand it.

I’m not victim blaming one bit. I do occasionally wonder why more wasn’t done by those with direct knowledge (including cops) of Ridsdale’s abuse but I also understand that the 70s was not 2019. And to be clear, I’m not talking about the abused kids.

Everyone seems to want to pin the blame on a relatively junior priest.

But my post was addressing the stupidity of the claim it responded to.

My advice to you is to check your facts:

<<<THE Australian Catholic Church has rejected the advice of its own Truth Justice and Healing Council and refused to support lifting the veil of secrecy preventing priests from reporting child sex allegations heard in the confessional to police.
Australian Catholic Bishops Conference president Archbishop Mark Coleridge strongly defended the church’s rejection of a child abuse royal commission recommendation that the seal of the confessional be breached, during a media conference on Friday after releasing the church’s response to the royal commission.>>>

That doesn’t conflict with what I said.

Check what you’re arguing with.

There are good and bad people in every institution.
I think it is naive that you would think that everyone always acts in good faith.
You would like to think that the hierarchy of the institution would act on good faith - otherwise what are you believing in? Fantasy?

He knew ridsdale was a freak and kept moving him to new diocese

He belongs in jail for that alone

Probably should be in jail for saying nothing, the other stuff is still up in the air.

And as I said the media circus could create one of two things ,one, he wins the appeal but may be guilty or he loses the appeal and he may be innocent? See no one can prove it beyond reasonable doubt , it is simply a sad fact that most of the media and the public were very vocal about his guilt , so it means the law was maybe not doing its job properly one way or the other , they should have been neutral and held in another state or country maybe!

Pell warrants special consideration?

Yes. Most accused don't have books published about them with information leaked from the cops who set up an investigation before there was a complainant shortly after Pell had exposed the now police commissioner for lying at a Parliamentary Inquiry.
Because complainants, who are going to testify against the highest profile collar wearer, not to mention the highest profile Church, are just going to walk forward into the light and be smashed....just like what happened in the past?

The authorities set something up where damaged people could come forward without fear and embarassment.
'
Your defence of this crap is horrific, to say the least.
